  • Beautiful workmanship. Plays in tune. Love it.
Style: Xylophone curved
The media could not be loaded. There are few things in the toy world that drive me as batty as a glockenspiel that hasn't been tuned properly. Like- it's so frustrating to me. So when I find one like this one, I am even more endeared to it than I might other-wise be because it's so important for little ones to hear pitches properly. In addition to being in tune to itself (which is the least I ask of a musical toy, bare minimum), it is also properly tuned to "concert A", so it will be compatible with other musical instruments you may wish to use with it. I took a picture with this xylophone and my Orff soprano glockenspiel to give an idea of this toy's scale. I really love it. I've been trained in Orff education, have a degree in music, and I homeschool my kids. So I have a bit of experience with what to look for in a musical toy. This one checks the boxes well. I think quality toys like this are very good for our tiny children to have- as wonderful and good to have quality like this one as it is detrimental to have some of the junky ones out there. The felt padding is great, I shared a close-up picture of that detail because you don't see that kind of quality in most musical toys. I also love the mallets- they're solid hardwood. The colors are bright and fun. I also like the little music book that comes with it. It doesn't have the music staff or rhythm, just colored letter dots, but I think that's a great place to start for tiny children in the pre-reading phase. This little glockenspiel easily gets 5* from me. It's a great price too! ... show more

  • Such a fun musical toy—even adults can get into it!
Style: Xylophone flat
I'm not ashamed to say I thoroughly enjoyed testing out this xylophone for kids! Unlike many other musical instrument toys, this one is actually tuned very well (was curious, so I tested it with my tuning app on my iPhone, and it read pretty spot-on). Obviously it takes a more sensitive touch to get a better sound quality, but even if your toddler is just banging away on it, it sounds better than most toys like this! I love that it comes with two wooden mallets, too. The little song book that's included is awesome too! I tested out every song (including "Baby Shark"), and with the exception of a questionable note in one song, they all sounded great when played. Toddlers will love making fun, chaotic music with this xylophone, and older kids who can follow the written color-coded notes will get plenty of enjoyment out of it too. Though it's elementary, the instrument and song book make for a great introduction to reading and creating music. I can't recommend this xylophone toy highly enough! ... show more

  • Perfect educational toy for preschool-aged musicians
Style: Xylophone curved
My 3-year-old daughter absolutely loves this xylophone. She told me she's "been wanting a xylophone for two years" and she's been playing with it several times every day. If we're being completely honest, I've been having a lot of fun with it, too! The xylophone itself is about ten inches long with 8 wooden bars. I'm not musically gifted enough to say how accurate the musical pitches are, but they're definitely good enough for playing simple tunes. (For what it's worth, we've noticed that the musical quality is better if you hit the bars very gently; if a child bangs the sticks on the xylophone, it just sounds like wood on wood) The xylophone comes with two wooden mallets and a songbook with color-coded notes so that budding musicians can learn to play songs long before they've learned to read music. This is definitely a good pick if you're a parent who wants to prioritize early music education! I also appreciate that the cardboard packaging is pretty sturdy. We've been able to continue keeping the xylophone in its box, which helps keep our toy area a little tidier. ... show more

  • Really fun, well-made
Style: Xylophone flat
This item arrived in a standard box with a picture of the contents inside. It wasn’t packed very well but no issues or damage to the toy. The item is exactly as pictured, no surprises. It has good weight to it and all the keys seem well-tuned. The mallets are a good size- okay enough for me to play or for my child to hold. The colors are vibrant and the songbook is super easy (and fun) to follow. It’s a great addition to the set. I also like that the keys are painted with non-toxic paint since my 5-month old loves everything in his mouth lol overall, great product, very engaging and well made. I would recommend! ... show more

  • Well made and notes have a good tone
Style: Xylophone flat
Pros: It's a good size; my kids ages 4, 7, and 10, all like using it. The notes have a good tone. The notes are clearly labeled and etched into the metal, so they won't wear off. The little music book is easy to use and contains songs familiar to kids. Cons: My kids really like it, and the sound it makes really carries in our house, so I had to make a rule about no playing the xylophone before everyone's awake in the morning. My kids really like it, so we've had to break up several fights and arguments about who was using it first. A great first instrument for little kids, and even for bigger kids. A good way to learn and practice music notes. ... show more

  • Great toy
Style: Xylophone flat
This xylophone had been a hit with my toddlers! My kids are younger than the suggested age range of the toy, but they love to play with it and hear all the sounds. The notes are clear and sounds wonderful. Minus one star for some of the errors in the music song book that comes along with the xylophone. There are a few songs where the note is incorrect. So if you're giving this to your kids to play along, definitely play though it once so you can make corrections in the book. ... show more

  • It’s actually tuned!!
Style: Xylophone curved
So many xylophones are tinny awful garbage of musical instruments and are more just a way for kids to have fun making noise. This is not that. It has a decent sound for the size, is tuned to a C major scale and is even labeled accordingly. This is an actual instrument, but it can still take a beating. This is great for bluey games of ‘magic xylophone’ and to introduce some music/sound fundamentals- like names of notes, scales, how pitch is often determined by length/size of an instrument and how sound is fundamentally vibration. You can actually play tunes on this! You can just let a toddler bang away at it too- but it won’t be nearly as grating sense it’s actually in tune. I love this thing and promptly chucked our other xylophones in the bin. ... show more
