  • Price-Tone-Weight Ratio - AMP is a Winner !! (gigging musician) Price-Tone-Weight Ratio - AMP is a Winner !! (gigging musician)
Size: 100 Watt Style: V3
I have gigged with this amp for close to a year now (about 30+ shows) and this little guy is amazing in the tone to weight department. For years I played through an Ampeg HLF4x10 cabinet with a Yorkville Bassmaster head 400watt (the tone of this can re-arrange your guts) and I loved it...for the tone, but the rig is beastly heavy and big. I was initially interested in the Rumble 500 with the two 10" speakers (because I like the punchiness of 10 inch speakers) but when I went to the music store then only had the Rumble 100 watts. I tried it out and played through the amp for close to an hour (I play G&L L-2000 USA). The amp sounded great...just awesome tone, beefy bottom, and lots of adjustments in the EQ's. And it only weighs 22 lbs.! So my wife got me one for Christmas (but gave it to me sooner because we had shows and why wait?) I play in a four piece (now five) rock cover band and this things gets plenty loud. 90% of our indoor venues are bars, restaurants or social clubs (American Legions, Eagles, etc.) and this amp is more than enough. I have used it for numerous out door gigs as well and with the DI out to the PA, the amp is fine. I have never had the gain past 25% and the main past 50% for any gig. In fact, I can set the upper limit of the main to about 45% and then control my volume with the volume pot on the bass itself. You can switch to a distorted channel...I'd say that is fairly descent, better than many pedals I have tried, but I rarely use it (except for Smoke on the Water...but not always...more of a personal choice). There is an effects loop, but that is not controlled by a foot switch (only switching the between the main channel and the dirty channel is controlled by a foot switch), and that is the only major knock on this amp. But for price, the tone (fantastic) and the weight (the box feels like it is empty!) this amp is tough to beat. At the store, I tried Ampegs small combo that are comparable (and I love my Ampeg cabinet) but this Fender Rumble sounded markedly better to me. It is not just the tone, but the amp really responds to how you play the bass. The guitar players in the band are jealous at how little this thing weighs. And it hardly takes up any room in the van when we load out for shows. You can gig with this amp, no problem. I should add that our band really endeavors to keep our stage levels reasonable...a lot of venues and crowds these days just don't go for the wall of noise anymore. But if you play in a band where your guitars run full or half stacks, this amp can still hang if you also direct out to the PA and use the amp itself to monitor. I really care about my tone, and my Ampeg/Yorkville rig destroys...I played that rig for years....but 9/10 times it is overkill, and who knows if the audience truly appreciates it anyway...? the Fender Rumble 100 sounds great...it is super light and small, but packs a solid punch. I also have a Peavy 75 watt combo (my first amp) 12" speaker...also sounds really good, but weighs almost three times as much, and no where near as loud. I can't recommend this amp enough. If you are looking for your fist amp, or you're looking for you next amp and are tired of dealing with a monster rig, this is what you ought to purchase. As I have gone on in years playing shows...the saying 'less is more' holds true. A side note: This amp did stop working near the end of our last set at a party...we were outside, but the amp was in shade...the power just cut out...and would not power back up, at all. (I plugged my bass into the board and when finished the show). Fender has a 5 year warranty and the place my wife bought it has a two year warranty on top of that...I sent it back ($22 my cost) and i was sent a brand new amp (Fender does not repair these amps, they only replace from what I was told). Anyway, the replacement came back FedEx in two days and this little amp is back in business and 4 months later (another dozen or so shows and a lost of rehearsals) it is still going strong. ...there is a part of me that still wonders if I would like the 500 watt with the two 10" speakers even more...but I am very satisfied with the little guy. (I added a photo of a gig we did at a wine festival so you can see I have used it outdoors...the amp is on the right side of the drums, and it looks very nice with the silver speaker cover...our band is WonderChunk...wonderchunk-dot-com) Thanks for reading. Hopefully this helps you!! ... show more

  • Works great with a chill drummer and quiet to medium loud band
Size: 100 Watt Style: V3
I’ve been a guitar player for 25 years when I got into playing the bass a few months ago. I first got the rumble 25 but returned it because I felt that I had to turn it up too much to get the volume I needed next to my drummer, who has a small kit and a light touch. (I did love the sound and simplicity of the 25 though! Also, sounded fantastic with a clean Strat.) With the 100 I never have to turn it up beyond half way on the master and 25% on the gain. (If I played in a rock or metal band, I would go for the 200 though.) With a 12 inch speaker the amp is still surprisingly light and portable. What I love about it is the tone though. Make sure to play around with the tone shaping options. I also like to put an eq pedal in front of it to get the exact sounds I hear in my head. This amp will bring out what’s in your guitar as my p-bass and my jazz sound radically different through it. It also doubles as a solid acoustic amp for my Django style guitar with a Bigtone piezo pickup. I can’t believe the quality of gear you can get these days for the money, versus 20-25 years ago! ... show more

  • Great Little Amp!
Size: 100 Watt Style: V3
First off, I will admit that I hesitated to buy this amp. I was looking for something in this price range that would be loud enough to play along with drums and guitar for casual jamming purposes with decent sound. At a mere 22 pounds with a 12" speaker, I worried that this wouldn't be enough amp and that my money would mostly be paying for the Fender name. I was wrong. So, so wrong! This is all the amp I was looking for and then some. Well built, plenty of tone options and practical features without any silly-gadgety stuff I don't need. The sound really won me over. The thing sounds beautiful, from smooth, clean lows to super-gritty overdrive. Plenty of volume for jamming/practice and light enough to take anywhere without a second thought - seriously, the bar has been reset, and the days of back-breaking combo bass amps may be numbered. I have a little Acoustic B10 practice amp that weighs more than this! If you are shopping at this price point you should seriously consider the Rumble 100 v3. Go try it out at a music store if you can and see for yourself (I didn't have that option so I just took the leap). There may be amps out there with a little more volume for the buck but I wouldn't trade that for this Fender's beautiful tone and ridiculously light weight. I think we have a classic-in-the-making here. ... show more

  • Great Amp for the Value
Size: 100 Watt Style: V3
This is a great amp for this price-point. I bought the used version for about 10 percent off. I thought there were supposed to be built-in effects on the Rumble series... Perhaps not the used one. At any rate, it will be okay to buy effect pedals once I am ready to use them and invest in them. It would have been cool to try different effects at this point, though. The volume is hard to use, as I am a beginner. I do not, yet see a difference when I turn the overdrive on. Again, that is probably because I am a beginner. It sounds good with my Stingray and round-wounds. At about 20% volume, it is plenty loud for my room. So, I am confident that this amp will follow me to those eventual church and small venue gigs. As others may point out, this is among the best practice amps, because it does work as a small venue amp. A smaller wattage amp is not recommended for bass guitar. A larger amp, as with a larger Fender Rumble amp, may be better if you plan on using it as an eventual medium venue amp--if you can afford it! ... show more

  • Light and LOUD
Size: 100 Watt Style: V3
It’s light as a feather and loud as hell. I am very impressed, and I had my first gig with it today. I don’t know what all the fuss is about this amp not having enough power to keep up with a drummer and guitars. I played it tonight, and it was plenty loud and very clean. I didn’t even need to turn it up all the way. Plenty of power to spare. And I wasn’t hooked into a PA. It did get pretty hot, but the gig was outdoors and 99 degrees. A real bargain at $349. ... show more

  • Great Bass Amp but Might Be Too Big For Home Practice (100 Watt)
Size: 100 Watt Style: V3
I went looking for an amp to replace my little practice amp that came with my first bass guitar. In trying to decide where the line was between too big and not big enough, I chose the 100 watt combo. I cannot believe how light this thing is for the power it has! The sound is clear and crisp but may be too much for in the house (I keep the volume knob at about 25% and turn down my pickup volumes). I really like that it has an aux in for playing my phone or other music source through it. This does, however, flatten the sound of the music unless you wear headphones. This is another place where this amp shines. It uses a standard 1/8" headphone jack to allow headphones to be used. This is great for practicing without bothering everyone in the house and the bass sounds great coming through the headphones. I play both 4 string and 5 string basses through this amp and I have yet to hear even the low B distort or sound off at all, even through headphones. For comparison, my little amp that came in a bass package a while ago tends to buzz and rattle even with the low E and sounds awful in comparison to this amp. ... show more
