  • Renewed my 13.5 yr old dog!
Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 4 lb (Pack of 1)
I was looking for a food that didn't have crap in it - no preservatives, misc. animal meals, or other questionable/unidentifiable ingredients. My older dog was having some issues with his liver, and his digestion was poor. I couldn't find a kibble that fit our needs, and I really can't afford to feed raw or make my own dog food from scratch. Then I read about how kibble is typically processed, and was even more worried about what to feed my dog. I came across great reviews for Honest Kitchen and love that this is human grade dog food. Easy to store and prepare - just add water. Not only does my dog love it, but within a week he was looking and acting like a new dog! I transitioned him from boiled chicken + plain white rice or potato (which he still with digestive issues on) to the Honest Kitchen whole-grain turkey over that week. His digestive issues have ceased! (he's also on Denamarin for large dogs, started at the same time) I am sure the liver support supplement helped, but the diet change is making a huge difference! He loves this food, and his energy level and playfulness have increased as well. I know I won't have him forever, but for as long as he's still with me, this food is worth the money for how happy and healthy and vibrant he's become again. Just like with people - you are what you eat. You eat crap, you'll feel like crap. Eat healthy food, your body will respond in kind. Thank you, Honest Kitchen - the first dog food to have the FDA's stamp of approval for 'human grade' ingredients! ... show more

  • It's healthy
Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 4 lb (Pack of 1)
My dog loves every Honest Kitchen I've fed her. She itches a lot so I tried the grain free turkey before trying this whole grain turkey. She's also had the fish. I've only had her since October and it's now July. I think she may be itching more eating the whole grain turkey than the grain free one, but I know she also needs variety. Maybe the itching is worse because it's summer. I'm determined not to put her on a steroid medication. So next time, I'll most likely go back to the dehydrated fish. She is a shelter dog so I know nothing about her background except that I can see she has been licking the tops of her back feet for sometime. So far, none of the Honest Kitchen dehydrated foods have given her any relief. Maybe her problem isn't food related. She also gets liquid quercetin and sometimes licorice for itching. I chose the Honest Kitchen dehydrated foods because there seem to be fewer recalls on them than any other food. She is healthy and her skin is shiny. I do believe it is honestly a good food. And not a kibble! ... show more

  • Great dog food
I've been using Honest Kitchen off and on for awhile, and both my dog and I love it. Not that I eat it, but it does smell good even for a human... LOL My dog can't open her mouth currently due to medical problems, and this is exactly perfect for her - she can eat it by herself since it has the consistency of oatmeal. On the health side of things, I had spent a huge amount of time analyzing various dog foods available out there, and this really is one of the best in my opinion. The company provides a good choice of foods for various needs the dogs may have, the ingredients are wholesome, and the nutrient distribution is very good - it really is the next best thing to cooking well-planned fresh food for your dog (and much better if the home-cooked diet is not well-planned with appropriate nutrition in mind) - but a lot easier to prepare. What I also find very useful for my particular dog is that the volume of hydrated food is higher than the equivalent amount of good dry kibble due to water content. My dog is a real foodie - she is constantly hungry, and keeping her in proper weight has always been a challenge. This food is just more filling for her. The price is high for this product, and higher for their other products, but even for someone like me (I'm dirt poor) it's very worth it. I highly recommend it ... show more

  • Better than most foods, however there are some things that pet owners should know
Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 4 lb (Pack of 1)
My dogs eat this okay; they eat it better than either Merrick or Wellness brand wet food and I believe the ingredients are superior. They aren't very excited about it because it's basically rehydrated gruel, though! It has a very strong odor--almost like gravy and cut grass--and while they seemed excited when I was preparing it, they quickly looked at it with disappointment afterwards. So there's that. I was very surprised at the texture. It's almost a fine powder that rehydrates into a mush. I was expecting something freeze dried for some reason; this is ground up like a powder. This dog food also has a lot of stuff in it that honestly isn't all that necessary. All of the vegetables and grains are useless to most dogs, especially primitive breed dogs. All of that would be fine if it were not for the price. For the price of this recipe you could put your dog on a much better diet. VERDICT: better than most prepared dog foods, but fresh meat and vegetables will actually be cheaper and healthier so it's really only for convenience. Dogs aren't really a fan. ... show more

  • If your dog is allergic to chicken like mine do not buy the turkey- get the beef instead
Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 7 Pound (Pack of 1)
I had been buying this product for over a year but now they changed the recipe. My dog is highly allergic to chicken and we have had no problem for over a year giving this to her for breakfast, I would change it up with the Turkey one and Beef. She can eat turkey and does a different turkey dogfood for dinner and no problem. However recently we had ordered this and she first started turning her nose up to it then we started hearing her stomach very loudly grumbling. These are the symptoms she has with Chicken. It had been over 2 years since I had heard her do this. After several mornings of her doing this I knew it was a Chicken reaction and I had just opened a new box of the turkey. I ordred the beef version and presto no more upset stomach and she ate it right up. I am 95% sure that they are now adding Chicken to the recipe in this dogfood that says Turkey- and I know by law they do not have to put it on the label. ... show more

Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 4 lb (Pack of 1)
My dog can only eat turkey, she’s allergic to other meats. But this food upset her tummy and she’s had diarrhea for a few days now :( I only got it because her Farmers Dog turkey flavor ran out and her next order wouldn’t arrive for a few days. So I had to fill the gap. But my pups tummy is upset poor girl. ... show more

  • Human grade goodness. Easy to prep and store.
Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 4 lb (Pack of 1)
My dog is really liking this food, and so am I. It's like a doggy oatmeal - mix it with a bit of water, and within about 2 minutes it thickens up. After it hydrates I top it with dry food of the same brand - my pup prefers texture variety. The ingredients look so much better than some of the popular brands out there; no "chicken meal." It has real meat, oats, peas and other good stuff. And it's human grade! (It doesn't smell like cat food.) I appreciate that it doesn't need to be refrigerated or frozen and thawed. Easy. ... show more
