This review is for the Surfboard Fiberglass Repair UV Kit - Epoxy Filler, Easy DIY Fast Waterproof UV-Resistant Repair Set, Gel Coat Scratch Repair, Color Match for Holes Chips Cracks on Boats Jet Skis Yachts Surf Boats I don’t surf so didn’t order this for surfboard repairs. I use UV curable epoxy for electronic circuit boards and other electronic applications. In my photos I show application of both the clear coat and the thicker clear fill-in applied to resistors on circuit boards. Normally I would use this to hold down a jumper wire on a circuit board or conformal coat areas that would be sensitive to humidity or corrosion. I used the enclose UV penlight to cure the small blobs of each in about one minute of exposure time. For small amounts of these epoxies like I show in my photos the included penlight is sufficient. However, for large areas of say a surfboard repair, this penlight really isn’t fit for the job. I have a large UV epoxy curing flashlight (see photo) that would work for large areas. The wavelength of the UV light is somewhat critical so not just any UV light will work. You can also put the surfboard in bright sunlight all day and that should also cure large epoxy areas. Keep in mind that with any UV curable epoxy you must be able to expose all of the epoxy to the UV light otherwise it won’t cure in areas in a shadow of the light or between opaque objects. This worked great for my application and I recommend it.

I used this for sealing a slice in my knee board that was letting water inside. The main goal was stopping water intrusion, and the epoxy filler handled that without much trouble. Application felt straightforward, and the material filled the damaged area cleanly enough to restore the board’s integrity. After curing, the repair felt solid and held up once I got the board back on the water. One downside was the included UV light, which felt underpowered and not very helpful. Fortunately, natural sunlight cured the epoxy just fine, so I finished the job outside instead. I've been wanting some UV resin to play with on 3d prints for the most part but would like to find out what else it might be good for too. This small kit was appealing because it was reasonably cheap and included the curing light. The kit seems to include most everything you would need to smooth out small dings in just about any surface you might want to use this on. The "glue" is moderately thick so you can fill in space with it, but it includes multiple methods of smoothing it down too (scrapper, sandpaper, clear curing plastic) if building up is not desired. The real issue here is that little light they included, I'm just not much of a fan. It's a single small LED and waving it across the tiny text print I was checking it on was an exercise in patience. I'm sure it would have worked eventually, especially if I was working on a thin layer vs big glob, but I wanted big glob for this and it stayed wet a good long time. I eventually just put the piece outside and it was cured in a few minutes in the sun. The blob of cured resin is strong enough for my needs. When I tried tearing the think print after the cure it tore outside of the initial rip suggesting that it could hold acceptably well on the PLA I tested it on. If you do 3d printing, this is just another option for making small repairs vs having to do a full reprint. For my off-label use this is good enough and I will probably just let the resin cure outside when it's needed. I would give it a higher rating if the UV light had a bit more power. If I end up using UV resin more often, I'll probably get a MUCH brighter light to speed things up and keep me from having to hand hold a small pen.

This is a complete and cost-effective kit to repair minor gouges on fiberglass, such as the hull of a personal watercraft, after it came in contact with rocks. The kit has enough materials to make up to four repairs. The clear and well-written instructions are conveniently printed on the box itself. The kit contains everything you will need for the repair: Masking tape, one bottle of fiberglass glue, one bottle of gloss varnish, a scraper, four 3.75"-square transparent film sheets, two 3"-diameter sandpaper pads that you can velcro-attach to a rotary sander, and even a rechargeable UV flashlight with a mini-USB charging cable. The flashlight has an indicator LED light that's red during charging, and turns green when it's done. The best part of this kit is the instant result of UV curing of the fiberglass. You don't have to wait a day for the repair to cure between coats like traditional fiberglass repair that relies on air drying, which could drag the process out over several days. This kit allows you to complete the repair in a couple of hours.
