This is a great book and brings back wonderful memories. It would also make a great gift for anyone young or more seasoned. They can see the different prices back in the day. Great for the coffee table.

  • A Wonderful Trip Down Memory Lane
Format: Paperback
This facsimile edition of the Sears Christmas Catalog, circa 1942, is a joy to browse through. Although many pages are in black-and-white, there is an ample supply of four-color pages to make the trip down memory lane a joyful experience. This may be a wonderful gift for today's children and their grandparents or even great grandparents to share. Here are no video games or electronic toys. Just examining the clothing and dress of the models in the catalog is a delight. They actual sale items cover a broad range of what both children and adults wanted almost 80 years ago. The price is very reasonable as well. This present is definitely a keeper. Families can return to it often and after New Years this year store it with favorite Christmas books, music, decorations, and the like. This is a genuine find that a lot of people will enjoy. While the title clearly notes the Christmas season, readers from other faiths (e.g., Jews, Muslims) also will like to see and read about the items which accent toys, clothing, and other items that are for all people all the year around. The fact that its date is 1942 means that the catalog also offers a glance at domestic family life in the USA during some of the worst times of World War II. In 1942, America was losing the European, African, and Asian Theatres of War. This small volume that was undoubtedly free when first released must have been a morale builder for millions of Americans. This is a super stocking stuffer. ... show more

  • Wonderful book
Format: Paperback
This book is like a mini replication of the original Sears book. It is loaded with everything. I gave it to a friend as a hostess gift yesterday. A few of us sat down to look at it and we had great fun looking through it. I am buying one for myself and another friend who said he has to get one too. Now I am going to see if there is a Sears Christmas book from the 1950-60's. ... show more
