    • To charge or not to charge - who knows?

This is a decent battery for the price, but pleas understand how it works. NOTE: THIS CHARGER WILL CHARGE FOR 10-HOURS WHETHER YOUR BATTERIES ARE CHARGED OR NOT! The charger does not indicate if your batteries lack charge or have reached "full." Basically, you put your AA or AAA or mixed combo of batteries in the charger and plug the charger in. Each battery slot has a red light that will come on that indicates that the charger is charging that the battery in that slot. Once the charger is on and charging any one slot, it will automatically turn off after 10 hours. So if your battery really needs 15 hours of charging, or if your battery only needs 20 minutes of charging, or if you accidentally put in regular non-rechargable batteries, this device will attempt to charge your batteries for 10 hours and then turn off. To turn back on you have to unplug and plug back in. Without a separate device, there is no way of telling if your batteries have reached full charge or if they even need a charge in the first place. ... show more

Charges very slow. And you have to unplug the charger from wall before each use, you cant just leave it plugged in for your next use. Overall it does charge, just painfully slow. I had 4 aaa batteries on the thing for 8 hours without a full charge.

    • Tenergy. Buy the batteries, not this charger. Go with EBL chargers instead.

I am disappointed by this purchase. It does NOT have smart ports. It only has a timer. Those two things are not the same thing. Not only does it charge for a fixed amount of time whether the battery needs it or not (10h), I am not confident that it produces consistent results. Buy one with independent charging ports and in indicator. If you need or want to stay within this price range or thereabouts, try the EBL LCD Smart Individual AA AAA Rechargeable Battery Charger for Ni-MH Ni-CD. Unlike this one by Tenergy, it IS a smart charger. It charges each battery individually and you can see how full or how drained the battery is from the moment is it inserted to the time it is done. It also is smart in that it will maintain a trickle charge keeping the battery safely and fully charged. And, for most of us in the age of USB ports, this one with 4 ports where you only charge it for as long as it needs, will work just as well - particularly as most devices take 4 batteries or less. If you want to spend more, of course, there is the 8-port EBL version with currently runs about $26. My journey on this is, before I bought for myself, I had used the 8 slot EBL charger. Then, I decided to go cheap for my own. And, within a week of wasting money on this waste of time, I bought the 4-port version. So, I've tried all three. And, for safety, effectiveness, and efficiency, I do NOT recommend this TN145 charger. (Great success with the Tenergy batteries though. The blue ones fit into every battery compartment that I have tried so far.) ... show more
