  • Great kayak
This is a fabulous inflatable kayak!! I bought it for my son's birthday present and he is in love with it. Just don't lost the fins the first day like I did. I already have to replace them, but that's on me. The pump is fast and easy it's a great value and a huge hit all around!!

  • Awesome kayak for the money!
I ordered two of these, one with cover and one without. I rode in one solo and my two kids rode in the other one. The set includes manual pump, but I did not use it. I ordered a battery powered pump that worked awesomely. I would not want to inflate these using the pump! It was easy to assemble and setup. My only problem is that the seat was not very good at holding my weight. So it was quite uncomfortable the first time. After getting a seat that better supported my back, I love it. The kayaks are stable (make sure you install the fins on the bottom else you will have trouble tracking straight in the water!). They hold air and had no leaks! The oars seem to work fine. I was very pleased with these kayaks other than the seat. My kids had no issues with them though! ... show more

  • Really fun
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I hadn't been kayaking in a good amount of years because of the hassle of transporting them, but I really wanted an inflatable so I could start back up again. This one is great. It's really comfortable and roomy. The seats could be more supportive though. It inflated pretty quickly too. I haven't tried it with the canopy yet, but I'm excited too. I also lost a fin for the kayak by accident, and the company sent me one straight away for free. Overall, nothing but good things to say so far. ... show more

  • Bad product
POS had a hole in it right out of the box

  • Less safe, but enticing.
This is apparently a very new model. Web searches reveal no professional reviews and essentially no additional information about it. One of the big box stores has offered it for a while and there are quite a few images posted by customers. Unlike many competing kayaks, this one has only two air chambers. I had thought that one valve is for a floor chamber and that the only other valve is for the rest of the kayak, but that's not quite correct. One is for the floor, but the outer tubes of the floor are bigger than the other floor tubes and serve as the lower part of the sides of the kayak. So, in the event that either chamber deflates, the sides will largely deflate, but there will still be at least some air in them, on the top or the bottom. The dearth of air chambers could be disastrous if one of the two chambers deflates. Never take this thing into alligator territory, never take it further from land than you can easily swim, and never take it further from your pull-out spot than you can easily walk, with or without the kayak. (You don't want to attempt to lug it far through a forest or to attempt to hike out through an impassible swamp.) Always take the patch kit and pump with you on the water, and consider taking a water pump or bailing container. The carry bag is thin, weak and too small, at least if you insist upon using it as a two-person kayak, with two seats and two paddles. If the stock bag is given significant use it will fail. Don't even think of subjecting it to airline luggage handlers. Before making any use of it I immediately sewed continuations of the straps around the bottom of the bag, and sewed on a pack-cloth "bathtub" bottom panel, in hopes that it could be shoved around on rough floors without ripping. That was a waste of time and materials. Don't bother with attempting to make the bag serviceable. After spending a fortune in time improving it, I found that even without one of the paddles and without one of the seats it was still extremely difficult to fit the rest of the kayak stuff in the bag. It's a skinny bag that falls on its side, so it isn't nearly sufficient to armor just the bottom. Baggage handlers would still destroy it and maybe the kayak too. If you want to bring it on airplanes, take it out of the bag and put it alone in a big suitcase. For a car and for carrying it far to a put-in (which in distant cities you might sometimes do), buy a different bag. For the pump, the inflation strip-gauge, a patch kit, and a bailing device, I also sewed a bright orange bag ‒ orange so it won't be forgotten on a river bank somewhere. The stock patch doesn't include glue, which makes me wary of it. Get a better kit. Though sold as a two-person kayak, this boat is too small for use by two adults. With modifications it is fairly suitable for use by a solo paddler: First, add new sticky velcro on the floor in the center of the boat, for the new seat location. (But don't expect that new velcro to stick like the factory velcro. It won't ‒ especially on a hot summer day, when the combination of heat and kayak stretch will create a sticky mess.) The seat straps also need modification (lengthening them so that a solo paddler in the center can attach the straps to the clips on the hull meant for a front paddler). Properly setup for use by a solo adult, this narrow, low and pointy kayak can outshine many more expensive inflatable kayaks in its ability to track well, achieve reasonable speed, and fight wind and currents. The Amazon page doesn't state the weight. Other sites put it at 32 lbs, without mention whether that includes the paddles, etc. That is probably the weight of the full kayak package in its retail box. On my good digital home scale, the the kayak in its stock carry-bag with one stock seat, one paddle and the pump weighs 25 lbs. Add about a pound for my additions to the carry bag, a seat strap, and the kayak floor. Adding a second paddle and a second stock seat would increase weight by ~2.2 lb for the paddle, and ~1.6 lb for the seat. I don't much trust the hull to resist punctures, though some customers say they have scraped over a lot of rocks without problems. One customer reviewer elsewhere hit a submerged tree branch during his second outing and his kayak no longer holds air. The Instruction Guide says that it is "designed for short-distance cruising and beach use only." The Amazon page for this kayak says that it has a 1 year manufacturer warranty, but the Limited Warranty set forth in the Instruction Guide that is enclosed with the kayak says the warranty is only 60 days, and does not apply to: Anyone but the original purchaser; Anything beyond manufacturing defects; Punctures or tears; Accident damage; Damage from improper operation, maintenance or storage; or Damage from environmental forces. The design of the air chambers, and the shape, size, capacity, frills, price and seat attachments of this kayak are very similar to that of the Intex Challenger K2 ‒ so similar that I wouldn't be surprised if they are made in the same factory. The Intex kayak has an essentially identical limited warranty. The Intex is said to weigh 38 lbs, but I doubt that's accurate. It's a toss-up as to which kayak is better. I prefer the more subdued green color scheme of the Intex, but it has only one skeg, so it probably won't track as straight. The Intex Explorer K2 kayak is safer, with separate air chambers for the two side pontoons, and another for the floor chamber, plus a drain hole in the bottom at the rear. It used to be more expensive than the Challenger K2, but now inexplicably cost less on Amazon, and both are currently less than this Sunlite kayak. On the downside, the Explorer K2 has higher sides (catching more wind and making it harder to paddle) and it isn't as streamlined or as fast. If I were paddling in a windy location, or attempting to go upstream in a river (where I could swim or float back downstream), I'd rather be in this Sunlite Chesapeake. Both of my Intex kayaks (I also have a more expensive Intex Excursion Pro K2 model) had terrible inflatable seats that had to be replaced with decent aftermarket seats. That added significant expense to both. I am hopeful that the inflatable seats on this Sunlite kayak will serve adequately. They wrap around one's body a bit, which might make the backrests less prone to collapse. With great effort and some trepidation I have sometimes paddled an Intex Explorer K2 the better part of a mile across open deep water. I'd be much more reluctant to do that in this Sunlite kayak, though it would go faster and the odds of it suddenly popping an air chamber without hitting submerged rocks or branches would be slim. Still, even big waves, wakes or rapids could be disastrous, as there is no drain plug. If you venture far from shore or your take-out spot, at least bring a water pump or a bailing device. (Maybe in an emergency the air pump could serve as a water pump. I haven't tried that, but both air and water are fluids.) ... show more
