  • The most protective of the 4 cases I've tried but I don't like it
I tried 4 different cases for my replacement Note 8 after the original's screen shattered from a slow drop from 2 feet high in my original case (Incipio Dual Pro). This case had survived many falls/drops/bangs and two of the corner's outer layers had chipped and it was a little slick to hold on to, but in combination with a tempered glass screen protector I thought I was fine. On the fateful day at work I had my phone in my scrub breast pocket, leaned down to get my work bag and it fell out of my pocket, clipped my work bag, and hit the sealed grip flooring (not hard tile or anything) and the screen protect popped off intact and left my phone's screen shattered with chips missing from the bottom left corner. I was devastated even before I then went through 2 weeks of hell through Asurion and received a dud of a refurbished replacement followed by a sketchy second refurbished replacement-replacement. When looking for a new case I was leary of staying with the incipio. So I purchased 1) UAG (Urban Armor Gear) Plasma Feather-Light Rugged [ICE] Military Drop Tested Phone Case, 2) Unicorn Beetle Shield SUPCASE Full-body Rugged Holster Case with Built-in Screen Protector, 3) Spigen Hybrid Armor Case with Air Cushion Technology and Hybrid Drop Protection, and 4) new Incipio case (Reprieve Sport). My biggest concerns for the case were corner and screen protection. I ended up returning all of them except the Unicorn Beetle case even though I hated it, because all of the others had varying degrees of poor corner protection (or 3 corners were good but the corner holding the S-Pen was pathetic), and they had almost no lip to prevent the long sides of the phone's screen. None of them worked as well with the tempered glass screen protectors as the original Incipio Dual Pro did (The Unicorn Beetle case has it's own screen protector so isn't used with a separate one unless you modify it to remove the built in one). I have always liked spigen but it was overall just too thin and flimsy for me. The outer grip was one of the better ones but my bigger concern is when the phone is unintentionally OUT of my hand (nearly all my previous phone's falls were NOT from my phone slipping from my hand). I chose the Unicorn Beetle because, again, I think it will protect my phone the best) but it's a pain to use, ugly, and has many annoyances (I don't want to have to use 2 hands to pry the unnecessary port covers off for the jack or charger, it adds a ton of depth dimension to an already big phone, the design aesthetically is poor and looks like everyone else's iphone case to me, and it still doesn't have the perfect S-Pen corner converage as far as the back of the phone goes (but of all these cases it's the best). I'd honestly prefer to have to work and pry my S-Pen out and have that corner protected then not have it protected (and I use my S-Pen all the time). In summary, this case is not at all attractive to me (everyone at work has a similar looking case for their iphone in different colors). It's bulky and doubles the width of the phone. The built in screen protector is very hard to keep clean (outer surface and inside- lets dust hair, etc inside somehow, and the protector cracked after about a month when it got knocked against a cup holder in the work vehicle. The S-Pen works OK on the screen protector (I'd give it an 8/10 in that regard). The biggest things I hate are the unnecessary port protectors that I'm about to just cut off. I have to use 2 hands to pry them open enough to insert my aux jack each time I get in my car to play audio as well as to plug in the charging port. It actually almost prevents the aftermarket plug from engaging all the way (the plug that came with my replacement Note 8). It's corner protection is OK, still lacking somewhat on S-Pen corner. Where it beat the other cases was it's protection of the long edges of the phone's screen with the top sandwich style case piece. Side button function isn't the crazy effort is is with Otter cases. Another drag is something about the backside of the case makes it less effective with my Spigen magnetic car vent phone mount. With the center raised brand logo section on the back I have to be pretty exact when I set it up on the mount or it slides a bit. It has taken a tumble numerous times despite the fact that this has been the most rock steady strong magnetic mount I've ever seen and have tried 6 other cases with it with never an issue. In fact, it's more likely to pull the whole mount off the vent than separate, except with this case). Almost 2 months in it's fairly durable against scratches/dings etc, I can see a few faint scuffs on the rubber bumper. The screen protector is another story and looks like crap and it's not like I store it in a purse against keys and a pocket knife or a hedgehog or anything. The corner bumpers were the 2nd thickest that I tried EXCEPT for the S-Pen corner! This was still less than I'd hope for. I know they are stuck between a rock and hard place since many people, especially guys with big thick fingers, complain about S-Pen access, but I'd rather have my phone not shatter and have to work a bit to get my S-Pen out than not (personal preference). Also, as having been dealing with an S-Pen since 2013 with my Note 10.1 2014 edition and my first Note phone- the Note 3, it's not like the S-Pen hasn't gotten easier to get out in general with the assist press. If you have a rough lifestyle with phones like I do and they drop/fall/bang a lot, you most certainly need at least a tempered glass screen protector in place of the built in screen protector this has, or can cross your fingers and hope it cracks and not your phone with less than serious knocks/falls. If you care about the long sides of your phone's screen this type of case is for you. It's a good company with well made products and it's not their fault I just don't care for the looks. It took 1st place out of the many cases I've tried but I'll be the first to admit I'm still looking for The One (that protects AND looks good). And I'm definitely chopping off these port covers. UPDATE: after several months it's going in the trash. Screen protector was so buffed/scratched and corner of case was cracked so I have switched to "Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Cell Phone Case - Ultra Thin Clear Cover with Built-in Anti-Scratch Screen Protector, Full Body Protective Shock Drop Proof Impact Resist Extreme Durable Case, Black/Grey" I couldn't be happier- all the things that annoyed the heck out of me about the unicorn case (look/feel/bulkiness, sliding off my magnetic phone holder, trapping dust/hair/fuzz UNDER the screen protector and annoyingly difficult unnecessary port-covers are not a problem with this cheaper case. The only difference is that the back outer case is not as thick which will only be a problem if my phone has an impact from a hard/sharp object, not a drop. The grip and feel of this case is way better, I can see the nice color of my actual phone, and edges, screen, and corners are equally protected. I did buy a plain black unicorn supcase as an emergency back up but I am WAY happier with this different case. ... show more

  • Best Case for Note 8..
Color: Black/Black
This is by far the best Case for the Note 8 I've used. This was purchased for the wife's note who had the pink with grey. The outer grey was horrible and you can't clean it. Mine is blue with black and other than couple small cracks on bottom corner of the inside plastic piece, it's still going strong. That's the only real issue with this case that the screen protector part is really thin and if you drop your phone enough times, it will crack. We use Ghost Armor on our screens which is the absolute best so no need for the plastic, so I pop it out. Recommended you use your own screen protection and remove the plastic & the glue inside the plastic piece and you'll be happy. The belt clip it comes with is just Too bulky so simply don't use. Easier to slip the phone in my pocket. I'd buy this case again. I just wish I could find it in my blue color so I could replace mine that has a crack in the bottom corners.. I still give it a 10 and recommend for anyone still using this old phone.. 😊 ... show more

  • Good solid protection for Note 8 and alternative to Otter box
Color: Black/Black
Bought one of these cases a few years back for my Nexus 6, which served me well the past 3 years. I dropped a few times on concrete while getting out of a car and the case protected my phone well, with no damage to case or phone so after upgrading to the Samsung Note 8 decided to try this case again. Originally ordered an Otter Box with the Samsung Note but was surprised it didn't come with in the full screen protector which makes you buy a Tempered glass screen protector as well. The Otter box is a heavy case with no full wrap, and I am a little worried even with a tempered glass would not be enough protection and the added weight would have made it hit the ground wit more force. If landing on the case would most likely be protected but if any of the screen made contact the result would most likely not be good. Know with any case it is a matter of luck when the screen makes contact with the ground and the Otter box didn't seem to be the same quality as have seen in the past so decided to go back the the trusted Supercase Unicorn Beetle again Now for my full review will add to this as I get some time with this case, Just put the Supercase Unicorn Beetle full body protection on my phone this morning and initial impressions are very positive. Great unboxing experience, the case was packed well with good instructions on a link and QR code which demos the install of the case on an I-phone. I spend a lot time outside so full protection is important even if it sacrifices a little of the display quality with added glare. The Supercase has a nice clear plastic full wrap which seems to not have too much added glare or rainbow effect, swiping and accessing the screen seems to be as good as using it without the case. The S pen seems to drag a little but works good, but hope it will get better in time as just peeled off the protective coating prior to this review and sometimes these plastic screen protectors take a little time to break in. Know it is not as good as having another layer of tempered glass but as mentioned above my Nexus 6 survived well. Some YouTube reviews showed this case being used while already having a tempered glass screen protector on and had they had some swiping difficulty and rainbow effect on the screen. The case raises up slightly at both ends to help protect the phone when placed face down and has a slight lip on the sides to protect the edge screen while not distracting too much from the curve. It also allows access to swiping for side menu access too. Wireless charging is good too with case on, The Note 8 is a slippery phone and this case helps you to maintain a good grip and control of the phone. I am listing the good and bad below but still a 5 star case as it offers good protection The only bad points for me are with the use of a dock and the holster. With any full wrap case if any moisture gets on screen from rain it can wick between the screen and plastic protector which will need to be removed and fully dried The good Full protection of the phone, the box has a military drop grade test sticker indicating it was tested. Phone with case not too huge, offers a good grip and control of the phone still fits in car holder with case on. No rainbow effect (without use of tempered glass under it) very little to no glare effect Great sensitivity of touch and swipe with edge swipe too Wireless charging good tactile response of side buttons S pen works on screen curved screen still visible camera protected by recessed back (camera seems not affected by case) slimmer/lighter case than Otter box usb-c & head phone jack protected from dirt and moisture by case Openings for speaker/microphone on bottom and camera/phone speaker on top Holster-phone can be placed in any direction in the holster,my Nexus 6 would only go one way. The bad S pen access not as easy access as Otter box and had a slight drag on the new plastic screen protector (may get better in time). if you use the De-X Station phone may have to be removed from the case, e an extension might be a good alternative to place phone in De-X stand. while I like the holster I would watch the clip as it could be broken easily if pulled or gets brittle over time- plus if not paying attention you could put the phone in with screen facing outward. In closing the Supercase Unicorn Beetle case is a very well made case and should offer good protection, I will update this review as I spend more time with this case and phone. Just be careful if you use the holster as with any of them the clip can break or phone pop out if not secured properly. This case is a great alliterative to the Otter box and I am very satisfied with my purchase. ... show more

  • Top notch case and holster.
Color: Black/Black
Have used this exact case for years on personal phones and ordered one each for our entire field team. We are not nice to these, and they tolerate a ridiculous amount of abuse. Comes with built in screen protector and still has good sensitivity for touch screen. Highly recommend this item.

  • Lasted 2 years
Had my case 2 years and now it needs replacing badly. Never a problem with connection holes. Sound button functionality was ok but not great. It withstood dropping and scratching my phone! I think biggest problem over time is the sound button. Overall excellent and no color rub off!
