Description

To cook a meal for others—with thoughtfulness about the ingredients and care for the technique—can be the ultimate act of sharing. Gathering around the table opens people up, sparks meaningful connections, and builds community. This was one of the key principles that led Kimbal Musk to open The Kitchen restaurant twenty years ago, and it remains at the core of the restaurant’s mission as it has grown to have locations in four cities—Boulder, Denver, Chicago, and soon Austin. Now Musk shares more than 100 recipes for all of The Kitchen’s most beloved dishes so that you can make them at home. Here are signature creations such as the legendary Tomato Soup, Cast Iron Roasted Chicken, and Sticky Toffee Pudding, as well as more recent favorites like Crispy Cauliflower Korma, Grilled Ranch Steak with Romesco and Catalan Spinach, and Tahini Mousse Cake. The Kitchen is an American bistro serving seasonal shared plates with many global influences. Peruvian chiles pop up often, homemade naan serves as a base for shareable dishes, and miso gives a lift to several veggies. Reflecting the restaurant’s history as a pioneer of the farm-to-table movement, many of the recipes include variations according to the season. In fact, the book empowers the home cook to feel free to adapt at every turn. An ample chapter on sauces and toppings provides an arsenal of flavor boosters to punch up all of your cooking, and many dishes have components that you can mix and match with others throughout the book. There are plenty of quick and easy recipes that are sure to become regulars in your weeknight rotation, as well as some spectacular showstoppers to serve at your next party. As a bonus, the majority of the recipes link out to videos that show you how to accomplish key kitchen hacks. With all these practical features, this book is bound to become a trusted companion on the kitchen shelf to turn to time and again—as well as one that will inspire you to cook for your community. • Beautiful, unique, helpful cookbook!
Haven’t seen a cookbook like this! It’s put together differently than most. The display in this book is delectable! Kimbal not only includes pics with a variety of his favorite and best drinks, appetizers, meals, and desserts from his years of success in the industry, but there are some follow along guides in the book to help walk you through the process. Sharing passion for cooking and helping bring family, friends, and community together at the table is wonderful. The term “made with love” is so underrated. A homemade meal, or fresh farm-to-table experience, is nourishing to more than just the body. It is a wonderful way for humanity to bond, heal, share, and grow together. This cookbook rocks! Thank you, Kimbal Musk! ... show more

  • Wholesome tasty food with deep intention evident. Fun to get to know Kimbal's passion.
I have been a foodie my entire life and nourishment has always been a center of my medical practice. I grew up on a farm, raised a lot of food, and I read cookbooks for fun. Yes, I love food and the depth of connection it has with the land and the people who farm the land. In "The Kitchen Cookbook" I found a connection to Kimbal as well as his passion for food, eating, the land and all the love that comes from the Kitchen. To feed people is a sacred act - and this cookbook has that feel. The feel that his expression of being human- of growing, harvesting, preparing, serving, and eating - is sacred in all of it's domains. The recipes I tested were yummy - a bit more complex than I usually construct - but the complexity paid off. Thanks for a yummy gift to my palate and mind. ... show more

  • Recipes from The Kitchen restaurant
Great stories about The Kitchen restaurant and the people who work there. Beautiful coffee-table book with color photos throughout. Kimbal has a companion YouTube site he was just launching when the book was released of him cooking the recipes. Roast chicken is still my favorite.

  • Beautiful photography, delicious + practical recipes, and inspired storytelling
Kimbal Musk's book is not just a recipe collection; it's an inspiration to bring people together through food. It extends the warm, communal spirit of his restaurant, The Kitchen, into your home. The book features 100+ recipes, with gorgeous photography, and helpful instructions (including some video links). The emphasis on quick, everyday meals alongside special occasion dishes makes this book versatile for most cooks. If you've visited the Kitchen, you know that their vegetables are a standout. Highly recommend those recipes. Overall the book is designed to make cooking accessible and enjoyable, urging you to share your creations with your family and community. ... show more

  • The Kitchen is now part of my kitchen
[Photo credits- his smile, his Naan Tomato Tartine and the rest are from my kitchen collection ] It’s Kimbal’s style that draws you in. All your senses are engaged with this book. His writing, sense of gratitude, and openness in sharing stories and Kitchen “secrets” like the Szechuan chili crisp makes the reader/cook feel (I know this is cliche) like he’s a friend. You’ll love how he met his co-founder, Hugo. Having lived in Maine, I would have been much more likely to eat Lobster Rolls (p. 148) had they been Kimbalized (my word, you can use it). Why go to France when the most perfect sounding Cassoulet’s (p. 191) been painstakingly divided into 4 separate sections of preparation & cooking, making following each step more manageable. Although I know where to buy beautiful duck legs, I must track down the juniper berries(can I use them from our shrubs?) as well as star anise pods. Thank you for adding just a hint of red pepper flakes. And for a gal who seldom indulges in a dessert, I am ALL IN to make the Chèvre Cheesecake with Marconi Almond Crust (p.269)…it’s practically health food. I shan’t give any more away. Buy the book. It’s a good read even if you don’t cook but dream of delicious food. ... show more

  • Great recipes and well written
The guy is Elon Musk’s brother. He’s very wealthy so only cooks for the love of cooking food, this book reflects his love of food. The book is a joy to read. No pretensions, just a guy who wants to cook great meals for his loved ones.

  • Easy to follow recipes and ideas to include in ones repertoire of favorite dishes.
Like most cooks,I have an extensive cookbook library. I am happy to include this book because the recipes are new, they are fresh and seem to compliment dishes from a variety of ethnicities. I look forward to visiting one of the restaurants already familiar with their offerings prepared by welcoming professionals. ... show more

  • Diet and healthy eating habits with natural ingredients
I like using a couple of inspirations in my cooking from this book while only 20-30 pages read, adds potent flavor when torn from book and added to dish. The paper can be cut into strips of noodles, used as a wrap, thickener, salad leaflets , also just as it is after a page flip. The message of fresh ingredients is of high value to health and am thankfully righted onto path of wellness of sustenance. Excited for the following creations I have yet to personally discover to further experience in quality cooking ideas. Love the jovial photos. ... show more
