  • Good ingredients, dog likes it
Flavor Name: Grain-Free Roasted Bison & Roa... Size: 28 Pound (Pack of 1)
I've been using this for my German Shepherd and it's been working well for us. I like that taste of the wild lists real meat sources instead of vague fillers. I usually mix it with some ground meat and shredded vegetables. Overall solid option if you're looking for a grain-free formula with decent ingredients and variety in flavors. ... show more

Flavor Name: Grain-Free Roasted Bison & Roa... Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
The first ingredient in this dog food is buffalo. Although it is a quality item, raw buffalo contains about 80% water. After cooking, most of that moisture is lost, reducing the meat content to just a fraction of its original weight. After processing, this item would probably account for a smaller part of the total content of the finished product. The second ingredient is lamb meal. Lamb meal is considered a meat concentrate and contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh lamb. The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of complex carbohydrates in a dog food. They are naturally rich in dietary fiber and beta carotene. The fourth ingredient is egg product, an unspecified (wet or dry?) form of shell-free eggs. Quality can vary significantly. Lower grade egg product can even come from commercial hatcheries — from eggs that have failed to hatch. In any case, eggs are easy to digest and have an exceptionally high biological value. The fifth ingredient is pea protein, what remains of a pea after removing the starchy part of the vegetable. Even though it contains over 80% protein, this ingredient would be expected to have a lower biological value than meat. And less costly plant-based products like this can notably boost the total protein reported on the label — a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The sixth ingredient includes peas. Peas are a quality source of carbohydrates. And like all legumes, they’re rich in natural fiber. However, peas contain about 25% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The seventh ingredient is potato. Potatoes can be considered a gluten-free source of digestible carbohydrates. Yet with the exception of perhaps their caloric content, potatoes are of only modest nutritional value to a dog. The eighth ingredient is canola oil. Unfortunately, canola can be a controversial item. That’s because it can sometimes (but not always) be derived from genetically modified rapeseed. Yet others cite the fact canola oil can be a significant source of essential omega-3 fatty acids. In any case, plant-based oils like canola are less biologically available to a dog than fish oil as a source of quality omega-3 fats. The ninth ingredient is tomato pomace. Tomato pomace is a controversial ingredient, a by-product remaining after processing tomatoes into juice, soup and ketchup. Many praise tomato pomace for its high fiber and nutrient content, while others scorn it as an inexpensive pet food filler. Just the same, there’s probably not enough tomato pomace here to make much of a difference. From here, the list goes on to include a number of other items. But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of this product. With four notable exceptions… First, flaxseed is one of the best plant sources of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Provided they’ve first been ground into a meal, flax seeds are also rich in soluble fiber. However, flaxseed contains about 19% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the actual meat content of this dog food. Next, salmon oil is naturally rich in the prized EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids. These two high quality fats boast the highest bio-availability to dogs and humans. Depending on its level of freshness and purity, salmon oil should be considered a commendable addition. In addition, chicory root is rich in inulin, a starch-like compound made up of repeating units of carbohydrates and found in certain roots and tubers. Not only is inulin a natural source of soluble dietary fiber, it’s also a prebiotic used to promote the growth of healthy bacteria in a dog’s digestive tract. And lastly, this food contains chelated minerals, minerals that have been chemically attached to protein. This makes them easier to absorb. Chelated minerals are usually found in better dog foods. ... show more

  • My pup loves this product! Thank goodness. I've tired so many now.
Flavor Name: Grain-Free Roasted Bison & Roa... Size: 14 Pound (Pack of 1)
So my month border collie is fussy. I wanted a grain free alternative protein. And boy have they delivered. My pup woofed them down and was looking for seconds. Usa made! Venison/bison rather than fish. Is an awesome option.

  • Highly nutritious at a crazy-good price!
Flavor Name: Grain-Free Roasted Bison & Roa... Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
The downside of this dog food? I have literally never found it in any pet store I have been to, but if I did, I'm sure it would be much more expensive than on here. Also, I would take of .5 of a star because this brand only has one size of kibble, which is the only bad thing I have to say about it. That said, the kibbles are mid-sized and all three of the dachshunds can handle them with no problem, although the size seems to make them less appealing. But if you have a very small dog or one that does not like to chew, this may be a bit of a problem. I like to use a mix of dog foods, so I scour every dog food nutrition rating site that I can find before I make a choice. (This may be how you found it, too.) This dog food is at the highest tier of every list I have seen. When you compare the price of this to foods with similar levels of quality, the difference is INSANE. When you open the bag, it has the smell of a high-quality dog food. You can also feel the quality of the pieces of food in your hand. They are not overly dry, but do not make you feel the need to wash a film of smelly fat off of your hands like poor quality brands leave. This food is a great value. I feel good giving this to my dogs, and my wallet isn't crying after I buy it. If I had a large dog that ate a lot, I would pick this food because it is inexpensive enough that I could afford to give my dog a quality dry diet. The taste also seems to be rather enjoyable, although my doggies seem to prefer kibble that is a bit smaller when they have the option. For my dog recovering from surgery, I use a bit of wet food in a mix of this and Wellness Complete Health Small Breed and she inhales it. It seems to mix very well with moist foods, absorbing enough to take on some flavor without turning into a mushy mess. ... show more

  • Loved it but wasn't for my dog...
Flavor Name: Grain-Free Roasted Bison & Roa... Size: 14 Pound (Pack of 1)
I initially liked this food for our medium size, 1yo, terrier mix. She's part Boston Terrier so it was crucial to find a food that didn't give her bad gas. At first it was great but over time it seemed to cause some major itching for her. Take that with a grain of salt, as every pet is different with different allergies. I do appreciate the price point for the ingredients listed and used. I also love that it's grain free. ... show more

Flavor Name: Grain-Free Roasted Bison & Roa... Size: 28 Pound (Pack of 1)
Best quality health, friendly ingredients, and great food quality for both puppies and adult dogs! Dogs love this food and spend a lot of their time eating it and the quality is so high. I keep mine on almost full feed and they only eat when they are hungry! Easy to chew and time occupied! I mix this with fresh or fresh, frozen dog food, and it really goes a long ways as well as maintaining their health and bone, joint, and muscle structures! ... show more
