Features

  • ADJUSTABLE WRENCHES AND SCREWDRIVERS ARE REQUIRED FOR ASSEMBLY. Step N Tilt is fast and easy to use. Simply step and tilt. This patented lawn aerator makes core aeration easy and enjoyable for do-it-yourselfers and professional landscapers. The tilting motion is easier on your shoulders and backs. Its larger stepping surface improves operator comfort.
  • Step 'N Tilt is designed for operators between 4-feet and 6-feet 5-inches tall. Recommended minimum operator weight to use one set and two sets of tines are 80lbs and 150lbs, respectively. Please begin by using one set of tines only regardless of your weight. You may use two sets of tines after you have gained enough experience and if you weigh more than 150lbs.
  • Please aerate one day after at least one inch of rain or irrigation. If you have a sprinkler system, each sprinkler zone will need to run for about 60 minutes. In other words, the soil must be moist to a depth of about 4 inches. Question: Why must I wait one day? Answer: Because it takes time for water to be absorbed into the soil, particularly clay soil. For use in areas with grass only; tines may clog if used in bare soil.
  • Step N Tilt is designed for all kinds of soil, including heavy clay soil - make sure the soil is moist but not too wet. If the tines are unable to penetrate the ground and clogging, the soil is too dry. The soil is too wet if the tines can penetrate the ground easily but does not produce any soil core please wait one day before aerating again. A soil core remover is included. The aerator tines are case-hardened for extra durability. The tines may be sharpened or replaced when worn.
  • Step 'N Tilt is recommended for aerating small yards or areas not accessible by motorized lawn aerators. It can be used to aerate large yards but will require significantly longer time and effort than a motorized lawn aerator. The tines will create 3.4" deep, 0.79" diameter holes in the ground.
  • This unit comes with an optional soil core container. The soil core container allows you to collect soil cores during lawn aeration and deposit the cores in other areas. Its purpose is to improve the ground unevenness and repair ruts of your yard without killing the grass. U.S. Patent 8714275, U.S. Patent 11147202, U.S. Patent D1027582, UK Design Number 6152191, and EU Community Design Number 00.

Description

Differences between version 4 and version 3: Step ‘N Tilt version 4 comes with aerator tines that are electro-zinc plated whereas version 3 comes with tines that are powder coated. In addition, the aerator tines of version 4 have a slightly different shape than those of version 3. This unit comes with an optional soil core container. The soil core container allows you to collect soil cores during lawn aeration. Its primary purpose is to improve the ground level or drainage of your yard without killing the grass. By collecting soil cores from areas that are high and disposing the soil cores to areas that are low, you will gradually improve the ground level or drainage of your lawn over a period of several aeration seasons. The Step 'N Tilt Lawn Aerator is very effective at alleviating soil compaction problems. Simply step on the platform to insert aerator tines into the ground and tilt the handle bar back to remove the tines from the ground - it's that effortless and easy! The Step 'N Tilt Lawn Aerator is a true core aerator, not a spike aerator. Core aeration is a proven lawn aeration method recommended by lawn experts and university extension services worldwide. Its highly engineered hollow core aerator tines are extremely effective at extracting soil cores while creating 3.4" deep, 0.79" diameter holes in the ground. The sharpen-able, replaceable, and recyclable carbon steel aerator tines are case-hardened for extra durability. The package includes a soil core removal tool. An additional bonus: The Step 'N Tilt Lawn Aerator also functions as a handtruck.

  • Best manual aerator hands down
Size: Std Length Coring Tines with Container
Best manual aerator, hands down. Packaged very VERY well. Thick plastic on every component within the inner box. Also has an outer box. Good assembly instructions Great quality and thought put into this product Works very well, with low fatigue Would buy again Cores are alittle small, but I guess that has to be the case since it's using your body weight. Tines are welded to tine plate, not removable or interchangeable. Have to buy new plate. 2 tines on each plate ... show more

  • It works and I don’t have to rent the 250 lb gas powered tool anymore.
Size: Std Length Coring Tines with Container
I just used the Step 'N Tilt Core Lawn Aerator Version 4 Kit (3.4 Inch Standard Length Coring Tines with Soil Core Container) on approximately 600 sqft of lawn. Super duper! I started with one set of times and then added the second set. Took about an hour since I had to take a few breaks. You will get a solid upper and lower body workout. I bought the container so I had to stop several times to dump the cores in my dirt pile. Overall very good lawn maintenance product. Now to do my front yard of 500 sqft. Thank you for this practical solution to lawn aeration. ... show more

  • Best manual aerator I've tried so far
Size: Std Length Coring Tines without Container
I've tried a number of manual aerators - everything from spiky shoe bottoms to DIY iron pipes screwed to a board. This one has been the best I've tried so far. Assembly was fairly easy - some parts had to be finessed to go together, anyone with decent mechanical skill should have no issues assembling it. I followed the instructions in only using it on wet turf, so I either used it after a rainfall or running my sprinklers. It was easy to use - wheeled it a bit, lowered it and stepped down on it to fully insert the spikes in the lawn. Occasionally a spike got clogged with mud/debris and the spikes had to be cleared out manually. It seemed to always be the same spikes, which makes me think it was a manufacturing issue rather than issues with what they were picking up. Not a huge issue, but not 5 star performance either. I've got pretty tough turf and the occasional rock in my yard and the spikes dealt with both with no real issues. If a rock didn't move out of the way, I simply moved the aerator a couple of inches and depressed it again. It definitely seemed sturdy when used as directed. I probably would have given this item 5 stars overall, but some of the items came rusty and combined with the occasional clogging made it a 4 star item IMHO. Is it a good value for the price, absolutely! ... show more

  • If your yard has problems this tool should be in your arsenal.
Size: Std Length Coring Tines with Container
Somehow the assembly info didn't end up in the box. So the tube protection sleeves (gotta remove those and toss) confused me because they look like cheap springs. That aside it wasn't complicated to construct. Its operation is fantastic and easy. My soil is somewhat clayish and was pretty damp from rain situation so the core tubes got jammed frequently. The supplied tool for clearing the tubes worked perfectly. Easy to assemble, Easy to use. Does what its designed for. Very useful tool. Furnished my front yard within an hour. ... show more

  • Great design - works perfectly!
Size: Std Length Coring Tines without Container
For minor yard repair or smaller yards - this is the best tool. Worked wonderfully on my properly watered lawn. It did break a poker off but hubby admitted hitting a tree root. Not big deal and I should have also ordered replacements pokers with original order. I highly recommend this product. It's designed well, does the job and has easy clean up. ... show more

  • Great tool. No more trips to hardware store for the big machines, or hiring expensive contractors.
Size: Std Length Coring Tines with Container
Out of the box, the unit was easy to assemble (basic nut-and-bolt construction, 20 minutes with a socket set). Feels very sturdy with all steel parts. After a rain the night before to ensure the soil was adequately loose for aeration, I tested the aerator in a corner area of the backyard. The tines pierced through soil easily and the curvature of the handle and rocking motion pulled out 4 perfect plugs. I quickly did a 50 sq. ft. area to continue the trial run and it only took a minute, doing the suggested spacing of 2-6 inches apart. The curved design quickly allows you to pull up the tines and get into a rhythm while being easy on your body with almost no effort honestly. Front and back lawns are 2,500 sq. ft. combined and when I go back for the full job, I believe I can do it in 2 hours no problem at all. After the trial run, I rinsed off the tines, let dry in the sun and coated with gun oil before storing to prevent rust or corrosion (didn't have WD-40 on hand but it's the same thing). I will be keeping the unit. So glad I don't have to haul those expensive massive machines from Home Depot , or shell out several hundred dollars to landscape contractors anymore, because finally there is an efficient manual machine that makes it worth the time. As is repeated in the instructions many times, the soil conditions are key to proper aeration. ... show more

  • Good for what it is!
Size: Std Length Coring Tines with Container
I got this to help the bald spots in my yard as well as help the height next to the curb. The actual operation of it works well but I think in order to to change the yard height, I'd have to do a LOT of of aeration to make any height difference, even over a year. This is really built well and works as designed but I likely wouldn't buy it again. Edit to review: This has held up well over the summer, very sturdy and well built, however it just doesn't remove enough at a time for my use case. Also, if one of the prongs gets a little dirty on the inside, it keeps getting clogged and it needs to be washed out before you can really use it again. ... show more

  • Well built option
Size: Std Length Coring Tines with Container
This is a good product for small to medium jobs. Aerating manually is a lot of work, but this is a well built option if you are going to do it. The build quality earned it an extra star. I used it for aerating the many spots in my patchy yard before seeding. It did a good job and the lawn really improved. ... show more
