Description

Two people make a wager on who can find love first, not realizing what they should be betting on is each other, in this new romantic comedy by Lynn Painter, New York Times bestselling author of Mr. Wrong Number. Hallie Piper is turning over a new leaf. After belly-crawling out of a hotel room (hello, rock bottom), she decides it’s time to become a full-on adult. She gets a new apartment, a new haircut, and a new wardrobe, but when she logs onto the dating app that she has determined will find her new love, she sees none other than Jack, the guy whose room she snuck out of. After agreeing they are absolutely not interested in each other, Jack and Hallie realize they’re each other’s perfect wing-person in their searches for The One. They text each other about their dates, often scheduling them at the same restaurant so that if things don’t go well, the two of them can get tacos afterward. Spoiler: they get a lot of tacos together. Discouraged by the lack of prospects, Jack and Hallie make a wager to see who can find true love first, but when they agree to be fake dates for a weekend wedding, all bets are off. As they pretend to be a couple, lines become blurred and they both struggle to remember why the other was a bad idea to begin with. Read more

  • Excellent banter & a duo that makes you fall in love with love
Format: Kindle
📖 RomCom ⭐4.5/5 🌶️ 🌶️ (multiple open door scenes but nothing explicit) ➡ Hallie Piper is fun, ambitious and outspoken but a year after her long term boyfriend left her heartbroken, she still hasn't meandered back onto the dating scene. Feeling eternally lonely since his favorite uncle passed away and his little sister got engaged to his best friend, Jack finds himself rushing toward forever with the wrong woman. When a misunderstanding brings them together for a night that ends in Hallie sneaking out of Jack's hotel room braless the next morning, they both think they've seen the last of each other. To their surprise, they reconnect weeks after their run in through a dating app they've both committed to trying in hopes of finding the one. They strike up a bet and a friendship to see who can find lasting love first- but when their dates continue to end in disaster, they start to realize their friendship may be turning into something more. ◾ 🎯 What I loved: This was such an easy, fun read. It was a great friends to lovers trope without excessive pining- something I find most books with the trope have too much of. Both Hallie and Jack were smart, driven individuals on their own that brought out the best in each other. Their banter was top notch and I thought it was fun that their relationship was sandwiched between two weddings. The Love Wager wasn't emotionally stressful- it marketed as a fun RomCom and totally delivered. I didn't want to put the book down either which is always a good sign! 🙅♀️ What I didn't: I loved Hallie and Jack's story but wish we would have gotten a few more snippets from Liv and Colin at their wedding (if you read Mr. Wrong Number, this is the sequel)- I'm always looking for more from happy couples! ◾ Read if you love: *friends to lovers *fake dating *great banter ◾ See also: Accidentally Amy, My Favorite Half-Night Stand, Crazy Stupid Bromance ... show more

  • The cutest and most swoon worthy
Format: Kindle
The Love Wager Read if you like 🫶 👰♀️ Weddings 🙋♂️ He falls first 🤣 Laughing 🐻 Mike Ditka 💬 Funny texts What to expect 👀 One night stand to besties to fake dating to lovers. Dare I say this had all the best tropes? This was a swoony and hysterical read that followed Hallie and Jack’s wager on who can find someone and fall in love first. My thoughts 💭 -Surprise I loved it. Hallie was so funny and I want to be her bestie irl and Jack kept up with her goofiness and was such an endearing character -Just all around cuteness that’ll make you swoon and laugh and love love -The banter is top notch and had me cackling , if there’s one thing about Lynn painter it’s that she makes me lol -I hope they make this into a movie bc that end scene in the rain 🌧️ BYE it was so perfect -This is book 2 in a series of interconnected stand alones. The first book is Mr. Wrong Number. You don’t have to read them in order but as per usual I’d recommend it! - The only thing that threw me with this one was like…why weren’t they together? I know there wouldn’t be a book but we never got a real reason why they didn’t pursue each other in the first place 🤷🏻♀️ Overall, this was such a fun and cute read that I 100% will recommend to everyone 👏 . . . #lynnpainter #cutebooks #romancereader #romancebookrecommendations ... show more

  • I love this book!
Format: Kindle
It's the perfect mix of reality and cheesy classic tropes! You easily fall in love with all of the characters and it just feels like you are actively a part of the world she's created

  • It was cute!
Format: Kindle
It was a pretty quick, easy read and very lighthearted & fun. I expected there to be more witty banter, given the reviews I saw before I read it, but there were some funny parts for sure. Overall spice level of 2. The main issue I had with it is that I felt like the main characters couldn't decide how they felt about each other, and there was sort of a miscommunication trope which I find annoying. Essentially, they just didn't communicate properly and assumed they knew how the other person felt without really asking. The other thing I wasn't sure about was that I had trouble getting a feel for the MMC's personality. He seemed a little all over the place. But I did enjoy reading this book and found it immersive and fun! ... show more

  • A Bets a Bet!
Format: Kindle
If you read the first book and are wondering if you should give this one a go, I’d say yes. The style is very similar, this story is about Jack, brother of Olivia and best friend of Colin’s. A few factors have changed his way of thinking about being in a relationship and now he’s dating with a purpose, to find his HEA. Little did he know that his tiny bartender would be someone he wants to get to know better and spend more time with. Again like the first book, some things don’t quite add up or seemed out of character but the story was pretty good. It was fairly authentic and what I love most is the banter between Jack and Hallie. I can see them double dating with Livvie and Colin and having the best time with loads of laughs. I am enjoying making my way through this authors works. ... show more

  • Love, Laughter, and Tacos
Format: Kindle
After loving Mr. Wrong Number, I couldn’t wait to read The Love Wager, and it absolutely delivered. Hallie and Jack are hilarious, messy, and impossible not to root for, navigating a love wager, fake-dating, and plenty of tacos along the way. The banter is sharp, the romance is sweet, and the fake-dating-turned-real-feelings plot had me laughing and swooning nonstop. If you love witty, modern rom-coms with characters you’ll fall for, this one is a must-read. ... show more
