  • Connects to App & Apple Health
This is great. Very small / the entire kit is the size of a can of soda. It links to the app on my phone and seamlessly into my Apple Health account. It has a port to recharge it so it won’t just die and have to be tossed. Looks expensive but it a very good value for what it is. It comes with lancets and test strips (20 & 20 I believe.) The brand is easily available at any pharmacy so the test strips should be easy to find when out. I am pre-diabetic with a cousin and brother 4 years older than me that are on insulin. This monitor is going to help me keep a check on my glucose to try and push off diabetes as many months / years as I can. ... show more

  • More accurate than other meters
I got a freestyle lite meter from insurance. I was getting inconsistent readings. I was assuming readings were accurate. Unfortunately industry standard there is a 15% acceptable deviation for all meters 95% of the time. 20% deviation 99% of the time. Meaning 1% are totally off. If you get a totally unexpected result retake. So before and after experiments are inconsistent. On the freestyle one day I took three readings in a row. Got 179 155 and 168. So I bought a contour next and did examples on the same blood sample. In the morning fasting they were off by 20 points. Freestyle lite meter got 126 first sample and 132 second sample contour got 147 same first sample and and 152 same second sample. Then after breakfast they both got 174 on same sample. After exercise 2 hours later I got 117 from freestyle and 115 from contour on same blood same. Now all these reading are within the 15% deviation. Why the difference in morning is totally all over the place but later reading are all close between meters, I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out which meter is more accurate. But with acceptable deviation of 15% if your actual blood glucose is 160 then acceptable 15% deviation means reading will be between 136 and 184. So don't believe readings are exact. This is industry acceptable range for all meters on the market. I bought the contour on my own not using insurance because they tout 8.1% deviation 95% of the time. Plus contour test strips cost less than the freestyle light test strips. Or about the same using insurance for freestyle and buying contour on my own with Amazon. I'm going to see if insurance will cover contour strips cheaper than Amazon. But my insurance might not allow contour? I just got the contour yesterday so I still have some experimenting to do. But it is much more consistent between consecutive readings than freestyle. ... show more

  • Great Glucose Meter Is Nearly Perfect, Lancer Is A Toy and Software Is A Waste !!!
The Size, Shape, Weight, Readout, Lighting, Color Signals and Bluetooth of the "Next One" are all virtually Perfect! But before you run off to buy one, be aware that the Lancing Device seems poorly designed & constructed plus still uses the generic square shaft lancets that can be painful and leave scars or bruises for quite some time on diabetic skin. (After trying Accu-Check's "FastClix" with cartridge Loaded, precisely guided, ultra-thin and super-sharp lancets, anything less is medieval torture by comparison.) A second failure as far as I am concerned is the very poorly designed and written Software Program that consumes a ton of extra, wasted time and meticulous busywork effort to enter a few very simple, basic numbers by endlessly dialing simulated digital wheels rather than just pressing a few Number Keys and Enter. After all the labor and time spent, the reward is a "chart" that lacks any informative emphasis of important figures or trends that the diabetes patient (and doctor) would benefit from gaining their attention. What a waste of a terrific glucometer design by pairing it with third rate accessories and software !!! ... show more

  • more consistent than other meters I've tried
My husband likes to take his fasting blood sugar in the morning to augment the A1C results he gets with his doctor. It gives him a sense of which foods elevate his blood sugar more than others. He was using a different meter before and became frustrated with the variability of the results. It was time try another system. This system is much more consistent than the previous ones. Only occasionally, does it give a reading that seems to be inaccurate and require a second test. And in those cases, the second reading is usually close to the first. On top of that, it's easier to use. And the test strips are reasonably priced. All in all, a step in the right direction for him. ... show more
