I have two 28" 4k displays hooked up to this thing and, true to Targus's word, they run at 60Hz. The machine I'm using with this dock is a Lenovo ThinkPad E570 (15" 1080p display) with an i7-7500U and a GeForce GTX 950. The problem is that, if you do anything remotely taxing on those displays, there are compression artifacts or the refresh appears to drop to 30Hz. "Remotely taxing" includes things like opening the Start menu, moving a window around, maximizing/minimizing windows, clicking through emails in Outlook, typing in Word, and simply utilizing Microsoft Remote Desktop/RemoteApp. Simple office stuff, really. Also, the NIC's transfer rates appear to top out at 20 MB/s (yes, I mean megabytes, not megabits), making it useless for transferring large files. I won't even get started on Linux support. DisplayLink provides drivers for Ubuntu, and they only support up to 16.04 LTS (which is fine, since the other versions have shorter support lifecycles anyway), but good luck getting two 4k displays working without ripping apart config files, and good luck using anything other than Unity. My desk layout is 28"-laptop-28", and it works beautifully in Windows 10 build 1709 as long as I don't actually use them, but doing actual work on the external displays is a chore and is quite laggy. If this laptop had Thunderbolt I'd have gotten an eGPU instead.

I have this surprisingly small docking station hooked up to Gigabit ethernet, a 4k 60hz display port monitor, and a couple other usb peripherals. It provides all the power necessary to charge my 2017 Macbook Pro while under heavy use. In short if you are looking for a single cable solution this is the way to go. What I haven't tried is connecting a second 4k 60hz monitor through the dock as well. It is supposed to be able to push dual 4k 60hz monitors or a single 5k 60 hz along with the other peripherals. Where this differentiates itself is that it has the best of all worlds. There are other cheaper alternatives that can power the macbook pro but cannot drive a 4k monitor @ 60 hz (most do 4k @ 30hz which is a little choppy to my eyes). The alternatives that do 4k @ 60hz only provide 60w power delivery which isn't enough to charge the macbook while under load. Additionally most docks that can do 4k @ 60 hz don't include ethernet. Pros: * This is fully detached from the laptop and you can sit it somewhere else so long as you have an thunderbolt 3 cable long enough (you should probably use one of the active/more expensive tb3 cables if the length is over 1.5 ft). Some other hang off the side and dont work well in my environment. * Dual 4k @ 60 hz * Gigabit Ethernet * Power Delivery @ 85 watts The only hiccup I have had so far was after plugging/unplugging from my laptop many times my ethernet switch got confused and refused to talk with the dock. I rebooted the ethernet switch and then all was well. This was not an issue with the dock but rather my switch. UPDATE: After 5 months of working flawlessly it started acting up. First was monitor flickering which eventually degraded into being completely broken (not delivering power, ethernet not working, external monitor not recognized and external keyboard not recognized). I went through Targus support (which their online interface is pretty terrible but the people were nice and helpful). Eventually they had me ship the dock back to them (at my expense) and they shipped me a out a replacement. I just got the new one in and was experiencing some monitor flickering coming from the display port connection on the device. I switched it over to a Thunderbolt 3 -> DisplayPort cable and am using the TB3 port on the dock and that is gone. When this device is working properly its fantastic, however there are some obvious quality issues. UPDATE: Nov 12 2018 After a few weeks of usage of the replacement it has completely failed in the same way the original docking station did. Nothing works and it is effectively useless. With the quality issues I would not recommend anyone purchase this unless you like expensive paper weights.

What a life saver! I work remotely and when I got my new laptop it had 1 USB. 2 USB-Cs and an aux port...that was it. I usually work with dual 22 inch monitors as well as a wireless keyboard, mouse and a bunch of other peripherals. I purchased a USB-C hub that worked but got extremely hot - to the point that I was afraid to use it. I ordered this and couldn't be happier with it.I could easily hook up a 3rd (and maybe 4th) monitor and have 4 USB ports left available. Having something like this increases productivity 10-fold for me. The top of the docking station also has small rubber strips so I rest my laptop on top of the docking station to keep it out of the way. Great purchase. It is definitely pricey, but you get what you pay for! I would definitely buy this again.

I was looking for a docking station as I had just started a new business and needed a way to connect my laptop to the two monitors at my desk. I had performed a lot of research and found that this Targus had great reviews and would be everything that I needed. It was over $50 more at Best Buy for this exact same docking station so I purchased it on Amazon. I was worried that it may be flawed, but I was able to get my whole my laptop setup to my monitors and printer fairly seamlessly I did have to go to the Targus website, find the item I purchased and download some software, but that was easy. I have had the docking station for a few months now and I have not really had any issues with it. The only problem I have is that once in a while when I plug my laptop back in, the other monitors do no register. However, if I restart my computer this quickly resolves the problem.

I purchased this item and it never worked. It also did not come with directions to use it. I received instructions from our IT guy and even purchased additional cords to make sure it wasn’t a defect on my end. Nothing worked. Finally, my company gave me a docking station and their product worked perfectly. Unfortunately, because of the fact I took over 30 days trying to make the item from RCG Wholesale work, my request for return was denied. The seller didn’t even offer other ways to make their product work. I am very disappointed with this purchase from RCF Wholesale and will NEVER purchase anything from them again. I also will not be purchasing anything electronic through Amazon, only in person will I purchase these types of items.
