  • Great, Informative & Helpful Book Great, Informative & Helpful Book
My husband & I are getting ready to purchase our 1st travel trailer and although we had been researching RV's all over the Internet, we wanted to read up a little bit on good quality RV information before we go to make our first purchase. We found this 315 page book to be very informative on both the motorized RV's and towable trailers. The authors Brent & April have a good sense of humor which makes the reading fun. Love all the similes throughout the book. The book layout makes for easy reading and we like the extras containing definitions, tips, warnings and miscellaneous information. I have been studying and making notes and highlighting the important facts and its been a fun experience. We look forward to our new commitment and am glad we found this book beforehand. All the good reviews we read on this book are true, it really is an excellent read. ... show more

  • Good Guide with few Cons
I try to write helpful reviews rather than just saying I like or dislike it, I try to give some information lacking in the description of the item. In this case, the book is almost excellent. It contains a few chapters on how to purchase the right RV, which I don't understand being in a book with guidance on RVing. Should not, 'How to buy an RV' be a separate book? Removing this information would reduce the price (I would hope) of the book and still fulfill the title's promise. I mean, I've already got the RV and really don't want to review all the mistakes I've made in that project! The rest of the book has some very good tips and information. Now that I've been out camping with my RV twice, I find that the book contains just a couple of mistakes, but none of them are of great significance and aren't worth condemning the book. Just be sure to get the latest edition. Worth noting is one missing bit of info (or maybe I just didn't see it). That is, camping in State Parks. Some State Parks and other 'lower-end' camping sites do offer water, but not the 'standard' garden hose connection. In anticipation of this, the RVer wants to obtain and have on hand the http://www.amazon.com/Camco-22484-Water-Bandit/dp/B000EDOSKG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390188359&sr=8-1&keywords=water+thief (Water Bandit). Since this device won't hold pressure, the RVer will want to have one or more of those screw clamps to screw down on the connection. Some 'water sources' are the kind you'd attach a hose to (not threaded -- much like you might find in a chemistry lab). You'll need the Water Bandit for this connection, and a clamp to hold it to the connection to handle the pressure. The book offers some useful outline lists/charts as well as chapter summaries. If you are new to RVing and don't have anyone to guide you into this adventure, you'll want to have this book well read before embarking on your first outing. Good camping! ... show more

  • If you are new to RVing, BUY THIS BOOK!
Format: Kindle
Lots of incredibly useful information. If you don't know what a black water tank is, or that YOU need a hose to empty it and that you probably want a support for that hose so it continuously slopes down to the sewer connection ... or if you don't know that you should be able to plug in to normal outlets, or 30A, or 50A outlets - you will doubtless need adapters for 2 of the three, the adapters are called "dog bones" - then you need this book. If you don't know about 12V, 120V and Liquid Propane use in your RV (all three by the refrigerator, depending on which is available) then you definitely need this book. If you are planning to BUY an RV then order this book immediately and read it! It literally could save you tens of thousands of dollars. My wife wanted to rent an RV. After reading this book, and asking her to read it, she understood that there is work to do each time you arrive at or leave a connection site (an RV park). This book gives names of web sites where you can arrange to rent an RV. We might still do it, but now we know what we're getting in to. ... show more

  • For Motor Home Owners Owners Mainly
Format: Paperback
I was hoping this book would be helpful for all recreational vehicle owners, including fifth wheelers like myself, but was disappointed to find that this book is geared primarily towards the motor home owners. If you have a motor home it does look like this book would be very thorough and complete, but if you're more interested in trailering or fifth wheeling I would not recommend this book for you. ... show more

  • Great book for new RV owners.
This was the best resource for a new RV owner. Filled with cheesy one-liners, the book is great for a number of different things. First off, you don’t have to read it all for it to make sense. It has a huge section on all the different types and how to buy one. Unfortunately, I had already purchased one before I found this book. The best part of the book for my wife and I was the checklists for the first time you use it (or everytime). We spent a good deal of time collecting the stuff we needed, and once on the road, there were very few things that we found ourselves needing. The first trip was intimidating, and having the book around was awesome, because stuff broke, and I was able to get my head around it and move on down the road. I also think this book would have something to offer a veteran RVer. Our RV was used, and I came to find out that the black tank had not been taken care of very well. But our suggested regimen of using the tank conditioner started releasing the old solids. The worst part of RVing, but the book got us through it with a good understanding of the system! ... show more

  • Great resource for RV Newbies
Format: Paperback
I read everything I could get my hands on about RVs before we purchased one, and this book has become my "go to" resource for all things RV-ing. It explains mechanics, fluidics, and electronics in ways that helped us understand how to select and maintain our RV. A must-read for those considering a purchase of an RV of any class as it covers all the styles and provides questions to help you analyze your needs, tastes and preferences. We re-read sections any time we have questions about our RV, and even take it with us on the road. ... show more

  • Useful overview...but not for Kindle
Format: Paperback
A clearly written overview on the selection and care of all types of RV's. This is not intended to be a detailed how-to manual, but rather an introduction to RVing for folks trying to decide if that's the right choice for them. A survey course, not a graduate seminar. And it succeeds quite well at its chosen mission, and as the new owner of an old Toyota motorhome, it was a useful read. The pointers on safety equipment are good, and there is a nice list of links and apps in the back. My only gripe is with the formatting of the Kindle edition. Sidebar info was rarely complete, and sometimes the placement of the sidebars caused gaps in the main text. Kindle is good for straight text, but the medium still has problems dealing with complex page layouts. ... show more

  • Great Teaching Tool!
I have only been RVing for 2 seasons (novice) (WNY summers are short). You can count my trips on 1 hand!. READ this book before YOU BUY an RV. It will help you in the process. A lot of Great points. The 1 recommendation I will make is read the chapter on "picking the right RV for you and your family. I now have "buyers remorse" because I purchased too small of a travel trailer for the family. If I decide to trade up, it will cost me at least $3000 if not more. After knowing this, I was about to sign on the "dotted line" to upgrade and I read a segment that said "Ok, you did your research on the RV you want, now what about the dealer?". I never, thought to check out the RV dealership. I was shocked to find out they had a D- rating in BBB. Most complaints on customer service or lack of service to the used RV's sold. This book put me in the right direction, as I now feel more comfortable in future endeavors. I decided to stick with my travel trailer for the time being. ... show more
