There are no rubber protections on this umbrella so it is not a great choice for kids. Opening it was difficult and it does not lock into place, easily falls in on itself, whether by design flaw or having received a faulty product, I am unsure. This seems like it could cause injury considering the thin metal spokes, if it were to collapse in mid-use. The metal is very flimsy and I have a feeling this thing will fall apart after one or two uses especially if it is even the slightest bit windy. Even the strap to hold it closed it hardly sewn on. I have quite a few umbrellas, and I'm in the constant quest for the most compact (yet large(when open), lightest (yet sturdy) umbrella. here's the findings: - as described, opening is manual and it takes a few uses for the mecanism to loosen up a bit. the release button is well designed and the handle cap clicks nicely in place when you close it. - This is a 5-section-fold rib design (as opposed to rib which folds in three sections) this is supposed to make the folded umbrella more compact, *shorter*, but it also makes it thicker. so it's always a compromise in simplicity for compactness. was it worth it? you'll read about that later on. - this is an 8-rib ďesign, instead of 6 ribs. Again, a compromise in lightness to obtain a sturdier product. - the seller advertises "7. 04 oz, 6.7 inch short enough (folded), ultra light" and also a measure of 37.5 across, from side to side (see picture from ad) which translates into almost 40 in tip-to-tip. - IN REALITY: ... folded measure size is not 6.7 or 7", but 8.0 inches. ... weight is not 7 oz (198 g), but it is 28% heavier, at 9 oz (255 g) without the sleeve. ... measure across, side-to-side, is not 37.5", but 34.5" instead. ... measure across, tip-to-tip, is not 40 but 37.4" instead. -- so be advised, this isn't a bad product, but if you care about the details, you might find yourself a disappointed victim of sloppy (if not deceiving) advertising. ... show more

If you need a compact travel umbrella that you don’t really care about losing then this will do. If you’re looking for a quality umbrella then this isn’t it. It won’t hold up on 15+mph winds so don’t expect much. Other than that I think it works good enough to keep in the suitcase in case you’re stuck in a rainstorm. It’s small so your legs will get wet if you’re tall like me but it will keep your head dry. Update: the umbrella did not hold up to winds over 8-10mph. ... show more

It is a good umbrella. Not automatic though so the instructions that were included were useless. But it is easy to figure out how to operate it. Just a hint though, since I was confused at first too; once you have opened the umbrella you have to push the sliding part all the way up until you here a click so that the umbrella is taut. It doesn't stop at the "first" resistance if that makes sense. P.S. A velvet bag is included for the umbrella ... show more

I gave this affordable, handy, lightweight little umbrella a good rating, 4 stars. It came quickly in the condition I expected. One thing I liked about this little umbrella is that the button to operate it has a smooth surface, not one of those little blade buttons that almost cut your thumb. I have not used it extensively. So, I cannot comment on how durable it is over time. However, it is so inexpensive that I would not mind if it only lasted a year or two. It seems to be pretty well made and operates smoothly. The instruction manual claimed that you push the button and it will expand automatically. Mine would not. Before activating the button, one must pop off the cup on the bottom, which is very easy to do. Even then, the umbrella did not automatically extend when the button was depressed. Still, it was very easy to manually open the umbrella. I did not expect that feature. So, if it were not promised by the enclosed instructions, there would have been no disappointment. Nice compact umbrella to use while traveling. So far it seems sturdy, and I have purchased a few ultra compact umbrellas in the past. I had to take off a couple stars because the description says this umbrella is under 7” and it is not. I have an umbrella case that is 7” long that and this umbrella will not fit in the case. The umbrella measures over 7”. It does come with a velvet cover but I needed it to be 7” or under. I have decided to give it to one of my college aged kids for school. So 2 stars off for wrong description and the investment of my time with this product. However, in the future if I want a compact umbrella and the length is not an issue, I will happily look at this again. ... show more
