Features

  • ADJUSTABLE WRENCHES AND SCREWDRIVERS ARE REQUIRED FOR ASSEMBLY. Step N Tilt is fast and easy to use. Simply step and tilt. This patented lawn aerator makes core aeration easy and enjoyable for do-it-yourselfers and professional landscapers. The tilting motion is easier on your shoulders and backs. Its larger stepping surface improves operator comfort.
  • Step 'N Tilt is designed for operators between 4-feet and 6-feet 5-inches tall. Recommended minimum operator weight to use one set and two sets of tines are 80lbs and 150lbs, respectively. Please begin by using one set of tines only regardless of your weight. You may use two sets of tines after you have gained enough experience and if you weigh more than 150lbs.
  • Please aerate one day after at least one inch of rain or irrigation. If you have a sprinkler system, each sprinkler zone will need to run for about 60 minutes. In other words, the soil must be moist to a depth of about 4 inches. Question: Why must I wait one day? Answer: Because it takes time for water to be absorbed into the soil, particularly clay soil. For use in areas with grass only; tines may clog if used in bare soil.
  • Step N Tilt is designed for all kinds of soil, including heavy clay soil - make sure the soil is moist but not too wet. If the tines are unable to penetrate the ground and clog, the soil is too dry. The soil is too wet if the tines can penetrate the ground easily but do not produce any soil core please wait one day before aerating again. A soil core remover is included. The aerator tines are case-hardened for extra durability. The tines may be sharpened or replaced when worn.
  • Step 'N Tilt is recommended for aerating small yards or areas not accessible by motorized lawn aerators. It can be used to aerate large yards but will require longer time than a motorized lawn aerator. The tines will create 3.4" deep, 0.79" diameter holes in the ground.
  • This unit comes with an optional soil core container. The soil core container allows you to collect soil cores during lawn aeration and deposit the cores in other areas. Its purpose is to improve the ground unevenness and repair ruts of your yard without killing the grass. U.S. Patent 8714275 & 11147202.

Description

Optional soil core container: The soil core container allows you to collect soil cores during lawn aeration. Its primary purpose is to improve the ground level or drainage of your yard without killing the grass. By collecting soil cores from areas that are high and disposing the soil cores to areas that are low, you will gradually improve the ground level or drainage of your lawn over a period of several aeration seasons. Helpful Hints for Step 'N Tilt Lawn Aerator: Please aerate one day after at least one inch of rain or irrigation. If you have a sprinkler system, each sprinkler zone will need to run for 60-90 minutes. In other words, the soil must be very moist. If the tines clog, the soil may be too dry or too wet for aeration. If the tines are unable to penetrate the ground and clogging, the soil is definitely too dry. The Step 'N Tilt Lawn Aerator is very effective at alleviating soil compaction problems. Simply step on the platform to insert aerator tines into the ground and tilt the handle bar back to remove the tines from the ground - it's that effortless and easy! The Step 'N Tilt Lawn Aerator is a true core aerator, not a spike aerator. Core aeration is a proven lawn aeration method recommended by lawn experts and university extension services worldwide. Its highly engineered hollow core aerator tines are extremely effective at extracting soil cores while creating 3.5" deep, 0.79" diameter holes in the ground. The sharpen- able, replaceable, and recyclable carbon steel aerator tines are case-hardened for extra durability. The package includes a soil core removal tool. An additional bonus: The Step 'N Tilt Lawn Aerator also functions as a handtruck. Some assembly is required. The Step ‘N Tilt Lawn Aerator’s Advantages: 1) Easier on your shoulders and lower back 2) Clog-resistant tines 3) Create up to four holes at a time 4) One size fits all 5) Replaceable aerator tines 6) Larger stepping surface to improve operator comfort

  • I was expecting to hate this but...
I was not expecting much, reviews were hit or miss and there were't any youtube vids showing it in action outside of the manufacturer so I took a gamble. I bought and returned the yard butler previously because it kept clogging and fully expected this would have the same issues. IT WORKS AWESOME!!! For the price, worth every penny. Built very sturdy, I was really surprised how tough it is. Each piece came individually wrapped in plastic, the thick kind not the saran wrap plastic. Well boxed and shipped quick. Key to success: The handle curve has to face away from you, it is counter intuitive but this is how you get the leverage you need. Your soil has to be very wet, I luckily had 2 inches of rain over 3 days and right after went and used it for the first time. The picture is about 5 minutes of use. You can see all the cores and my grass is about 5 inches tall right now so not the easiest to get through. Tip #2 is that you have to use a rolling motion when you push and step on the box. You will want to rock it back and forth forward twice or 3 times to really get it through the soil. Like I said, I have about 5 inches of grass and rolling it back and forward a few times while I stepped on the box and leaned forward, I was able to get a good system working. So far, no clogs yet but as long as the ground is fully saturated, I am not expecting any issues. Probably best to do it right after getting an inch or more of rain, while the top of the surface is still wet to the touch. This is a hidden gem. The negitive reviews I read I now realized was more user error than anything else. This is an honest review and I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this. ... show more

  • Excellent product and customer service!
I don’t often leave product reviews, but this is an excellent product. It works very well in my small yard. I followed the instructions and started with just the 2 tines until I got used to operating it. When I tried using the other 2 tines, I found I preferred the feel of just using the 2 alone, so I went back to that and will keep the extras as replacements when they may be needed. Very sturdy and easy to assemble. I did receive a defective collection box, but called the seller and they IMMEDIATELY sent me a replacement with a shipping confirmation number. The replacement part arrived in two business days. I am VERY pleased with the customer service as well as the aerator. ... show more

  • What you expected for a manual corer
NOTE: Only for small lawns! I have a small lawn and just want to plug core small portions of my lawn. It worked great. Assembly was a bit tedious and the catcher seems loose and flimsy to clip and lock. Other than that, it definitely isn’t the easiest to use. Make sure your lawn is soft and you will have a much easier go with this. ... show more

  • Feels well built, but does not work in heavy clay soil
I like the idea of this thing. It is basically a reverse dolly cart. The metal is thick gauge, the hardware to put it together is a little suspect, but overall it feels really sturdy. I purchased it to try to remove some of the hard clay soil I have so I could back fill with some organic matter to improve the quality of my dirt. It'd probably work great in "normal" lawns. My yard however is heavy with clay and it just gets stuck in the tines. It does not matter how wet or dry the soil is, I've tried 5 different levels of dampness from swamped to just damp and the clay soil just clings to the inside of the tines. I've tried oiling the inside of the tines but it still sticks like clay does and plugs them up. I have to clean the tines after each step otherwise any further holes are really just compacted down into the ground, which is the opposite of what I need. It's unfortunate, the overall construction and idea really has merit, but I guess my soil is just too stubborn. ... show more

  • Oddly satisfying and good exercise
Does its job, but it's a workout! Soil needs to be wet enough, but not too wet, so a bit of experimentation will help you find the sweet spot for your yard. Too dry and you can't drive it down, too wet and it clogs up, not releasing the cores. In my heavy clay soil, it's often hard to drive it down if you weigh less than 150 lbs or so, and all but unusable for someone under 100 lbs. That said, it's been excellent so far as I try to revive the compacted patches of my lawn after years of foot (and paw) traffic. ... show more

  • Too much work and hastle, but it does perform
So I have now used this device for a total of 8hrs over two days with both a dry and damp soil conditions with and without the added catch box. For one, unless your soil is supper soft and supper moist do not think this is easy to do, at 190lb I had to put all my weight and more into this thing for it to go into the soil, and I would say I'm very athletic as well. If your soil is dry forget it, it has to be damp at minimum or else you'll hate yourself. As far as clogging of the spikes, it does happen and it sucks to get it unclogged. Had to use a hammer and flathead screwdriver to get it out and cleaned. This is a design flaw, the tapered edges are good but they need to be more tapered for this not to happen. A more tapered edge would allow more clearence of the dirt between the cillindrical walls and thus would clog less. The catch box does its job, but the latches do not hold the box to the device at all, and thus there is a lot of movement and noise while working. Overall the product is made very well but has some design problems that would make it easier to use. I think the idea is cleaver, but dosent work that well. Unless your lawn is that small that you can't get a company to come out and aerate for you then I can't recommend this. I give it 2 out of 5 stars because the product is made well, and does the job it was designed for, I just don't recommend it past that. ... show more

  • Works as advertised; great instructions on assembly and operation of aerator
I am so glad I found this aerator on the internet. It is made in the U.S. I believe and is very well-made. It was well packaged and delivered in a timely manner. The instructions for assembly and for operation were quite complete and easy to follow. It is very easy to use and just right for my yard. Now, I will not be at the mercy of these lawn companies who want to charge an outrageous amount for aerating the lawn. Great idea. Would buy again. Thank you!!! ... show more
