    • Good Awnings But They Need Better Polycarbonate Panels

I purchased 4 of these 40" x 80" (brown panel) awnings 5 years ago, and they have survived surprisingly well over that time, installed on sunny, South-facing windows. The awnings have endured temperatures between 28 and 115 degrees fahrenheit, winds to 60+ mph, and the torrential rains that we just recently received here in Central California in January of 2023. The 3 plastic brackets, and aluminum front and rear braces, are still in perfect shape. However, all 8 of the polycarbonate panels, on all 4 awnings, have started to fade and crack at the striped seams now. I recently inquired with the original seller about purchasing new polycarbonate panels, but they stated that they only sell the complete awnings. However, they did offer a discount on new awnings, even after 5 years. I will probably purchase the new awnings as needed and just use the polycarbonate panels. Then I will have the extra parts if/when needed. These awnings are really lightweight and easy to install. I used 4" x 3/8" stainless steel lag bolts to install these awnings, as the lag bolts needed to be long enough to go through the awning mounting brackets, stucco, lathing, and into the headers above the windows. I tried installing these awnings pre-assembled, and also putting the brackets up first and then sliding in the panels. Honestly, the awnings are so lightweight that if two people do the installation it is much easier to install the awnings pre-assembled. This actually makes getting everything level and lined up much easier. I also used 3 of the awnings as-is, but I had to cut about a foot off of one of the awnings due to one the windows being narrower then the other 3. It was really easy to cut 6 inches off of each polycarbonate panel using a straight edge and a sharp utility knife (razor blade). Overall, I recommend these awnings. I just wish that the polycarbonate panels lasted as long as the rest of the components. However, to be honest, I was not expecting the awnings to even last 5 years, considering the abuse that they have endured. Considering that these awnings are only $60 (plus $20 shipping), I guess that is much better than having metal awnings professionally installed for hundreds or thousands of dollars more. ... show more

This is Not a high quality awning but it actually serves its purpose pretty well. I suggest assembling the unit and making a template out of cardboard to drill your holes. IF You are installing in a salty environment—at the beach- replace the 4 screws with stainless. The included ones are the only part that will corrode ... show more

We hung this 40"x 80" awning above the rear door of our business. Assembly was easy. Helps to have another pair of hands helping, but surely an be done by one person. This awning is mounted on a cinder block wall. Drilling the holes wasn't too hard. Use a pilot bit first to drill a smaller hole and then a 3/8 masonry bit to drill the final hole dimension. Tip: make sure to line up the mounting hole with the hollow part of the cinder block, otherwise you have to drill a 3in hole into the solid wall of the cinder block. I replaced to included bolts with concrete screw anchors (3/8 x 3in). The included bolts are wedge anchors, surrounded by a metal sleeve. This sleeve is compressed when the bolt is tightened. The problem with this type of bolt is that the compressed part of the sleeve would make contact with the, in my case, cinder block, only for a fraction of an inch. Over time these sleeves have a tendency to wiggle themselves loose. The anchor screws I used are made specifically for masonry applications and the total length of the bolt makes contact with the cinder block. Another tip: drill only the three top holes (38in on center), then temporarily hang the awning and mark the lower holes to be drilled. This makes it almost idiot proof that all 6 holes eventually line up with the mounting holes. Took me about 2 hours to assemble and mount this thing by myself. ... show more

    • Doorway Canopy - doesn't fit right and should have more to keep it together

I was super excited to receive this. But then I put it together. It should be simple, but the coroplast doesn't like to stay in with the poor design (during assembly and installation to the house). The first side went in OK, but assistance is definitely needed for the second half. The screws keeping this together are only for the two far ends and the outside-center portion. There is nothing to keep the inside (or house-facing side) together until it is installed onto the house. At that time it would probably be okay. However, once I went to test it out above the door, the center bracket did not have enough room to be able to install centered above the door. (It would be hanging in the doorway). I thought, okay, I can have it offset. NOPE. It will not secure around the door frame - the door is too wide (I have the standard door size). I think I will be able to use this above my garage, but I am not even going to try that for a bit. I'll wait until I am less frustrated. Other than that it looks fine when all together. Another thing - when we went to move it to test each location, the center inside section kept popping out (since there are no fasteners there keeping it together) - and the coroplast didn't want to just slide right in. Also I ordered the "white". The "white" color is a plastic sheeting on one side of the coroplast and it was already peeling off. So now mine is "clear". FYI... Also, also, you will need a drill with the correct size to drill the holes for the set screws. ... show more
