    • An alternate album just as good as the original.
PJ is on fire here just as she was with the normal album. In this case the album even has more to offer with the exclusion of Thom in the tracks, as it really gives the vibe of an indie garage record yet still with high-quality recording. I'd say it's one of her best demo records, and everybody should give it a try. The tracks like the others aren't too terrible different, but in this case her voice and the accompaniment or recording quality is an alternate world that I sometimes prefer over the original. Definitely a huge recommendation for fans of this record. ... show more

Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea is one of PJ Harvey’s best recordings. The demos on this are outstanding and have much more emotional impact than the final release and are as close to the feeling of a live recording that she’s ever done. Some songs are even better than the final released version (We float, and The Mess We’re In (I hated the original Thom Yorke vocal in this, but love his work with Radiohead). I grew up in New York City so the songs have a special resonance to me. The versions of Kamikaze and The Whores Hustle and Hustlers Whore are raw and intense. ... show more
