  • Maybe all the amp you need
I’ve been downsizing all my amps for years as technology allows. My very first bass amp was a Fender Bassman with a 1x15 Alembic-design cabinet; my last purchase was an Eden WTX260. I was looking at the Trace Elliot ELF, and then I spotted this tiny amp. At half the cost of the ELF, could buy two of these and have a complete backup amp for the same price. No one local had one in stock, so I took a chance and ordered one, figuring even if I hated it I wouldn’t be out that much. Turns out I really like it. While it’s not as flexible in EQ as the Eden, and it lacks a compressor, it’s less than half the size of the Eden, and really has all the tonal control I need. And it has one feature the Eden doesn’t- a 10 Megohm input impedance, which makes it compatible with piezoelectric pickups. It works very well with the Fishman pickup on my upright as well as with my P-bass. I’m currently using it with a 10” Eden ETX110 cabinet and an older 12” coaxial Eden, and this little amp will drive either one alone or the two together as loud as I need. With a well-designed 8” cabinet this would make a superb minimal rig for practice, jamming, and acoustic gigs. ... show more

  • Small. Loud. Cheap. Transparent. Perfect.
So after playing a few gigs with a daisy-chained 25 watt Fender Rumble and a 35 watt Ibanez Soundwave 35, it was very painfully obviously time for an actual gig-worthy amp that was both powerful enough not to need being run through external sound and both small and cheap enough for me to afford, and be able to move. I did not like the idea of having to move another full bass stack like when i was back in highschool. I already had a 250 watt cabinet from Seismic Audio - great little 4x6 with lots of punch for both guitar and bass, but I didn't have anything that would really push the cabinet. I looked into combos and micro amps and large heads and decided the thing that mattered the most was just the right power and size to be immediately portable. The Trace Elliot ELF was looking promising until I saw this and it checked a lot of boxes - less than two inches tall and six inches wide means it fits in the gear trap of my bass case. 200 watts means it's got plenty of juice for larger shows. It's dead-simple to use with only a bass/mid/treble EQ and gain/volume combo. What I didn't expect to work so well is its' compatibility with smaller amp cabinets (I have a tiny 35w 8" cabinet I use for a modified Blackstar Fly3 Bass) and at low volumes it still kicks out plenty of low end through that. Be careful though - I'm fairly certain I'd be able to shred that little cab with too much volume. I also didn't expect the DI out to be so massively useful. I was able to take my bass case, nothing else, with me, to a recording session and go direct into an interface and the SOUND. Dear lord the TONE. It was this perfect, sparkling, rich, punchy bass tone that wouldn't be out of place on either a smooth jazz record or an aggressive metal album (you'd be surprised how many things those tones have in common on bass). It was a sound I'd been hunting for since I was like 15. And I have it now. I'll never need another amp, I feel. This is well worth the money for any size rig, and the absolute confusion on their face when you hand someone this little box and go "yeah that's a 200 watt monster" is just an added bonus. ... show more

  • Amazingly DISAPOINTED......
Super small. Specs are over inflated. So is the price for do or don't get. 200 watts?? Not RMS. Maybe 200 watts "peak music power"! Gross lack of power useable more for a guitar amp rather than a bass guitar amp. I tested this against a 5 WATT guitar head. You could mic this into a larger system, but it defeats the purpose of using it in the first place. Performs like those ancient car amplifiers that bolt under the dash. Gain set at 11:00 volume set at 3:00 and it's maxed out at the power stage. Don't expect to drive anything but the most efficient SPEAKER. And I mean a single speaker. Like a single 8 inch, single 10 inch maybe a single 12 inch. Driving a 4x8 or 4x10 will simply cause overheating and the protection circuit to cut in and out. This unit is a practice amp only. Lack of power will make it difficult to sound out over a small guitar amp so forget about a drumkit. Unit has a DI out jack, but then going into a PA, I can find way cheaper options than this. Even cheaper pedals will work for that purpose. I suppose the unit has it's purpose as a mini bedroom practice amp. With a small speaker cab, it will fit about anywhere. ... show more

  • Very neat, very small, good sounding bass amp!
This TC Bam200 is a neat little bass amp, less expensive and comparable to other popular micro bass amps, and just what I wanted for my purposes. Granted, I don't gig with it, but I suspect it has more than enough oomph for smaller venues if you wanted it for that. But if you just want a small (very small; you could fit it in almost any gig bag pocket with ease) bass amp that has a 3-band EQ and sounds great, this will do the trick. I especially like the fact that it, unlike some other micro bass amps, does the job of giving you good bass sound without any unnecessary coloration. It's O/P sounds pure and clear to me when playing both my Ibanez Mikro bass or my rubber stringed U-bass. I use it with a 10" Elf speaker cab for at-home practice and jamming, and this setup hardly takes up any space in my smaller living room/office. A great tiny bass amp that does the job and is not terribly expensive either IMO..... ... show more
