  • A Quality Saxophone that Helps Learning - A Quality Saxophone that Helps Learning -
Instrument Key: E Flat Color: Gold
. I began a personal quest to find a family of musical instruments that did not require electricity and would challenge me in new ways. My quest is as therapeutic as it is an exercise to keep sharp in my vocation. My journey started with brass instruments. After having excellent experiences with other instruments from this manufacturer, Strich, I first acquired both a trumpet and a trombone. The quality was remarkable for the price, and the CNC precision was obvious throughout the construction. What I discovered, however, is that I am apparently not a brass cat. Whaaah-whaaaaaaaa (that was about all the sound I could make from it, which was appropriate to my realization) That realization led me back to an earlier chapter of my musical life. There was an instrument that I did take to well out of necessity. Many years ago, when the music of the Marshall Tucker Band was everywhere, I remember hearing someone say, "If only we had a real flute for those songs." I decided to learn the flute parts myself, and to my surprise I took to the instrument quite naturally. After the popularity of those songs faded and there was little call for flute in the beach clubs where I was gigging, the instrument was eventually retired. That experience pointed me toward the woodwind family, and specifically toward the saxophone. Maybe I had the natural embouchure for reed instruments as well. Based on my previous experience with the Strich company's brass instruments, I ordered both the alto and tenor versions of this saxophone. The complete packages arrived with everything needed to begin immediately, making the process easy and inviting. What impressed me most is that this instrument avoids one of the biggest problems found with many student budget level instruments. Student instruments can be a real bear to actually play. Too often, beginner instruments are actually harder to play. The student spends as much time fighting mechanical limitations, poor response, and inconsistent construction as they do learning music. That creates unnecessary frustration and can discourage talented players before they have a chance to develop. This saxophone feels different. It feels expensive. The CNC precision is evident throughout the instrument. The keywork feels consistent, the action is responsive, and the overall fit and finish are far better than I expected at this price level. Notes speak easily, intonation is respectable, and the horn encourages practice rather than resisting it. I can sustain notes! I'm still getting the hang of reed placement and all that goes with that. However, the results are quite pleasing. The ergonomics are particularly friendly for a developing player, making longer practice sessions more enjoyable and less fatiguing. Such a difference! The included accessories are also well chosen. Instead of receiving a bare instrument and immediately needing additional purchases, the complete kit provides a practical starting point for a new player. Most importantly, this saxophone has confirmed that the woodwind family was the right choice for my musical exploration. It has been rewarding, enjoyable, and genuinely inspiring to play. To reach a bottom line, this is an exceptionally well made student value saxophone that performs beyond its price category. Rather than creating obstacles for the player, it helps facilitate learning, which is exactly what a beginner instrument should do. The quality of the entire package makes it an outstanding value for anyone beginning their journey into the world of saxophone. ... show more

  • Great saxophone! Great saxophone!
Instrument Key: E Flat Color: Gold
This saxophone is pretty great for a beginner like myself. I ordered this in the gold/brass color and do wish I had gotten it in the black w/gold but c'est la vie! I still like it. I just knew that as soon as I placed it against my lips that some beautiful tunes identical to jazz musician Charlie "Bird" Parker would flow from it, bringing a tear to the grumpiest mans eye and lull an insomniac to sleep... Instead, it sounded akin to Fran Drescher's laugh or perhaps a dying bird. Haha! I'm hoping that with practice and once I start my lessons I'll get better. I don't blame Saxy though (yes that's what I named my saxophone), as he is built well and his buttons move with ease and don't stick. The price seems to be on par with others I've priced of similar quality. I love that he comes with so many accessories, including a stand! Although the stand I received isn't very sturdy as the screw know to tighten it in place, does not tighten very much at all. The included reeds do seem to be lower quality than others I found at the music store but they are pretty inexpensive to replace that it's not a big deal to me. The case, however, is very nice with a very soft interior which also secures every part of yhe saxophone in place (including the accessories, with the exception of the stand). Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Great beginner sax option! Great beginner sax option!
Instrument Key: E Flat Color: Black
I’ve always wanted a saxophone for my recording studio for jams (a few of is play). This handsome Stritch Alto saxophone arrived a couple weeks ago and I’ve been playing it nearly every jam. Putting the sax together was pretty easy, and went smoothly. The mouthpiece is a bit cheap feeling, but works and is easily upgraded if necessary, but honestly not an issue for me. A more experienced sax player might need something else. The sound of the instrument is warm and pleasant, and soon after setting it up I was making tones. I noticed a “bleating” sound on the lowest notes which I’m haven’t experienced before, and my buddy said it might be reed. What I love about this sax is that it comes with nearly everything you need to get started. Extra reeds, a tuner, polishing cloth, cotton gloves, cleaning supplies and a nice strap. One thing missing was cork wax, which I definitely needed to get the mouthpiece on. This is really well made for the pricepoint this is at. It is not quite the quality level of some saxophones I’ve used, but is certainly no slouch either. The engraving is well done, all keys work and make a solid connection and are quiet. Overall it’s an impressive instrument for the cost. ... show more

  • Great beginner sax
Instrument Key: E Flat Color: Gold
I am a big fan of Strich and their products. I have had only good experiences with this brand and this one was another hit! Years ago, I played the flute and my friend played the sax. Since they have the same key arrangement, it was easy enough to figure out each other's instruments. As I've gotten older, I have enjoyed trying out and learning new instruments. I was hoping to use this beginner's sax to polish up my musical skills. The sax looks and sounds great! The construction and quality are really nice and the sax feels good to hold and play. The accessories are super helpful and great to have. The carrying/storage case is super useful for protecting your instrument while not in use or when transporting it. The keys operate smoothly and don't stick. I appreciate the cleaning accessories and instruction booklet. Pleasant to play and this is a great choice for any beginner or someone looking to try out something new. Overall, a great value from Strich. ... show more

  • Customer Support Difficult
Instrument Key: E Flat Color: Gold
Contacted Customer Support and they want me to send the item back. This is is my first experience with Amazon that is unsatisfactory. Cork on Neck too thick for mouthpiece. G# Key hesitates on pressing. Can not reach any note below Low C. Can not find how to register or if there is a Warrantee. Can not contact Seller. Agent was VERY difficult to understand due to accent. All I received was tons of "so sorry for inconvenience". Will take Instrument to repair shop at my expense. ... show more

  • Cheap tenor Cheap tenor
This tenor sax is constructed of thin brass which doesn't have a lot of resonance. For a student just starting out, it's not a big deal. The key adjustment is poorly set up out of the box, and the lower pads are tilted so they do not close fully, making the instrument unplayable across half the range. This requires about $300+ of work at the tech, so if you take that into consideration combined with the cost of the new instrument, it probably makes sense to buy a used instrument from a reputable brand. Also, the horn came with a dent in the body at the bell brace, presumably from shipping, and the hull bracing is lifting due to weak or defective solder. The included stand is a nice thought, but it's too narrow so it will only fit an alto sax. Not a great oversight if you're going so far as to include a stand in the cost. The rest of the accessories are alright, but you'll want to invest in a better mouthpiece and reeds to make the instrument easier to play. Overall, the instrument was a miss for me, but it's not so bad for beginners if you pay a tech to set it up. ... show more

  • Easy transition from trumpet
Instrument Key: E Flat Color: Gold
As a beginner player coming from trumpet as my first instrument, this alto saxophone has actually been a really fun transition for me. Some of the breathing control and reading music skills definitely carried over, but the sax still feels like learning a whole new style of playing. The alto compared to a tenor in terms of the size and pitch felt a little less intimidating for learning. The alto has a bright, smooth sound that’s been enjoyable to practice with as a beginner. I was honestly a little nervous starting my second band instrument, but this kit made it easy to jump in and start practicing right away. The keys feel comfortable, it produces a nice sound for a beginner instrument, and everything I needed was included so I wasn’t immediately shopping for extra accessories. I also appreciate that it didn’t feel too overwhelming to set up or use. For someone still learning embouchure and finger positioning, it’s been encouraging to practice on. The case and accessories have been convenient too, and overall it feels like a solid value for getting started with a saxophone. ... show more

  • This Is A Great Quality Made Brass Saxophone This Is A Great Quality Made Brass Saxophone
Instrument Key: E Flat Color: Gold
What a well-made well-crafted saxophone this is. It's solid brass and all the keys are smooth nothing sticks. I wanted to start learning to play the saxophone I played drums and I thought let me learn another instrument and I've always loved the sound of a saxophone so that's why I got one. It comes with everything you could possibly need to start playing and learning Not only do you get the saxophone itself which is again well crafted just beautiful etching on on it it's easy to hold but it also comes with a case the reeds the mouthpiece of course polishing towels and even a pair of white gloves and most importantly an electronic tuner that's easy to use. The case itself is super nice the saxophone fits nicely inside it's all padded it's got a nice look to it easy to carry it's a zip up and it's very sturdy. It even comes with some pamphlets on some basic instructions for a beginner like me on how to learn basic notes and it's just a wonderful how to get started little manual. Again I'm at a saxophone player but I just want to learn in my opinion and I've been a musician for years this is an awesome starter kit well worth the value especially for what I've seen on the market and you get so much more with this besides just the the saxophone which is awesome in itself but all the add-ons you get the stand as well and the case and the electric tuner I would definitely recommend it especially for a beginner like myself. ... show more
