Description

The Beekeeper’s Bible is as much an ultimate guide to the practical essentials of beekeeping as it is a beautiful almanac to be read from cover to cover, from ecologist Richard A. Jones and writer Sharon Sweeney-Lynch. Part history book, part handbook, and part cookbook, this illustrated tome covers every facet of the ancient hobby of beekeeping, from how to manage hives safely to harvesting one’s own honey, and ideas for how to use honey and beeswax. Detailed instructions for making candles, furniture polish, beauty products, and nearly 100 honey-themed recipes are included. Lushly illustrated with how- to photography and unique etchings, any backyard enthusiast or gardener can confidently dive into beekeeping with this book in hand (or daydream about harvesting their own honey while relaxing in the comfort of an armchair). “A glorious invitation into the depths of the honeybee hive.” —Chicago Tribune “Elegant, information-packed.” —Better Homes & Gardens’ Country Gardens “Jones and Sweeney-Lynch explain the science and society of bees in clear, accessible language. And the recipes are admirably useful: honey scones, honey soap, honey hangover cures.” —New York Times Read more

  • Great book.
Read it in 2 days cover to cover. I wasn’t as interested in the religious and ancient info about bees. But it had a lot of good stuff for beekeeping and recipes for honey. Well made, good images, lots of content. Well worth the money for any beekeeper or person just interested in bees.

  • Bought for a brand new beekeeper
This was purchased as a gift for a young soon to be beekeeper. So far she has impressed me with the information she has been able to consume.

  • A Nice, Accessible Read
I knew nothing about beekeeping before getting this book. I thought I would one day get a few hives, and this book served as a great introduction to beekeeping, giving me an overview of the history of beekeeping, bees themselves, and beekeeping. I no longer think I’ll get hives, now that I see how much is involved in the process! Still, it’s a nicely organized, very attractive book with great illustrations. It’s a bit clunky, and I found some parts tedious, but I liked it. I’m not knowledgeable enough to say whether or not this is a good reference work for someone who’s actually going to keep bees or for someone who already has hives. But, if you’re like me and just want to learn more about the topic, I found this to be a great introduction, and it’ll make a great coffee table book. ... show more
