Frequently asked questions

The Yamaha YTS-62 III Professional Tenor Saxophone is renowned for its highly accurate intonation, comfortable playability, and rich warm tone. Featuring a gold lacquer finish and a 2-piece bell for enhanced resonance and projection, this saxophone also boasts an improved neck design for a more responsive and flexible performance. It's equipped with silicone-treated leather pads for durability and a smooth key action, making it a favorite among advanced and professional players.

While the Yamaha YTS-62 III is designed with features that appeal to advanced and professional players, such as its precise intonation and rich sound quality, it might not be the first choice for absolute beginners due to its price and complexity. Beginners may benefit from starting on a student model which is specifically designed to be more forgiving and easier to play as they develop their skills. However, for students committed to pursuing the saxophone seriously or those transitioning to intermediate level, the YTS-62 III could be a worthwhile investment.

Absolutely, the Yamaha YTS-62 III Professional Tenor Saxophone is a versatile instrument that can be used across a variety of music genres. Its warm tone, precise intonation, and powerful projection make it suitable for jazz, classical, blues, and contemporary music. The saxophone's responsive design allows musicians to easily adapt their playing style to suit the genre, making it a popular choice among professionals.

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Yamaha YTS-62 III saxophone, regular maintenance is essential. This includes regularly cleaning the inside of the saxophone with a swab after each use to remove moisture, cleaning the mouthpiece with warm water and mild detergent weekly, checking and replacing pads as necessary, and occasionally adjusting the key mechanisms to keep the action smooth. It's also important to handle the saxophone with care, especially when assembling or disassembling it, and to store it in its case when not in use to protect it from dust and damage.

  • The Yamaha sax BLEW ME AWAY with sound quality (case is great too!)
I was debating whether to get a used Selmer Mark VI or a new Yamaha, and boy am I glad I went with this Sax. First, it's gorgeous! Seond, it was well packed and shipped, and the case if both beautiful and rugged. When I strapped it up and played, and low notes vibrated the core of my fingers! The sounds is SO resonant, full, deep, and beautiful, I can't imaging anything else sounded any better. This one is a no brainer: MUST BUY!! Fantastic! ... show more

  • Aw Man! Beautiful!
Brought it in off the porch in 20 degree temps, opened box, strapped it on played effortlessly from low b-flat all the way up to altissimo (no joke). Played overtones right on. Balanced, responsive, sure footed very instinctive bounce. Growls, purrs, sings in tune. Using D’Addario jazz selects mouthpiece but will eventually tryout the Yamaha 4C this kit came with a little later. Shouldn’t have waited so many years to upgrade from my China-sax but it is definitely worth the price of admission. ... show more

  • Experience the "Joy of playing the sax".
There isn't anything I dislike about the sax. I like the tonal quality, and the ease of playing. While not being a professional saxophonist, after purchasing my first sax, which was only several months prior, I wish I had began many years earlier.

  • but it arrived just fine. Typical Yamaha quality
I was a little leary about buying an instrument online, but it arrived just fine. Typical Yamaha quality, so it has been great. My middle school daughter plays saxophone, and she outgrew her beginner instrument. This one is worth the money.

  • Very good sax
I was hoping to get the sound I wished for, unfortunately besides the fact that the sax went to the shop for adjusting and a possible leak (don't know yet), the sound tone is not as pleasant as the Mark VI, and no it's not the mouthpiece. The Yamaha mouthpiece taken from the 62 and put on mark VI produces a superb sound. Initially I thought it was me producing the weird noise, however after my instructor with over 30y experience had the same issues, I'm now reconsidering purchasing a Yamaha sax... Update: Apparently the sax got out of shape during shipping, got fixed quickly in the shop now plays awesome! Got this from another Yamaha dealer for 3k! ... show more

  • A great saxophone at a reasonable price
I bought a Yamaha YTS-62III at a local store, where I was able to try it out before purchase. I had previously tried two other brands of tenor sax at another store. The Yamaha sounded MUCH better and was easier to play. The Yamaha produces a beautiful warm tone with the supplied Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. This is my first tenor sax; I previously played alto and soprano. It was very easy to pick up this tenor sax and play well right away. It's obviously very high quality and well-made. I couldn't be happier with it. My impression is that this horn is less expensive than comparable saxophones of other brands. ... show more

The YTS-62 is a beautiful saxophone. For the price i paid (€2550) i reckon it was fantastic value. Have played many other tenor sax's, including the Selmar Mark 6, and the YTS comes out on top. Of course we all have different opinions, but the tone, ease of play, and the workmanship of the YTS 62 is very hard to beat. I'll never sell it. ... show more
