    • Stand a little bit farther away than normal when you open the case.

As already mentioned by another reviewer, when I opened up the top of this, the oil used on the sockets emitted a really nasty smell. It made me sneeze, it was so bad. Well, this weekend, I took it outside, and cleaned the 'factory' oil off with carburetor cleaner, and then re-applied a coat of motor-oil. (If you do this, make sure you have the proper personal protective equipment [gloves etc.] to yourself safe from the chemicals.) The sockets looked kind of 'dry' and 'frosty' after they dried off from the solvent. But after the coat of motor oil, the 'sheen' came right back. I was happy to see that the lettering on the sockets remained unaffected by the solvent. I also wiped the case out with some paper towels, and noticed that some of the 'red' from the plastic case came off with the oil. Also, there was a red stain in the bottom of my cleaning pan, which indicates that the original 'factory' oil had reacted adversely with the case, which left me questioning if the smell was from the oil or the case, or the combination. Other than that issue, the case is built tough. It has two black latches on the front of the case, but also it has two additional latches on the side of the case. If you aren't aware of the side latches, a little bit of extra exuberance using the black tabs to remove the top without unlatching the sides will leave you with one or two black tabs in you hands, if you try to use them to pull the case top open. (they snap back on). The sockets and fittings are built tough. I was especially impressed with the Universal Joint, or Knuckle. (you can purchase the universal joint separate if you like). You will know when you pick the case of sockets that there is some real metal in there. I really liked that there is a 'complete set' here including a really good selection of extensions and a universal joint. The case came packed in a box about twice as thick as the case, with some really good packing, so it arrived in fine condition. Considering the 'nasty smelling oil' and red stuff coming off from the case issue, which I would take half a star off for that. But you can't do a 'half star', a "5" is how I feel about the whole package. ... show more

I bought this along with an IR231C to do work on our vehicle. All together over two days I did front struts, ball-joints, sway bar links, lower control arms, and tie rod ends all with this set. I could not find a single fault with the quality of these sockets and I even made my nephew (who is a full time mechanic) jealous because he claimed this set was at least as nice as his similar snap on sockets for a fraction of the price. We put this set through the ringer, and though they are now dirty, they came out otherwise unscathed. One special mention; I usually dont care at all what a set like this has for a case, but this Sunex case is exceptional for what it is. Not only does it securely hold all the sockets and extensions without them rattling, but the front clasps on mine will catch enough just from lightly closing it to prevent accidental spillage of sockets in the event the set is tipped over kicked etc. This saved me from chasing sockets around my garage floor at least twice during that already stressful two day suspension overhaul. Pros: Excellent value Super durable Great warranty Great case Cons: Can be a little hard to read the printed sizes on the sockets, but they are also stamped so it is almost a non-issue. I plan to take white paint and fill then wipe mine to make the stamped numbers easier to read. ... show more

A great socket set that encompasses a wide array of metric sizes. Sockets came oiled and feel very high quality. I'm not a professional mechanics, but I use them quite a bit, they seems extremely solid. I love the etching on them, and the rough material is nice for gripping when your hands are greasy. The case is a nice addition and feels fairly solid, sockets do not move around. I was worried that being so square and not beveled that they would not not fit onto my impact wrench since it's a hog ring style anvil. This was not an issues and they wiggle right on with no problem. Great kit, great price. Seems like they will last a lifetime with no problem. ... show more

I bought this set as I did not have any deep well 1/2in drive metric impact sockets, and my shallow set was lacking on the size range. This set has a very nice selection of sizes. I have been using them for a few weeks now and they are holding up great, barely a sign of use on them. The case is nice, but sadly would not fit in my tool box. I found one of the plastic holders to stand them all up in a row and keep the box under the workbench in case I ever need it. As others have said, the anti rust oil is a little smelly and a pain to clean off. However I will not complain about it as I would rather have oily and new sockets, than dry rusty ones. My only tiny gripe I could have, is I think going down to 9mm is a little too small for a 1/2 drive. I think a better choice in size range would have started at 13mm and went to 36mm. But that is just in my range of use, other people might actually use those smaller sockets. If I need something that small, I use my 3/8 impact and sockets.
