    • Rubber boot came out on first use

I used it on Sunday for the first time, and the boot pulled out and got lodged around the base of one of the plugs, deep inside the valve cover tube. I couldn't drive the car because it prevented the spark plug cable from seating. I also had to go to the store to buy another socket (this time a magnetic one) in order to finish the job. Getting the boot dislodged was a pain in the you-know-what. I emailed Tekton and they said "These boots can come off when the diameter of the spark plug is a little thicker. Pressing the boot back into the socket and putting a little dielectric grease on the spark plug usually helps it come right off." I'm not a professional mechanic but I have changed spark plugs enough times, and I've never seen this happen before, even with old sockets. I don't know, maybe I've just been lucky. Tekton didn't offer to send me a replacement. I like their stuff, in fact I just ordered more last night. However, in this case, I think I got a bad one, and the customer service experience could have been better. ... show more

okay... it's a socket for spark plugs and technically it gets the job done. however, the rubber boot came out on the first spark plug i pulled out! i have plenty of sockets that would serve the same purpose without the rubber boot. i guess it's back to the rubber hose method for now and i'll be searching for a quality magnetic type of spark socket instead. smh. ... show more
