These plates definitely don't disappoint when it comes to quality. As soon as I took them out of the box, I could feel their solid heft and thickness - the kind of sturdy construction that just screams long-lasting durability. I really appreciate little thoughtful details like that. Now, the color description lists them as matte black, but in person, they have more of a dark brownish-grayish tone going on. Not a true flat black. The product photos do a good job representing the actual shade though, so no surprises there. We've had these plates in rotation for a few days now, and they've handled the microwave and dishwasher like champs. No issues whatsoever. I'm confident these sturdy pieces will hold up beautifully for years to come. Overall, I'm really pleased with the quality and design. These are really nice plates that instantly elevate the look of whatever you're eating. They're not quite as big or deep as what I would consider a true pasta bowl/plate, but they definitely have a nice edge to keep your food in place and would be appropriate for something saucy or liquid-y. They fit well in the dishwasher and are sturdy and durable. The matte finish is very pretty and makes them look expensive. The only thing to point out is that they're definitely not a true black - more of a brownish-black, with a touch of gray in it. I took a photo with them on top of our dinner plates which are a true matte black in a similar material, and you can see the difference. But they're quite nice regardless! ... show more

These plates are well made and pretty thick, meaning sturdy. I like the size which is just right for the amount of food I typically eat, no need for two plates or having an oversized one on the table. The one thing I don't like as much is the color: I chose black-matte. It doesn't look like black but more of a boring brown. I wish I had chosen blue instead, oh well. The plates have a very simple design, but that is what we wanted. I would not say I feel deceived about the title saying black when the pictures show they are clearly gray. You can see some sample pics on hot it looks with some fruit it looks nice and although they are not intended to be sued like that it would also work nice. We do like, as others say, that it's not totally flat, so it can hold some food that is juicy without worrying too much it would spill. They are sturdy, maybe a little bit heavier than a standard plate but not as much. ... show more

I like the plates and they were a gift, but the bottom one was broken, so now I have to have them pack them back up so I can return and get another set. The packaging was aweful. This is a pretty nice set of serving dishes that can be used for every day use or for those special occasions. The color is a nice blend while having a nice pattern to them. The surface is well glazed making them easy to clean and they take cutting well without scratching. The size is not much larger than a traditional dinner plate so these aren't meant to be a serving platter but can hold a good amount of food on them. ... show more
