  • The Perfect Chair For My Patio!
Even given the difficulty I had putting it together, I am giving this chair a 5-star rating. It's not the CHAIR'S fault I had assembly issues. The shipping box is very sturdy and attractive (if a box can be called "attractive"); however, it is almost impossible to open - unless you don't care about keeping it in order to return the chair. I found the instructions to be clear and straightforward, although I did have to waiver from them a couple of times in order to get things to go together. Both times I called the Suncast "help" number, I experienced a long hold time and ended up figuring out the solutions for myself. My advice: Be VERY careful when tightening the "easy bolts" - particularly when attaching the back of the chair to the sides!! I discovered this the hard way, when I had to remove the back in order to figure out why the seat wouldn't slide forward. As for said seat: It is difficult to slide forward. Pushing from the back helps somewhat; however, I probably won't be using that feature, as I've purchased the larger one-piece cushion that won't fit into that storage area. Note: We've had quite a bit of rain, and the storage area does stay dry - in spite of not being under cover. This club chair does not offer comfortable seating (at least for older bones) without cushions of some sort. It is a perfect fit for my 5' 4" height; however it may not be as comfortable for someone taller. Some reviewers have stated a dissatisfaction with the design. It isn't a "wicker" chair. It's a plastic chair, stamped to resemble wicker. And, I think that Suncast has done a very good job with not only its design, but its attention to molding. There is virtually NO "flash" (plastic injection overflow/leakage) on any of the parts. This, by itself, shows close attention to quality control. Bottom Line: This Suncast Club Chair is a GREAT addition to my patio. I'll finally be able to enjoy my backyard. ... show more

  • Well designed, comfortable, sturdy, weather resistant, practical, and not bad looking. Very happy.
Of all the expensive patio furniture we've owned, the most comfortable chairs in our yard for lounging have always been the cheap plastic Adirondacks from the hardware store. If you agree with this sentiment but want something nicer than that for your patio that's still weather-resistant, you will probably love these Suncast chairs. They look classier and are much more heavy duty than the Adirondacks, but they're also comfortable and low-maintenance. This furniture is a great solution for our particular problem. We live in Southern California, with a big concrete slab patio with only a pergola for shade. We can sit outside year round - and so does our furniture. We live in the city, and black filth accumulates on everything out there. On the rare occasion we have rain, our stuff gets wet. The rest of the year, the sun beats down on it. We are far too lazy to pull our cushions out of the garage every time we want to sit down, and to put them back again when we go inside. The result was that the cushions on our nice metal patio set wore out very quickly and were expensive to replace. And everything was so dirty that every time I went out there, I'd have to spend half an hour cleaning everything before we could sit down. On top of that, my husband complained that the fancy metal patio set was - in spite of all the cushions - uncomfortable. So I searched far and wide for something comfortable that could be quickly wiped down and had some kind of rain-proof cushion storage. After a lot of searching, the Suncast Elements furniture was the only real option I could find. At first I was wary because of the reviews that said it was hard to put together. I can clarify that - the instructions say all you need is a screwdriver, but you really need a drill or power driver. While most of the chair goes together easily by hand, there are several small metal screws. For some reason, Suncast didn't pre-drill the holes for them. It takes seconds with a power tool, but if you're just trying to use a screwdriver and the screw to poke a hole into the heavy-duty plastic (which is what the instructions suggest), you're going to be a very angry, frustrated person with a sore wrist. Aside from that, though, I'm really impressed with the way the whole thing was designed. With a power tool, it's very quick and simple to put together. All the hardware is hidden - they provide removable plastic panels that snap in to hide the few bolts that would otherwise be visible. It comes with a big plastic hex screwdriver designed for those bolts, and there's a slot inside the storage area of the chair where you can stow the screwdriver for future use. The instructions say you may need to tighten the bolts periodically. I do wonder if tightening them repeatedly over time will wear down the holes so that the tightening eventually becomes ineffective. Time will tell. But for that reason, it's probably not a good idea to over-tighten the bolts when you put it together. Some reviewers said they couldn't get the seat/storage lid open after they assembled it. I didn't have that problem, but the seat is not on a hinge so that that it just lifts up. It's designed so that you have to slide it toward you an inch or so and then lift it up. That turned out to be a plus, because I can clamp the lid down when I stuff my oversize cushions in there. Some reviewers have said the storage inside isn't weatherproof, and I saw that someone used caulk to make the bottom watertight. We don't have extreme weather where I live, so I don't really need a watertight bottom. We just had a few days of rain, and mine all stayed dry inside. As for comfort - These are fairly large chairs (bigger than a dining chair). I'm 5'6", and when I lean all the way back in it, I can't put my foot completely flat on the ground. (I wish Suncast made ottomans for these.) It's great for my husband, who is 6'2". They're angled so that the back of the seat sits a bit lower than the front, which creates a comfortable angle for sitting. There's good back and thigh support, and the arms are at a good height. There was a reviewer who went to the trouble of giving exact seat dimensions (19x21) and a link to cushions that will work. The right size cushions are hard to find. "Standard" size wicker set cushions are a little too small, and deep seat patio cushions are too big. I found some inexpensive high back chair cushions at Big Lots that fit ok but are a little too deep. If I were a better seamstress I'd cut them into 2 pieces and make them an inch or two shorter, and they'd be perfect. But they look ok, and they (just barely) fit onto the storage bottom if I really stuff them in there, so I think I'll leave them as-is for now. As for appearance - I think they look pretty nice for molded plastic, and I like that they don't have those wicker crevices where dirt can collect. With chair pads and a few patio decorations, they're not going to embarrass me when we have company. But make no mistake - they're not going to fool anyone into thinking they're real wicker. A few reviewers have commented that they're kind of expensive for plastic chairs. I bought the whole patio set of these (coffee table, loveseat, end tables), and it's true that for $500 you can buy a patio set that isn't made of plastic. But with an uncovered patio, I decided it was more pleasant to sit on comfortable plastic furniture with clean cushions than on uncomfortable metal furniture with faded, dirty, mildewy cushions. People with covered or enclosed patios may have better options, but for our set of needs, I don't think I could have made a better choice. ... show more

It's a wonderful chair. I'm getting another for the back deck. It's a wood grain looking plastic. I thought plastic eww but it's fantastic. Can stay out in the weather and still looks good... And with storage!
