Built a gin pole for my tractor.
I used a three point arm end, the heaviest duty I could find and cut a notch in the 2 and 7/8 pipe where I welded the arm onto the pipe. This is so I would attach it the three point upper link on my tractor. The gin pole is about 20 feet long, and I have a mounted ratching strap that supports the pipe from bending. This was the only hoist I could find that would run off of 12volts and had the brake for holding suspended loads. It's been working out very well, very pleased. I was able to build the front entrance way. Turned out beautifully, and was so easy to get into the ground. The only other thing I would recommend is putting a weight above the hook so it'll drop down on it's own.

I recently upgraded my truck-mounted crane setup, swapping out an old, exhausting manual crank winch for the Novawinch TH1000 Electric Hoist. After retrofitting the crane mount to fit this new unit, it has performed absolutely flawlessly. It handles lifts with total ease, but the real peace of mind comes down to the engineering. Unlike standard recovery winches that people try to cut corners with, this thing is properly designed and built from the ground up for vertical load lifting. It adheres to a strict industry-standard 4:1 safety margin. In practical terms, that means the winch components are technically capable of handling about 4,000 pounds, but it is conservatively rated for 1,000 pounds to guarantee that safety threshold.
