I bought the Proadapt firm mattress after tearing my rotator cuff at work. The 40+ year old conventional sears mattress my grandmother meticulously preserved and later gave to me, was starting to become increasingly painful to sleep on. I began the search and was immediately overwhelmed by the options and lack of reference points to compare comfort and price points of the vast diversity of mattress options. I've never been afraid of spending money for quality, especially when it comes to something that will be a staple in my life... I bought a $600 mattress from a brick and mortar store, but felt rushed by the salesmen so I shopped around a bit since the projected delivery time was 10 days out. I felt compelled to look at Tempur-Pedics because my dad has owned one for about 15 years and loves it, calling it "the most comfortable mattress in the world". Well, back when he bought it, they were about $1500 for a ca king... Its fair to say there has been some inflation since then. I was immediately shocked at how much more these were than anything else offered. I tried them all out and was eventually torn between the proadapt firm and the medium. The medium seemed more comfortable when laying down for the first few minutes. The firm seems more supportive and I find that as your body heats up the mattress, it slowly but surely conforms to your body and supports healthy alignment with the proper pillow. I went all out and bought an adjustable base too, because you really don't get the most out of your mattress without one. They're awesome. Lots of options out there, and many different price points. I went with an off brand model because they all seem to have very similar features, but vastly different prices. I canceled the order for the $600 mattress the same day. Eventually I would like to try other mattresses like the ones offered from essentia made with latex. There are some others that don't have brick and mortar stores that also look interesting. Over-all, i'm happy with this mattress and would recommend it to someone who likes a very firm mattress that also cradles you. I'm 150 pounds and 6'1. I can sleep on my side no problem. Some find it too firm to side-sleep, but i don't, especially with the tempur-pedic contour side and back sleepers pillow. I should also mention that Tempur-Pedic mattresses are going to cost the same regardless of the retailer. The biggest difference is the return policy offered. Be careful and don't buy until you're ready. Making a sale should not mean somebody buying a mattress that isn't right for them. Update 2.5 months after purchasing: Mattress has broken in considerably and feels softer(just right). I'm confident I made the best choice. I don't experience either of the two primary complaints from Tempurpedic/memory foam mattress owners, which are "sinking in too much" and "feeling hot". I love love love my mattress, and feel spoiled to the point where i'll be displeased to sleep on anything less! Since this is such a big ticket item, I will be updating this review annually at least for the first few years. Update 8/1/2019 I know I said I'd be doing this annually, but I got a surprise day off today and the last two nights have been so comfortable, I've been thinking more about how great of a purchase this has been. Not sure if the mattress is fully broken in or if I've fully adjusted to it, but what I can say is this is the most comfortable sleep I've ever had. I occasionally go up to the mountains and sleep on a much lesser memory foam mattress, and sometimes a sofa bed. The sofa bed gives me pain every time, so I prefer the floor. I enjoy the lesser memory foam mattress in comparison to that. But in anticipation of coming back home to my TP, it's always what I look forward to most. I've read some complaints from people who've owned the mattress for a matter of days that are upset because the mattress is way too firm. I can attest that after 8+ months of sleeping on it, it's softened ALOT and i'm pretty light. I did what my salesman recommended in the beginning- spending a good 5 minutes or more a day "kneading" the mattress with my knees until I was satisfied enough. Will update again. Wow this is soft. You just kinda sink into it. If you plan on living the rest of your life in bed this is the mattress you should get. You will forget all your obligations and when you finally wake up it will be 2074. And that's just the first night.

This is an incredible mattress. I know that because it is the second one we have purchased, the first being for our bedroom and this one for our guest room. It seems very hard initially, but softens after a few weeks of use. I didn't think I could adjust and now I think it is the best mattress we have ever had. Has helped with back pain too. I tried another less expensive brand memory foam mattress for the guest room, but ended up returning it and just facing the fact that we had to spend this much to get a really superior product. ... show more

We love the firmness we got a hybrid medium. Feels amazing it really is a cool mattress. We have had it for a week and LOVE it. We stay cool and comfortable! Firmness is just right We got the medium hybrid. No aches or pains sleeping better. should have done this sooner. We were told we'd be sore for a while adjusting to a new mattress.... NOT AT ALL. Had one before and went back to a spring mattress. Needless to say after 3 long years on a spring mattress I couldn’t wait to get back to a temperpedic. I will never have another mattress again but this one. We felt relief from the aches and pains within the first two weeks of being back on it.

After a few years of sleeping on a $500 Sleep Innovation bed-in-a-box mattress, I decided to try out a Tempurpedic to see if the brand lived up to its name. Unfortunately, for me it did not. Visually it is a very beautiful mattress and is silky to the touch. But that's about where the pros end. The cons, on the other hand, are that it is incredibly soft - much softer than you'd expect from a "medium" mattress - and it sleeps hot. The description led me to believe that it would be a cooling medium firmness mattress but alas it is neither. I've had it for two weeks and have woken up sweaty every morning, despite sleeping in a 68F apartment with light covers. If this mattress were <$1000 it would be a different story but for >$3K it's not worth the money, or the hassle of returning it. There are some great hybrid mattresses out there but this one missed the mark. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because it is definitely high quality and quite comfy, so long as you aren't spending a third of your life on it. ... show more
