Banks is one of my favorite new artists to emerge in past few years and I've been eagerly awaiting a new album from her for quite some time. In comparison to Goddess, this release packs less of a punch, but is still an enjoyable release from the artist. Having a similar sound to Bank's first album, The Altar feels almost like a b-sides release of songs that didn't make the cut the first time around. Gemini Feed opens the album with seductive impact, but fades quickly throughout the rest of tracks. From an aesthetic standpoint, the cover is a thin cardboard and the internal protective sleeve is made of a generic white paper. Compared to the high quality vinyls that other artists are releasing at the moment, this one is a bit of a disappointment. ... show more

  • An amazing 2nd record from an understated artist.
Her first album stunned me. I wasn't sure what to expect but instantly became a fan. Then I saw her live and was overcome with goosebumps. This album is a perfect followup to her debut and shows that she can still write amazing songs that strike you to your core. It's a bit experimental but her voice and lyrics solidify that she is not just a blip on the music map. ... show more

Bought the physical copy and an ITunes download as well as have this downloaded on my Spotify. Will not stop replaying and am always hearing new favorites the more I listen. Judas, Poltergeist and Lovesick especially. Only gripe is that the physical cd doesn't have 27 Hours which apparently is only a digital bonus track but with Amazon being aces and giving an AutoRip copy when you buy the physical you still get this track in the AutoRip copy even though it isn't included in the physical CD. Thank you Amazon. ... show more

  • SURPRISE
I'm surprised that the version of gemini feed on the vinyl is different from the one i hear on spotify. It's good that i can feel the exclusivity of the vinyl format than any other format (if that's the case here). The thing is missing is the last track "27 hours" which is a disappointment for me because i've been long to hear it on vinyl format. But the good news is they include digital download card to cover this missing piece. For the sound quality of the vinyl itself i think it's quite good. eventhough it's not as good as the "goddess" vinyl. ... show more

  • Brings something different to the table than Goddess, and is just as good in its own right.
I listened to her first album for months straight in my car, and since her standalone "Better" released late last year, I've been eagerly awaiting her sophomore album and the wait was worth it. There are some notable differences in style between The Altar and Goddess. Goddess was much more "ballad-y", I felt. There are less tracks on The Altar which demonstrate her "belt it out" vocals, but these new tracks offer something else that I find just as satisfying. The arrangements are more varied/creative, and the effects placed on her vocals are heavier and moodier. So while I felt I got to enjoy her natural flavor a little more on Goddess, hearing her belt out the lyrics with so much emotion, The Altar gives us just as much emotion in the form of atmospheric production instead. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. This album kicks ass, and I suspect I'll be just as addicted to it as I was to Goddess for the next long while. ... show more

  • Explicit to the max, but Trainwreck, Gemini Feed, and Judas are excellent.
BANKS is great.

  • Incredible
One of the best albums you'll ever list to. "Mother Earth" is easily one of her best songs to date.

  • Skips tracks
I love this album with my whole heart, and Banks is my favorite musician. But my record skips about half the tracks and it's not even playable. I also have 3 by her which plays perfectly through so it's really sad how bad my vinyl was. I wouldn't reccomend this product it even just feels cheaply pressed sadly. I really wanted this album. ... show more
