If anything, this book is a rudimentary introduction to the concept of bonsai. There are zero "step-by-step" instructions to teach required skills to produce the art of bonsai. To me, bonsai is a practice and learn art form. Photos and illustrations are woefully lacking. I'm a "see and do" learner. This book makes the "art" of bonsai accessible and even non Gardners will have a chance of creating a bonsai. I would suggest a juniper from a DIY or garden center as your first.
