  • A great big shoutout
Size: 1 Gallon
To the lady that grumpely told me to use 48fl oz for a 16 sqft bench top. This is 80 fl oz and its woefully under the amount I needed. Not even mixing the remainder of my full gallon in an absolute panic was enough to cover my piece. None of the calculators were even close to correct. Thanks for ruining 2 months of work stonecoat. Update: I called customer service and the next person I spoke with did a much better job of explaining things to me and helped me get my bench set straight. I'm much more happy with the end result though it took a huge amount of product to thoroughly cover the area required. My bench deals with a lot of direct heat for extended periods of time. I did test this by applying 700 degrees F for about a minute and the product DID crack. This is outside of what it's rated for so the limit of 400 appears to be correct. So I'll need to treat it with care. ... show more

  • Worth it to go namebrand. Order from them on Prime to save $
Size: 1/2 Gallon Kit
My first EVER resin pour was for my bathroom countertop. Yup. It turned out really good! I'm no expert and I'm certainly not gonna choose this as a hobby (it's an expensive hobby) but for a nice DIY project that is practical (we were desperate for a new countertop) and relatively inexpensive if you compare it to getting say a granite countertop: worth it! I 100% felt it was important to go with a trusted brand as far as the resin goes. I explored Stone Coat's website (I suggest you check it out yourself) where they have decent "here's how" videos and even pre-assembled kits so you say "I want this look" and they say "here's everything you need to get that look." I started with one of those pre-assembled kits as a template.... then ordered everything I needed on Amazon because Stone Coat's website charges you shipping and I could get the same stuff Prime Free Shipping ;) This seriously saved me a good chunk of change. I also didn't worry too much about brand name with things like the tools and pigments... those you can shop around a bit on Amazon (read reviews) and find the right colors for your project for a reasonable price. CURE TIME: I deliberately timed this project with an upcoming vacation so that we would LEAVE IT ALONE for two weeks. The bottle says to leave it alone for at least 3 days but that it's not fully cured for a month. In other words: it could still get a good gouge or scratch if you aren't careful but you can go ahead and use the thing after three days. We installed it after the two week no-touchy cure time and so far have had no real problems with normal day to day use. TECHNICAL STUFF: *Did it bubble? Of course. All resin does. Pop it with a heat gun. *Was it fumey? Not really. I went full blown respirator, goggles, gloves, etc and towards the end I had ditched a lot of those things and just worked in a well ventilated area. Everyone has different sensitivities so I do recommend being cautious if you have had problems with fumes in the past, but for me it was no biggy. GLOVES are mandatory though. Don't get this stuff on your skin and have nail polish remover handy to clean up any oopses. *Mixing: Part A is nice and thick. Part B is runny and it is easy to over pour because of that. So pour your measurements into SEPERATE containers then add together. That way if you "sploosh" a bit on B you can add a little A to keep everything even. I mixed by hand (even though I bought one of those paddle mixers) with a popsicle stick and it honestly wasn't that hard to do. Mix until you stop seeing the "streaks" of opaque. It will look clear and it will start to warm up even if it sits to long so work quickly. You NEED to dial in your base color if you are doing that marbled look like I did. I didn't get enough of the white base in on my initial pour and it looked like crap. The beauty though is you just mix more and pour more til it looks right. *How much do I need? Stone Coat's website has a calculation tool, and I'm sure a simple google search would yield a similar thing. But in general the 1/2 gallon is for a bathroom countertop. Gallon for a Kitchen countertop. Use the calculation tool. I ended up having leftover.... which I'm considering making a backsplash out of. *Can I store the leftovers? The mixed stuff? No. That's gonna get super hot then harden. That's trash now. Pour it on a scrap piece of wood and make art with it. The stuff that's still in bottles can be stored for like a month but gets bad as it goes. Plus the bottles tend to seal shut cuz the whole process is just so dang messy. (Tarps are your best friend) I hope this little run down helps. Definitely happy with the brand and highly recommend you check out their website. And since they also sell on Amazon.... save yourself some shipping and order here. ... show more

  • Great product
Size: 1 Gallon
I have used several different kinds of epoxies. I love this one. Easy to use. Hardens up like it supposed to. I just recommend you stir very well and don’t scrape the sides of your containers. If you use as directed this is a beautiful product and works really well. I would totally recommend this one. ... show more

  • Works like it's supposed to
Size: 1 Gallon
Great value!!! I'm going to get real here. If you read the descriptions, watch the videos, or look at the success pictures, it's possible to get the idea that this is some sort of miracle-working substance that will give you perfect imitation stone counters. And if you happen to be a professional with as much experience as the people in those videos, it probably will! It's a great product! Most likely, though, if you're here reading this review, you're a lot like me. I'm a beginning DIYer with much more enthusiasm than expertise, but I had a 1990s kitchen that included pink laminate counters, and a full renovation isn't in my budget right now, but I still desperately wanted a change. So I did my research, watched all the videos, borrowed a torch from a friend, and dove in. The marble look was never my dream anyway, plus that looked like it was going to take a fair bit of epoxy (which is much lower cost than installing new counters, but also isn't exactly what I'd call "cheap"). So I painted my counters gray (trying to dab in some varied shading for what I like to call a "concrete-inspired" look) and then did a clear pour coat of epoxy over them. Does it look as professional and as flawless as in the videos? No, of course not! In fact, it's a good thing I wanted a matte finish anyway, because there were 1 or 2 little places I had to sand out and start over because it didn't harden. Overall, I did a good job measuring & mixing, but apparently there must have been a little pocket I missed. If I had planned to leave it glossy, it would have looked awful unless I started over with that whole section of countertop, but matte is much better at hiding imperfections. Sanding to a matte finish helped with the bubbles I missed with the torch, too. Do be careful if you want to do that, though. They warn about being super careful if you have squared off edges, and they're right! I have a couple spots I burned through, and you can see that black line peek through for a couple inches on the right angle there at the edge of the counter. So would I do it again? Absolutely!!! I've gotten TONS of compliments on my "new" kitchen. And the counters have been holding up very well for several months now. Do I recommend you do it? Well, that depends entirely on what your expectations are for the project. Be realistic. And LISTEN TO ALL THE ADVICE OF THE EXPERTS!!!! And then if you decide you want epoxy, this is a great product to use! ... show more
