    • Helps Laryngeal Paralysis
If your dog has LP, this may be a life extensor for him or her. I got this because my poor Newfoundland has LP and I’m being careful not to irritate anything along the way to her stomach, like hard, scratchy kibble. I’m also giving her Benadryl which is helping a lot with the inflammation …and whole vanilla yogurt for breakfast because while this food fills her up, she’s hungry again a few hours later - kinda like a particular ethnic food. Recently, she stopped drinking water - it’s not uncommon for old dogs, according to my Google search results. Another benefit of this food is that she gets a sufficient amount of water because I can add extra to it, which I do. The only thing my dog doesn’t like about it is the cranberries - she refuses to eat those, so they’re left in the bowl. My dog wasn’t predicted to make it past 6 years with her heart condition and then adding LP to the mix. I’m proud to report that she’s 12 years old, blind as a bat, but happy as a lark! I believe Honest Kitchen has helped keep her kicking by providing a nutritionally complete food that’s easy to swallow. For the record, she prefers the grain free version, but I think it’s a little rich for her because she - how do I put this to relay the severity of the smell? She farts like she’s eaten rotten meat. It’s vile! So! My solution has been to give her half of the grain free and half of the grain one, mixed together with warm water. No more room clearing aromas coming from her with this concoction. Got my neighbor’s poodle on this too - poor oral health Highly recommend! ... show more

    • Gentle recipe, high quality food
I switched to this brand a few years ago. My elderly dog had come to a point where he struggled to keep store bought food down. I was making food by scratch, which was a pain and I worried about micro-nutrients. Then I visited a friend who used this food and I gave it a try. My old man loved it and no stomach issues. I switched him over successfully, and my young dog. The old man passed peacefully of old age, healthy and happy. The young dog is now 4 years old and doing great! I use only full grain formulas, since dogs can have heart issues with grain free foods (check UC Davis publications for articles), though Honest Kitchen does test all food for taurine, an important micro-nutrient for dog health. Oddly, my younger dog can’t eat the kibble version. She loves it but gets too loose for some reason. This one needs mixing, but it’s way better than making food from scratch and a minor issue to ensure my dog gets high-quality, throughly tested food. ... show more

    • DEADLY FOR SOME DOGS! Feed at your own peril.
We ordered Honest Kitchen’s Dehydrated Whole Grain Beef Dog Food, 7 lb Box. I figured that was normal. At the end of our three day long transition to this new food our dog became incredibly sick. She was vomiting and had diarrhea and became so lethargic that she could barely move or stay awake. After spending $1200 over the course of four days at the vet we learn that she has acute pancreatitis and she is put on meds and chicken and rice. When we began to transition her back to the Honest Kitchen food and immediately her reaction was so bad we needed an emergency vet appointment ($900) while I cried my eyes out, afraid my baby might die. They accused the food. Whatever is in this recipe in not small dog friendly. The following day after we took her off that food she is back to normal since. READ THE ONE STAR REVIEWS!! There are a ton about dogs getting sick, vomiting, lethargy, and even DEATH. I wish I had done more digging before this purchase; it almost cost our dog her life. ... show more

    • Healthy food! Truly!
I think all dogs should be eating this food. I love that it’s human grade food. I feel that a healthy pet starts with healthy food! My dog has been on this food for 3 years and it has totally helped his pancreatic issues! Yippee to Honest Kitchen food!

My pit has bad allergies and ive been trying to narrow down exactly what hes allergic to and this has alot of grains so im guessing grains bc his mouth and feet broke out . Just got the grain free base mix only so well try that .Hoping its the answer! But hes good with the beef only mix . Tried something else bc my other lil dog is very picky and she wont even touch it because of how it smells ... show more
