I was skeptical of purchasing a retractable cord reel, but I've had zero issues with the retraction mechanism or the cord getting bound up. I now have two of these, the first installed by the overhead door of my garage, and the second by the back service door for quick deployment on projects. The first reel I purchased was several years ago and didn't have the "Alexa" smart plug. Personally, I'd prefer this model to the new Alexa plug. I'll never download the app to use it's functions or give them permission to track and take my data. Also, it will be interesting to see how well this new, much more complicated plug will hold up long term. I have high hopes since the original model works so well. I'd recommend waiting for these to go on sale during the Christmas Holiday and save yourself $40-60. Then buy two! ... show more

I did a lot of research on roll up extension cords and this particular one meet all my requirements and had great reviews. The price point was is to be expected for a 50 foot 12 gauge cord. Yes there are more expensive ones out there on the market, but they are no always better. I especially liked the fact that it arrived in a well packaged sturdy box, and a manual that showed a blow up diagram and parts list. Also unlike other reels for sale I received grade 5 bolts to hang it from my 14 foot shop ceiling. I can say I have only played around with it for a day but it’s nice a smooth when it retracts and is less noisy than my air hose reel. All in all this is a very well constructed unit and I have no doubts that is will stand the test of time. Ok now for the other reviews on here that stated the unit came with a 15AMP circuit breaker. I did appreciate that insight, so much so I ordered a 20AMP circuit breaker to replace the 15 AMP one that original comes with the unit. I purchase the replacement on here and will provide the link below for those interested in do the same thing. Anyway it was rather easy to do, pull the sticker back a little on each side to access to 2 screws that are hiding, then look for the 4 plastic hooks holding the cover down and gently pry them up and do the swap. It literally takes about 5-10 Mins of your time, now I will say this to be clear........ Do this at your own risk and understand that it will most definitely, without a doubt, void any warranty. If your unfamiliar with electrical wiring then I suggest you hire someone to do it or just leave it be. I did it purely for convenience and I am also an electrician and understand the limitations with regards to the wire and amperage draw. So if your comfortable in doing this then the link is just below here. Had some issues with one item where the retracting mechanism was broken and wouldn't stay locked out but ordered another and that one was fine. I think someone else mentioned the mounting hardware is weak and I can confirm that the head of the lag bolt twisted off so I had to use some better bolts and move the location a bit. It is possible to just install the bolts into the wall and slide the bracket onto them using the keyhole slots but the washer only fits through if you have it at an extreme angle so you have to leave the bolt sticking out a decent amount. I found it easier just to remove the 2 screws holding the bracket onto the reel and mount it first and then reassemble the reel to the bracket. ... show more

The design on this makes installation more difficult than it needs to be. The bracket is not made to be removed. It is mounted by getting the screws started and spaced so you can fit the keyed bracket over the screws. The clearance is minimal, so you need to measure the hole spacing rather than use the bracket as a template. Once in place, there is not enough room between bracket and spool to fit a power tool. I don't mind using a wrench, but it should not have been needed. Now that it is installed and configured, i find that it turns itself off at various times. So when I leave it plugged in to charge my sons electric quad and dirt bike, it decides to stop that on its own. I have had this for some time before installing, so cannot return it. I may cut the head off and replace it with a new non-smart three way splitter, and forget the smart functions. ... show more
