Description

Sam and Dean Winchester know all the secrets their father recorded in his journal. Now you can, too. Sam and Dean Winchester take up the reins of their father's quest to hunt down the demon who killed their mother. Lucky for them, John recorded the secrets of his dark crusade in his one-of-a-kind journal filled with hard-won knowledge of monster hunting and preternatural dealings—a tome revealing the heart of a man haunted by guilt after the death of Sam and Dean's mother . . . and a story that ends abruptly at John's own disappearance. Without the diary, Sam and Dean would have been lost during their adventures on the CW's Supernatural—and now, with the journal itself in your hands, you too can delve into the eldritch world of monsters, ghost, spirits and ghouls alongside television's hottest demon hunters. An opus of hidden knowledge, John Winchester's Journal is a must-have addition to any Supernatural fan's occult library. Read more

  • Awesome gift idea for Supernatural lovers!
I bought this as a gift for my younger sister who LOVES the show Supernatural. She said she really liked this book because it is written like the journal that is discussed in the show. For Supernatural fans, you may know what this is referring to. I never really watched the show much myself, but apparently John Winchester had a journal and it is talked about a lot in the show, this is supposed to be the journal. I think it would have been cool if it actually looked more like a journal than a novel style book. My sister is 15 and is not the best reader ( I would say probably middle-school level) and she was able to read it with ease and comprehend the story. I think that if you are not a fan of the show you may not enjoy the journal, but I am unsure. My sister is super excited to take this journal with her to the Supernatural convention to get some signatures in it. The book shipped quickly, was packaged well and the book was in PERFECT condition. ... show more

After Mary Winchester is mysteriously killed in a house fire caused by a supernatural entity, her husband, John Winchester, becomes completely obsessed with trying to find whatever it was that killed her; and hunting and killing any supernatural creature he finds along the way. Along the way he keeps a journal to make note of important anniversaries and to write down any new information that he learns about all sorts of demons, vampires, and anything else that goes bump in the night. Overall, the book John Winchester’s Journal written by Alex Irvine was very well written and the journal format made it fairly easy to follow, and provided a clear outlook on what the protagonist’s thoughts and feelings were. Although the climax and resolution of the story would be fairly predictable to anyone who’s ever watched the television show Supernatural, it ended on a very satisfying note, and wrapped up quite nicely with where the television show begins. However, the author included additional factoids about various myths and folklore that abruptly broke up the storyline, and were slightly difficult to get through. Although some readers may have enjoyed these extra tidbits of information such as “Staking. Ash or oak most effective. Rom traditions favor hawthorn.” and felt they added to the story and personal diary motif, I personally felt that they were hard to follow along with, and made me lose my place in the central plot of the story. All in all I believe this book was successfully written and did an excellent job of showing how the protagonist’s thoughts and feelings became warped by his preoccupation with avenging the death of his wife; and contributed a great background for the show it was inspired by. ... show more

  • Great book!
Very interesting reading as I thought it would just be a "boring" journal with pictures, but it makes one realize that everyone should keep a journal of their lives and names and numbers of people that they surround themselves with also things they learn. Fascinating reading for someone who is not a big reader of fiction. What I really loved about the book is reading what John Winchester went through mentally as he raised his two boys and from a father's perspective of what it must feel like to raise two children in what he had to raise them in. He had no choice, but to force them to learn to protect themselves which he didn't get to see how important his training was. He was so conflicted. His story is very similar to captain Ahab's obsessive story of Moby Dick. ... show more
