  • Great addition to the RV. Cost effective and accurate Battery gauge.
Size: 8-120V,0-500A
I love this gauge so far. I've only been using it for 3 months. It's very sensitive, it will show that I'm drawing from the battery even if I have a single LED light open in the RV. It seems accurate so far, but I don't have an other measuring tool to compare it to... I've purchased the 350A model and I was able to configure it for my 200 Ah batteries, despite what others are saying (maybe I have a newer firmware). The difficulty come from the installation. The flange on the display is TINY, see the 3rd picture. That means that you need to use a hole saw that is of the exact diameter and that you need to be very careful not to damage the cabinet wood as the flange will not cover any mistakes. Also the wire that comes with the kit is very short. I've had to extend mine, I've used Category 5 network cable and it did a good job. When I was stapling the wires in place I'be shorted the white and the yellow... the wires became really hot but it looks like it did not damage the unit. The mounting gear is pretty fragile but IT DOES the job, when I looked at the cheap plastic nut I thought I'd have to come up with something better, but it really holds in place and the display is very light. I've installed it near the door so I can see it when we're closing the RV and making sure everything is turned off. To attach the shunt to the battery, I've used a few inches of a 1/2" copper pipe that I've flattened with a hammer and drilled 2 holes at each end. Then bent the flatten copper to an S shape so connect to the battery negative and to the shunt. I've made 2 of those that I've stacked just to make sure it could handle the current. See the second picture. NOTE: It's pretty bright at night, make sure you don't mount the display facing where you sleep. the display turns on when it's charging the battery, or when you're drawing current from the battery. Also note that with only the smoke detector and the monoxide detector drawing from the battery, it does not detect these as drawing any current from the battery and closes the back light and shows that no current is drawn. I'm very satisfied so far, Martin Politick August 2019. ... show more

  • Excellent , simple , accurate unit
Size: 8-120V,0-500A
Worked perfectly right out of the box. Nice heavy duty acrylic base and super heavy hardware. Simple operation is refreshing in this overly gimmicky app-inundated world we live in. Some other manufacturers could take notes from this monitor! Others have said there is no way to secure it into your cutout if you can’t access the back. I can confirm that. However , a 2 1/8” hole saw produces a perfect fit in plywood. I didn’t need it but one could add a single layer of electrical tape around the perimeter for a super snug fit. Yes, cord is too short. Ended up being just enough for my application. You can extend it without too much trouble. It’s a standard 5 pin JST-XH. Battery sampling wire I used was 18awg. The screw terminals on top of the unit worked great. Philips, very small. Consider tinning the end of your wire and then smashing it flat and trimming it square for a good connection. 18 gauge is probably about as big as it will accept. Even the backlight is great. When the backlight is turned off the screen still glows ever so slightly so you can read it. Perfect for nighttime in the woods. The screen is quite shiny so consider glare from windows when installing. The accuracy of any monitor depends on your configuration! For my one year old AGMs I used 50% of the rated capacity and charged them up fully with a good 3 stage charger before connecting this monitor. Then set the current SOC to 100 and forgot about it. I set zero % SOC voltage to 10.1. Have a couple weeks camping in the RV so far with good results. ... show more

  • Best to calibrate/setup on a fully charged battery
Size: 8-120V,0-500A
This is my first time using a shunt so I don't have much experience with them but this one has been working well so far, it shows the battery capacity of left (state of charge), amps being drawn and battery voltage and it's pretty good. It's best to calibrate it on a full battery you'll get a more accurate reading that way. ... show more

  • Works great!
Size: 8-120V,0-500A
Working well. Used it for my boat stereo's two 200Ah batteries in parallel (500 amps). It's wired up isolated from my boat starting and house batteries. Worked perfect as a state of charge gauge. Uses about .001 amps with it's backlight off. Instructions are pretty clear on setting it up and calibrating it. I didn't do the discharge to zero just cuz I didn't have a way to discharge them quickly. I fully charged them, hooked up this shunt, and set it for 100% charge which is about 13.3v on these LFP batteries. ... show more

  • For the money awesome, with limitations
Size: 8-120V,0-500A
The limitation is that you have to discharge your batteries and set the monitor at 0%. For me with 340 Ah of LFP that is an issue. I also occassionally have one or two batteries, so resetting will be troublesome. I did this with one battery and it seems accurate. In other words, there should be a reset method to set to 100% which would be much easier for me to do. Again, for the money, quite amazing. I actually didn't use the clear plastic mount do to space and logistics and have yet to find a permanent home for the display. UPDATED 8-27-2020. I purchased this on 4/15/2019. After learning more about the device, It is possible to reset to 100%. With the Lithium batteries I have, when charging amps drop to less than 0.2% (170/.02=3.4 A) I can assume the batteries are full and then getting it into the % mode... the right button... then press and hold it again. Bingo 100%. But, now after a year and 4 months of it working well, it has stopped working over night. It shows 0% each morning. Depending on when I look at it it might be back up slightly. This would happen if was disconnected from power or that the battery literally are depleted. Neither is the case. So, I am trying to figure out what is at fault. But, it looks like the meter is. More testing is required. ... show more

  • Great
Size: 8-120V,0-500A
I followed the directions, and also watched a couple you tube videos to make sure I did it right. It works very well, and it is really a plus to be able to see the exact percentage left on your batteries. I thought at first that I didn't need this, but realized that simply checking the voltage of a lithium battery will not give you any precise idea of how much life is actually left. It also helps when monitoring the charging process. Looks like I am going to need more solar panels. ... show more

  • Difficult to install. Beware of long wire runs between battery and meter.
Size: 8-120V,0-500A
I was initially excited about this product. There were downsides to it, most particularly the fact that the wire connecting the meter to the battery is only 6 feet long. The other downside is that my batteries are mounted outside my RV. Therefore, critical connections to the meter are exposed to weather. This is a removable issue of course but further complicates installation. So, I extend the wire, waterproof the connections near the battery and hook everything up but the meter works only intermittently. It was a days worth of work installing this and obviously am disappointed. Another matter bears explanation. This meter records both voltage and current. The batteries condition is compared to the manufacturer's amp hour rating but the amp hour rating changes based on draw on the battery. A battery may have a 100 amp hour rating with a 1 amp load but a 50 amp rating with a 20 amp load. Thus, the numerator is imprecise. So, I am returning this meter and reinstalling the twenty dollar Baylite which I also purchased on Amazon. It displays both voltage and current use. For current I can calculate battery capacity on my own. My batteries are rated at 140 amp hours. If I draw 20 amps, I have seven hours of total service until the battery is depleted. Of course, I would only run that load for 3 hours so that my battery capacity remains above 50 percent. ... show more
