A Tough, Lightweight Traveler… I did a lot of research before selecting the SwissGear 4010 Soft-side Carry-on, 360-degree spinner, 18 inches. First and foremost, it met the size requirement for European airlines and having owned several SwissGear products, I knew I could count on the quality. I was a little concerned that instead of eight wheels it had only four, but this little guy handled almost all the airport bumps with no problem and stood up to the rough tiled streets of Lisbon with aplomb. There was plenty of room inside, and I was even able to fit in an extra pair of shoes and folded sportscoat. Also, it’s very lightweight and easy to lift into the overhead compartment. The only issue I had (which I noted in some reviews) was the ratcheting handle sometimes wouldn’t always stay in place, but this was not a deal-breaker. This IS a carry-on, and I wouldn’t check it with any expectations of it coming through unscathed. All in all, I’m very pleased with my purchase. ... show more

    • Not bad, but has no side handle

Bought the 18 inch carry on, be warned, unlike what’s shown in some of the product pics and diagrams, it has NO side handle. Aside from the top handle, the bottom has a little flap (also not a handle) that you can fit your fingers in to grab - a poor man’s handle i guess, better than nothing. I bought the 18 inch carry on to avoid needing to gate check my larger 22 inch victorinox carry-on. On some smaller aircraft, that one does not fit in the top bin of the airplane, and they’ll gate check it. In fact, this happened to my traveling companion who had a 22” roller, while i was allowed to bring this on-board (it was a united flight - smaller plane). Also flew on delta and jetblue with this, no issues fitting into carry-on top bin, i had it filled to the max, pretty much bulging out (packed using compression cubes). The handle seems a bit flimsy, jiggles quite a bit, and worst of all the locking mechanism for the different heights of the handle is inconsistent - sometimes it gets stuck and won’t extend more than the first level, but sometimes it does - annoying but whatever. Roller wheels are great, very smooth, nice 360 action. The material on the sides seem a bit thin, so i question its longevity and durability. But, i don’t travel too much, so it’s fine for the occasional trip. ... show more

We’re taking a trip in on Air Canada which happens to have strict carry on dimensions that are smaller than what’s allowed with most airlines. My husband was able to fit approximately 15 items of clothing, flip flops, and a pair of dress shoes. We are sharing one checked bag, and always worry about the checked luggage getting lost. This is a perfect solution to take a few outfits in case checked luggage is delayed. The handle sticks a bit and requires a little finesse to get it back down, but once you figure it out it works fine.     • Don’t buy. Handle unstable & badly engineered

Just took this light weight small roll on (despite not having a side handle to facilitate lifting) on a two week trip abroad. Since it was carry on, it was always with me. The handle never held its position once pulled out of the suitcase. This handle doesn’t lock in place and stay there. It slips up and down, even on escalators, when moving on uneven surfaces. Honestly, traveling means carrying another bag, packages etc. and if the roll on is unstable it’s dangerous. Especially getting on and off escalators, going down curbs, rushing to catch trains etc. Very disappointed. It was exhausting adjusting this handle and to remember not to let my hand tough the release button right on top of the handle, that cause it to go up and down. Because that’s the only place meant to adjust the height of the handle. I have lots of roll ons and suitcases. Never have I had one this unstable. Frankly, don’t buy this.
