I needed to split some big logs and was looking for something extravagant and new fangled, since I'm almost 60 years old, and splitting wood can really be a chore. But most products were too expensive, and their ratings weren't all that great. So I decided to go back to basics and I bought this. What a breeze. This thing went to town and split logs with knots, and just drove right through wet, green wood. I just set it with a small claw hammer and then used my 16 lb. sledge on it. I only had to lift the 16 lb. sledge about a foot or so above this wedge and strike it 5 - 10 times and that was it. I'm so glad I didn't spend $100 on something stupid. The tool itself is fine, but you definitely need a good sledgehammer (at least 4lbs) and a way to stabilize the logs. Once you have that set up in place, logs split with relative ease!

    • Makes tough, stringy wood play along. A drilling hammer starts it, and the maul finishes it.
