I recently installed this steel access panel and I am happy with it. The reinforced metal construction feels incredibly sturdy and much more reliable than plastic alternatives. I got this access panel to make accessing the manifold behind our guest bath easier. It worked perfectly. The space I have to work/access to repair/change plumbing is pretty small, so the cover worked perfectly. All I needed was a drywall saw and a couple screws to hold it in place (I didn't use adhesive, but could have). The no-key access is perfect for at home. The panel is in the back of the master closet, so looks aren't that important, but it looks good enough. Easy to use/install. Light on the pocket book (good value). What else could I ask for?

This panel is used for allowing access to a cavity inside a wall or behind a wall. Typically, these are used for gaining access to plumbing (such as a drain clean out or shutoff valve), electrical works, bars of gold, whatever. This access panel, while made of steel, is extremely lightweight (the door is aluminum, helping curb the weight.) There is a simple locking latch to keep the door closed and installation is very simple. Cut a hole the size of the frame (if this isn't a perfect cut, the lip around the frame will hide the actual cut edge.) Set the frame in the hole, add screws from inside into the drywall or wood studs, if available. For added stability and strength, wood pieces could be added around the perimeter. Be sure to check the box when unpacking. Mine arrived with a screw missing that held the locking tab to the lock cylinder. It is also missing a key, but I am confident that one would normally be provided. Since the lock cylinder is approximately 1/4" in diameter, I am not sure how simple it will/would be to replace. This was on the 14" square unit, it is possible a larger hatch would have a more standard sized locking mechanism.

Useful somewhat secure access panel. I say somewhat secure since the key doesn't mean much and you can open it will a screw driver. still it will keep most people honest. It looks nice and will get the job done. It is a bit light so I do not think it will hold up to much abuse, but good for finish work.
