  • Tenba DNA 13: Price is high but, wow, this is a great bag
Size: 13 DSLR Messenger Bag Color: Blue
This Tenba DNA 13 isn't the cheapest bag but now that it is in my hands, I get it. It seems like the team that designed this sat down and figured out how to make a bag that they themselves would actually use. It is really well rounded camera/messenger bag. Like you, I've owned dozens of camera bags over the years trying to find just the right one. You know, the one that is super small and comfortable but holds a lot of gear. It doesn't exist. That's the problem. So you have to pick your poison. In looking for a bag this time, I wanted a bag that had features I could use in a daily commuter bag primarily. Laptop, papers, a jacket, maybe lunch, etc. I also wanted it to double as a camera bag for days that I want to carry slightly more than the minimum, for example, when traveling or when bringing both a digital and film camera set up. This is not a stealthy, minimalist street photography bag. For that, you'll need to keep looking and find a second bag. Pros: It looks good. It doesn't scream 'camera' and it doesn't scream 'bicycle messenger' either. The quality is obvious, from the seams, the thickness of padding, the materials. It will hold quite a bit of camera gear and long lenses if needed. The bottom is waterproof. There are stretchy water bottle holders on both sides. I never carry water but every trip I go on, someone in my family needs me to carry a bottle of water. I don't want to put a bottle of water inside a bag with camera gear, so this works great. The top pass through is easy to unzip and there is a flap over the zipper to prevent water from getting in. The front flap secures very tightly using the velcro that is actually hard to pull apart, unless you use the stealth method and pull downwards on the flap rather than outward. The velcro magically, and nearly silently, pulls apart. Awesome. The front clips are magnetized and clip closed extremely easily but won't unclip on their own. Sliding a clip opens it up in a smooth motion. Seriously, this bag is like witchcraft, this magic velcro and these clips are quality, high-end features. The camera pod has easily adjustable and thick divider pads with some that flip up, allowing for stacking of items on top of each other. The whole camera pod can be taken out to open up the space. There are two dividers in the back for a laptop and a tablet or something flat. My 14" MacBook Pro fits easily. The front organizer pocket has a bunch of dividers for pens, accessories, and a zippered pocket. There is a luggage passthrough on the back. The strap is super soft and comfortable and it has a rubberized surface on one side so it will not slip off your shoulder. You can wear the bag at the hip or tighten the strap and wear it in a sling-style. There is an included cross-body strap/security strap that can pull the bag closer to your back if you really need it close for more intense activity. There are more great features but just too many to list here. Cons: Really stretching to find anything wrong here. I guess it would be nice if the strap was more of a quick-adjust style, but truthfully, it isn't hard to adjust as it is. This also means there isn't a gaudy, uncomfortable buckle hitting you in the chest all day. It does have a large footprint, it's a little bit of a thick bag. If there was a slim version I probably would have bought that, but in truth, I'm not sure a slim version would fit the mirrorless full-frame camera I'm using and definitely not with a laptop at the same time. It's not terribly thick but it is not a slim messenger bag either. Actually, as I look over at an old messenger bag I have, I think the base measurements are the same but this bag doesn't taper towards the top, so it isn't actually thicker than the messenger it just gives that impression. I can't think of anything else that is really a 'con'. Nearly perfect daily bag for work, travel, medium level amount of camera gear carrying days. I'll use a different bag when I want to bring the minimalist camera kit but for everything else, this bag is 'literally fire' as my kids would say. (FYI, it's not literally fire) ... show more

  • Perfect Size and Configuration
Size: 9 Slim Messenger Bag Color: Blue
I love this little camera bag. It's the perfect size for my most frequently used cameras. It's very easy to use (almost silent velcro!) and makes whipping out your camera a pleasure. It's build quality is excellent. Its handle is very functional and the shoulder strap is one of the best I've ever used. ... show more

  • Bought the 16 slim messenger bag and returned it.
Size: 16 Slim Messenger Bag Color: Black
I was leaving on a trip and needed a bigger bag. I immediately selected Tenba, because my current ‘go to’ bag is the original DNA 13 messenger bag. I have used it for years and praise it regularly. Except for the strap, which I found caused me shoulder pain after a short usage under heavy load. Ordered from Amazon and delivery came with just days to spare. Tenba’s promo material extols the ‘improvements’ made to this series in its current iteration. Not for me. The most important failing of the new bag is the permanently attached strap. I did not find it comfortable, and knew from experience that it would not work for me for long days of carry. With the original, I was able to swap it out for a better strap. (see photo). The material both outside and for the internal dividers also seemed of lower quality to me, but I am not a materials expert and don’t really want to argue this as a fact. It is just how it felt to me. There wasn’t enough time to shop for another bag, so I had every incentive to keep this one. I did not. I returned it, and adjusted my equipment to allow me to use my trusty DNA 13. ... show more

  • Just got mine
Size: 16 Slim Messenger Bag Color: Black
I am not sure where the reviews are for tenba but I just received my bag and it was a bit smaller than I expected (not a bad thing for me at all). The bag seems very high quality and has all the features that were listed. This is my first camera bag and I am looking forward to putting it into action, will upload pics and an updated review once I do. 4/5 for now based on my first impressions, still trying to determine for sure if this bag is for me. ... show more
