    • Lovely and practical, with range of designs, does keep warmth better than mug

I drink mostly tea, usually green tea leaves brewed by the pot (a Chatsford teapot, which has a large removable fine mesh basket for the leaves), and occasionally coffee, brewed with a pour-over filter in a mug. For both, I don’t gulp it down but sip it more slowly, and I like a largish cup. So keeping my cups warm long enough to finish them is worth some extra effort. I saw this product advertised and was struck by its beauty, that it is ceramic, that the cup is double-walled to hold temp, and that it was both microwave and dishwasher safe. Double-walled glass mugs are very fragile and often top-heavy, and double-walled steel ones are tough but not beautiful or machine washable or microwaveable. So this looked like a promising alternate route. Plus, it is larger than many double-walled cups and comes with what looks to be a well-designed brewing basket in case I want to brew tea in the cup instead of a full pot. And it comes with a fitted lid that also serves to drain the basket or hold a wet teabag. I really like it. I got the celadon lotus/water lily one, and it is lovely. It keeps coffee hot longer than a regular mug though not as long as a double-walled vacuum insulated steel cup. Unlike a steel cup, though, I won’t burn my lips on the rim, can microwave if a warmup is needed, and can put it in the dishwasher when done. And ceramic feels better than steel. Although the included lid works, I recommend an inexpensive addition to this setup: a silicone mug lid. I got a white one made by Epoca: https://www.amazon.com/Epoca-Silicone-Buddy-Cover-2-Pack/dp/B00I9N31X8 Right now only the pink and green ones are in stock at Amazon, but this lid is terrific. It has a knob on top to lift with and a slit on the edge to prevent vacuum lock. Being silicone, it won’t break if dropped, won’t chip the top of the cup, has no plastic residues, won’t get too hot to hold, and is dishwasher and microwave safe. It really helps to hold in the heat and I can’t imagine making a hot cup of tea or coffee and not using it. It fits right in with this ceramic mug set. ... show more

I drink tea all the time. This mug is amazing. I have owned dozens of mugs and this mug has all the features I have always wanted and it's designed well. It is a touch heavier than I thought it would be due to the thickness of the walls of the mug -- which is great! Not only does it hold heat, but the ceramic is strong and keeps my hand from getting scalded. This is key as the mug has no handle and your palm is against it when holding it. The mug is also the right size to fit comfortably in the size of my hands (Woman's Large Size Gloves FYI). And the tapered top to base gives it an organic feel and balance in your hand. BUT when it is soapy, be a bit more careful on your grip. The basket/filter is fantastic quality for loose leaf and cleans well -- I imagine it will last forever. Not all brands hold up. The artwork on the side is lovely and doesn't have that melted plastic feel to it. It does not seem likely to chip or fade. I hand wash everything though as I use it all day long and decaf at night so I have no idea if it would fade, but it seems like it would hold up but I'm not going to tempt it. The lid fits well and has a lip under it so doesn't just slide off when carrying it. But I do wish the lid had a bit more of a profile (think muffin top) so it would be easier to get a grip on it with my arthritic fingers to lift the lid off. I'm a klutz and need a bit more to grab but most people would think the lid perfect. I will be putting a second one in another design on my wish list. ... show more

    • Lovely cup that delivers a great tea moment

Every year around the holidays, I buy gifts for those I love. This was meant to be one of those gifts. I decided that this would make the perfect gift for myself. I was feeling guilty up to the time I steeped my first cup of tea, using a gift pack which was also intended to go with this gift (shhhhhh). I actually got another Tea Forte' mug and tea set for the gift recipient because I liked it so much. First impressions: The look of the mug is so beautiful. The colors are calming and the design fits with my tastes. The cup has weight but not so much that it is uncomfortable to hold and the width around the cup is good and doesn't slip as I'm holding it. I made a single steep pack and it was pretty straight forward. Open lid, pour tea into strainer, boil water, pour over tea, lid the cup and wait. Once it was steeped, I removed the lid, put it upside down, removed the strainer, placed it on the lid and tried my first sip. There were no loose tea particles floating in it, which made me very happy. It was devine! I did not have to add milk, honey or sugar because the tea was that good! Since then, I've made 1-2 cups of tea with this each day for the week I've had it. 1 loose leaf pack I used left a tiny amount of particles in the cup but it could have been the speed I poured the water over the top. I did take the cup with me twice in the car. It's cold here so as my car was warming up, I let it steep in the cup warmer. I emptied the strainer in my yard (all organic folks, figured the birds would like the dried cherries that were in it) and placed the lid on my seat with the strainer in it. The lid is not for drinker from, it has the hole there to allow the handle of the strainer to hang from the lip of the cup. It is not meant to be a travel mug and wasn't the easiest thing to do. You wouldn't want the water to be too high, you wouldn't want to take too long to drink the tea and it is ceramic and could break. No stars taken away from my review because it is not advertised as a travel mug. I still think I'll take it with me occasionally and this will be great for work once my vacation is over! ... show more
