I have acquired two books focused on the subject of metal detecting, this is one. Like another reviewer said- it's not a bible, but it's pretty darned good. The second edition is from 2023, the most recent and current on the subject that I could find. The other book I bought, Metal Detecting, also available from Amazon, is from 2016, which is this book's first edition's date. Both are good books, some content varies, some very similar, but my takeaway is a reinforcement of essentials, with refinements in both, The Metal Detecting Bible is more valuable from a timeline perspective of information. I had the Minelab Vanquish 540 recommended to me, and NOW it's my machine. A far newer system than an old Garrett I used for work many years ago, so I felt like I needed some educational assistance to catch up with my new hobby. ... show more

After looking at a few different books, this was one of the ones we picked up to help guide us through this new adventure. This book is amazing! When it says it's your bible, it' speaks the truth. Whatever truth you believe in, this is it. It is a great book for seasoned hunters and newbies a like! This book does a great job of covering everything from gloves to contracts - really a great spectrum of advice for any one who enjoys metal detecting. I had no idea there was even such a thing as swing techniques until I picked up this book [ obviously I fall into the newb category ]. Amazing book! I've always been interested in metal detecting. People come up on good things and I've always had a dream of finding treasure, a la The Goonies. I grabbed this book in hopes I can make my dream a reality. I may not find a pirate ship, but I could possibly find a rare coin or two. I haven't started searching just yet, but I figured getting the right information would be a great start. First, you need the right equipment. Author Brandon Neice gives the lowdown on all the tips needed in . order to help towards success. Just a metal detector does not success make. Picks, shovels, clippers, scoops, a GPS, a backpack and gloves are only a small hit on the list of items needed. No need to go this large though. What you take with you is largely based on what kind of area you are scouting around. Neice covers every metal detecting situation. From getting the right equipment, how to listen, what to listen for, how to "sweep", how to dig, what to look for, where to look, how to negotiate, and how to preserve found goods. It truly is a go-to for all the tricks of the trade. After reading this book, I feel comfortable I can find some cool items as long as I stay patient. Now to buy a metal detector! ... show more

Books is invaluable for the beginner. I'm quite experienced and found a few nuggets in it but overall it is meant more for the person who is new to the hobby. Book would be a 5-star for them.

I bought this book because of Brandon's great youtube channel (DrTones24k), but for whatever stupid reason, I did not have high expectations for the book. I was pleasantly surprised. As someone who is new to the hobby, I must say that this is THE best book I have found on metal detecting. It is not incredibly in-depth, which I think is a good thing, and covers nearly every aspect of detecting. The book is fairly short and contains mostly just the nuggets of info that you really need to get started. It provides a solid jumping-off point for further web research of any of the many topics covered. Many metal detecting books that I have looked over previously were either out of date, a bit too in-depth for a beginner with no experience, or just a hasty compilation of crap geared towards making a quick buck. This book was none of those things and was cheaper than almost all of the others, too. I can't speak for experienced detectorists, but as a beginner I consider this book to be a 'must-have.' ... show more
