Description

Creating homes that bring families together, where they can celebrate life’s joys.Interior designer Ashley Gilbreath’s fresh approach to Southern decorating is guided by her respect for family and tradition with an eye on practicality and warmheartedness. Her first book reveals the breadth of her casually elegant style. Whether it’s in town, on the water, or in the countryside, each home exhibits thoughtful planning and attention to detail in harmony with the client’s vision.Gilbreath gives readers insight into her design process, striking a balance between functionality, comfort, and beauty. From using a client’s favorite color as a unifying thread throughout, to offering guidance on designing a forever home that can mature with the family over time, every space is influenced by her passion for gracious everyday living. Inviting readers into her family beach home, Ashley explores the impact of small architectural updates, and the use of thoughtful injection of color and pattern to achieve the perfect mix. Ashley’s signature design strategies are distinguishable in each home. She artfully mixes new and old pieces and utilizes favorite custom treatments to create a welcoming spirit grounded in tradition.Bringing family together is the reason Gilbreath designs. “Balancing form and function with memory and emotion, home is a place for people to embrace family and celebrate life’s joys,” she says. The Joy of Home gives readers insight and inspiration to create their own joyful home.Home locations:Auburn, AlabamaLake Martin in AlabamaMobile, AlabamaWatersound Beach, FloridaAlpharetta, GeorgiaColumbus, GeorgiaBaton Rouge, LouisianaMurfreesboro, Tennessee Read more

  • What makes this coffee table book special
Format: Hardcover
The media could not be loaded. TLDR: I love this book! It’s beautiful as a coffee table book and the content is well curated too. My detailed thoughts: If you’re looking for a coffee table book that actually feels inviting (and not just something you dust off once a year), The Joy of Home by Ashley Gilbreath is honestly such a good pick. I just got it, and I’ve already flipped through it a dozen times. It’s big and pretty-definitely something you’d notice if you walked into someone’s living room-but it’s also just really warm and genuine. What I love most is how personal it feels. Ashley shares stories from her own life, like little memories and lessons she’s picked up over the years. There’s this one about her old rolltop desk that made me think about my own family’s old furniture, and another about her dogs that’s just sweet and relatable. It’s not just about decorating or making your house look perfect. It’s more about why home matters and the small things that make it special. There are also recipes scattered throughout, which I didn’t expect, and they’re actually from her friends. It’s a nice touch and makes the whole book feel more like a community thing, not just one person’s story. Plus, there are little bits of wisdom and even some scripture, but it never feels preachy. It’s more like gentle reminders to slow down and appreciate what you have. Visually, it’s beautiful. The photos are lovely and there’s enough variety that you don’t get bored flipping through. I could see this being a great gift for anyone who loves home stuff, or even for yourself if you just want something cozy and inspiring to look at. Overall, I’d say The Joy of Home is perfect if you want something that feels real and comforting, not just another book about how to arrange your throw pillows. It’s like having a chat with a friend who really gets why home matters. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Personal and beautiful
Format: Hardcover
I really loved how the designer incorporated stories of her family into each project, making it a personal story while also tieing it to the project itself. The design itself is also beautiful and timeless. Overall a quick read, with three double-spaced, large text pages in each of the 9 projects, and additional captions for each photo. But yet there was a lot said in the short writings, and I felt a peaceful quiteness after reading it. ... show more

  • Not my favorite 🫤
Format: Hardcover
I am a huge fan of the interior design of folks like James Farmer, Mark Sikes, Charles Faudree, Bunny Williams, and Katie Ridder: I love traditional decorating with twists and I adore color, pattern (fabrics and wallpapers), passementerie, collections, gallery/salon walls. The decor here is certainly beautiful and serene, but it was just a little safe and flat for me and came across as somehow impersonal. The photos did little to invite me in for detailed perusing. I enjoyed much of what Gilbreath wrote and I admire her career, skill, and achievements, but I'm sorry to say that this book won't go on my favorites list. ... show more
