  • Sturdy and safe ladder -- the most important aspects
This ladder is very sturdy. I have never attached it to my bunk bed (not my forté), but it is still very secure when I climb up and down. I do have two critiques. One is that the rungs are placed pretty far apart (and I have long legs). When I awake in the morning, and I'm half asleep and looking for the next rung, they all seem incredibly far apart. Secondly, the rungs do have plastic pads, but the rungs are still a little bit narrow and hard on the feet. If you don't know what I mean -- the more narrow the rungs, the more they dig into the fleshy part of the bottom of your feet. These rungs are okay when it comes to comfort These rungs are a lot better than the rungs of the bunk bed I have. And, that is why I had to buy the ladder. The built-in ladder of my bunk bed is torture to climb. Those rungs are metal (no padding) thin, and round. They are like climbing up metal broomsticks. Ouch! The most important thing about this bunk bed ladder is how sturdy it is. It is very sturdy, and it has thick rubber caps on the bottom of the ladder. These caps keep the ladder from sliding (my ladder is on tile flooring). Overall, this Surco 506B 66" Bunk Ladder with Hook Retainer seems to be a sturdy, safe ladder. (It needs a better marketing name.) ... show more

  • Great Ladder for an RV or Travel Trailer
We got the ladder today and it fits perfectly. We have an ACE motor coach and we needed a ladder to reach the bunk above the cab and this was the perfect height. The only thing is the hooks on the end, are for a 1/2" rail (maybe) but ours is a bit thicker so the hood won't hold. We are currently bending the hooks (which are made of metal), to see if we can make it work. We don't want to install the hook holders on the front of the bunk which would go through covering. As for holding up a person, it held me fine and I'm not as svelte as I used to be. The rubber feet at the bottom keep the ladder stable when climbing and I had not problem. The ladder is very light weight so if you are concerned how much weight your are placing in your travel trailer or RV this will be just fine. I wish we had this ladder in our travel trailer rather then the wood that it came with, which had round pegs, and would hurt your feet when climbing. I climbed the ladder in bare feet and it was comfortable. If you need a lightweight ladder for a travel trailer or rv, this is a great product, and can be used right away. ... show more

  • Don't buy it.
It's a waste of money, it bent horribly on my first night of owning it, but I'm nearly 300 pounds so I gave it to a fellow resident that weighs no more than 120 pounds, giving the ladder the benefit of the doubt that it might have been my weight. Nope. The metal bent horribly worse for her within two days, and on the third she threw it away. It also hurts your feet to climb on, to the point of me just using it to jump off my lofted bed. Also not at all adjustable, so it didn't fit on my bed and I had to use wall putty to keep it in place. I went to Walmart and bought a $25 step ladder to replace this one, and I'd highly advise you to do that before buying this. The picture is when it was mine, but when my friend threw it away (no more than a week later), it was a "(" shape ... show more

  • Best ladder for metal bunk beds!!
I bought this to go with the Blantex camp bunk beds. The ladder that is made to go with the Blantex beds had painful round rails! This one has flat rails and makes getting into the super high bunk easy! The only thing to note is that the ladder is not specifically made to go with this bunk set (it won't permanently attach). My husband and I remedied this by using long velcro straps to strap the top of the ladder to the bunk frame and it works like a charm!! I am glad we bought this!!! ... show more

  • NOT for adult use. bends way to easily.
I ordered this because I read somewhere (not on Amazon) the weight rating was 250lbs. I weight 250 and by the time I stepped on the second step the vertical rails both bent and buckled. This might be OK for people up to 150lbs or rambunctious kids up to 100. This definitely is NOT DESIGNED FOR ADULT USE. If you used it in a very close to plumb position it might work a few times but if you lean it like you should a ladder at a 4:1 ratio it will fail and I would n't expect to get much use out of it. The finish and look are very nice but the rails are just way to thin and the treads "seem" to be installed with 3/16" thin wall roll pin in single shear. ... show more

One of the rare ladders at this height. My son's wooden ladder broke for his tall bunk bed and I needed a replacement. This suits our needs. I was able to screw this into the wood to secure it. Be careful that rambunctious kids not knock it ajar and pop it up out of the hooks. My 7 year old learned quickly how to walk properly up the ladder. ... show more

  • Surprisingly sturdy!
We use this for a bunkbed. The lower bunk is full-size, and the upper is twin. It leans against the lower mattress and upper, and without any hardware connecting the ladder to the bed frame it stays in place for the climb-up. We don't use it for getting down; the person just hangs over and uses the bottom mattress to land on. Mind you, adults use this ladder so I don't know if you'd want to use this for children without somehow affixing the ladder to the frame. Before I purchased this I could not tell if it came with hardware - it does NOT. ... show more

  • poorly made
I really liked this at first for my daughter to use but I am seeing it starting to bend a bit in the middle. The bunk is a twin over double so it has to slant a bit which could be the reason.
