  • Creative Mythology Romantasy
Format: Kindle
This is the most creative/outlandish/atypical reinterpretation of mythological gods into romantasy. Jasmine, what were you on when you came up with us? This book was even better than the first. 4 stars / 3 spice (slow burn but also not) Sarcasm, wit, humor, and banter. FMC has a hilarious inner monologue going on . The familials are entertaining. Plot twist surprises. Action. Alexis’ character ARC is so cool. Creative AF plot. Good world building. MMCs get their unhinged bs together for her. It’s an all around good time. You will be entertained! 4 and not 5 stars bc I got a bit bored like 60% in - which happened in the first book for me too. Also v disappointed we didn’t get any in depth Helen or Charlie action - they were relegated to the benches in this book. not coool. ... show more

  • Looking forward to the next book!
Format: Kindle
I always love Jasmine Mas’ world creation and relatable characters. I loved the first book and was frothing at the mouth all year waiting for the next installment! I will admit, however, that this book left me a bit wanting. I read it a few weeks ago so forgive me if my memory isn’t perfect. Spoilers ahead: . . . At one point when Alexis’ clothes get ripped off so they can mark her skin or whatever, Augustus’s POV says he hears a male siren yelling for her to ride his face. It stuck out to me, because nobody except Alexis can hear sirens, right? I figured it might be her power spreading to him, but that’s never really mentioned or explored further in the story. In fact, her being able to speak to the Sirens isn’t explored much IMO. Why go into the fact that Sirens are essentially treated like pleasure sl*ves because no one can understand them even though they’re just as capable of higher-level reasoning and thoughts just like humans… and then not radicalize anyone? She uses her siren friend to further her agenda against Zeus, but that’s like the only ‘use’ of her being able to speak with them. The Siren treatment is giving ‘sl*very’ yet that itty bitty little issue (sarcasm) was not resolved by the end of the book, which I was expecting for some reason. Or for the wheels to be in motion for that, at least. Another thing. Alexis is this math prodigy, but I felt like it was added to make her quirky/unlike Mas’ other protagonists which admittedly have similar (fun and likable, but similar) personalities. But I wish Alexis used it at any point (other than like math class lol) to set her apart in the life threatening challenges. Or if she at least finally solved that crazy equation she speaks about for the two books! Then maybe showed Augustus or idk someone smart enough to recognize how crazy cool that is. Next point: I understand why Kharon and Augustus were furious with Achilles for abandoning Alexis, THEY’D BE THE SAME WAY?? If the roles were reversed and Alexis was at risk of dying, Kharon and/or Augustus (if they were weakened/muzzled and couldn’t have quickly saved everyone) would have left Patro or Achilles behind to save Alexis too?? Why is it ok for them to be unheroic and feral and place Alexis above all else, but Achilles was being vilified by the very men who should somewhat understand that compulsion? Like he was the scum of the earth for not being able to resist saving his soulmate? Especially when Patro’s POV said he liked Alexis since she’s like the only one who understands their relationship. But she was just base-level accepting, IMO. Not overly supportive or even friendly, just not blatantly homophobic lol. Which is maybe a big deal! But I didn’t see every other character being super homophobic either? Maybe it was an undercurrent I missed. I just feel like the bar is on the floor for ‘understanding’ them when she just didn’t argue about their love. She had her chance right there to prove she really understood them, to explain that she forgave (or at least understood) him because she never *expected* him to save her over his literal other half, but that precise explanation was never quite acknowledged aloud/verbally which was frustrating to read. Her healing powers!! I was waiting for her to heal Patro’s Achilles tendon but it never happened, which was a shame. I wondered if she would use her powers to heal any of Kharon’s wounds, but I could understand that being kind of disrespectful for all he’s fought through. But also I would understand them blatantly not respecting the stupid god challenges lol and healing him anyway. Also?? The implied god who helped them in the trailer park… who was that? And why? Does it have anything to do with Charlie having gold eyes and being dropped off by Faith? I’ve been waiting for Charlie to get some screen time where they reveal he’s not ‘just’ human. Idk it just seemed like a lot of threads began but not all of them were nicely weaved in at the end. There’s potential if the third book is also about Alexis, but I’m getting the vibe it’s going to be about Medusa, Patro, and Achilles. Which I’ll admit I’m very excited to read! It will be fun to read about a character with some fighting ability from the get-go. But it might be weird to read about Alexis freeing the Sirens from someone else’s POV, for example. Idk. I’m looking forward to the book and know it will be amazing! This particular installment just didn’t quite leave me as satisfied as I was hoping. ... show more

  • Dark romantasy that I can't put down
Format: Hardcover
My daughter read Bonds of Hercules first and would not stop talking about it—so obviously I had to know why. Now I get it. This book is intense in the best way. Dark, spicy, emotionally charged, and very much enemies to lovers done right. The tension is constant, the chemistry is off the charts, and the story doesn’t play it safe. It leans into the darkness without feeling messy or gratuitous. The deluxe edition is beautiful, but what really stands out is how gripping the story is. Once it gets going, it’s hard to put down. This is not a light, cozy read—it’s dramatic, immersive, and addictive. If you like dark romantasy with strong characters, high tension, and unapologetic spice, this one absolutely delivers. No wonder my daughter was hooked. ... show more

  • a time was had!!
Format: Kindle
Listen, was I hoping Alexis wouldn’t have to choose and she’d get all four delicious men to herself? Yes. BUT, I think the next installment of this story is going to be SO good and I’m ready to see Medusa vs the mentors until the tension snaps! Now, onto Alexis and her men. First, yum! Second, I really loved the story! I thought at times the pacing felt a bit rushed but overall I enjoyed the book! I love the possessive MMC trope and this book delivered that in SPADES. I’m a big Jasmine Mas fan and this hit just how I wanted it to. ... show more

  • please be more coming
Format: Kindle
When I finished the first book, I knew I had to immediately start on the second book! The two combined, weave a great story with a twist about the past. The main characters have both depth and are well developed. I also love the humor and the spice and as my headlight says, hope there’s more to come. ... show more

  • Good Story
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed Blood of Hercules due to the banter, the hysterical inner monologue and the slow burn/stalking by Team Professors. I enjoyed Bonds of Hercules but not as much. What I enjoyed: 1. Slow burn--enjoyed that the book was about the characters/plot and did not devolve into multiple and overly long s3x scenes as some romantasys tend to do. Instead there seemed to be the right amount of spice and in places that moved the story along. 2. Loved the growth of Alexis and how her powers slowly evolved. 3. The relationship between Alexis and Nyx 4. The surprise introduction of a new character 5. The love interests that Alexis had in the end What didn't work so well for me: 1. There seemed to be inconsistencies in the story, such as other people understanding the Sirens' language and there was one scene which seemed to suggest that Charlie was still not talking and was signing with Alexis (which didn't make sense when their signing ability was supposedly a surprise to Archilles). 2. The 4 MMC seemed to be lost at times, not as scary/strong and, well, maybe even a bit pathetic at times. 3. The different POVs were not unique enough and seemed like they were all the same voice, especially the two female POVs. All in all, I enjoy Jasmine Mas' books and will keep reading them. Hoping the next book in this series goes back to the magical qualities of the first book. ... show more
