  • Decent RPG
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
Tri-Ace has done a remarkable job! There have been too many games with eye-catching, beautiful graphics and effects but not much of stories such as the latest FF and VP (a huge disappointment!). This game offers gorgeous graphics, likeable characters, interesting adventures in a variety of environments and pleasant music. My only disappointment was that there were no Valkyrie Profile characters showing up in the final end-game dungeon (after finishing the main game) as they have done in the past... (Sincerely hope Tri-Ace will create the next Valkyrie Profile game.) ... show more

  • How it SHOULD BE!
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
I wanted a rpg game kinda like final fantasy but takes me on a adventure. Right from the get go I was invested in the story. Some people say Raymond complains a lot but I don't think so, of your crew and spaceship got blasted outta space you would be mad too lol. I like the graphics on the PS5, very fluid and pretty graphics and it seems like it will be a long time. Can't beat a boss? Grind, lvl up, get new gear etc...it's everything I wanted a RPG to be really. I have to say I was impressed, I like the flow and look of the towns and as far as soundtrack goes final fantasy does have competition. I'm glad this is my first star ocean game, will be keeping a eye out for future titles this to me is easily a 9 out of 10 as far as Japanese rpg goes, I enjoyed this better then ff7 remake and that's saying something! ... show more

  • Good story, good gameplay.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
I really enjoyed this game much more than I expected to. I had only played the original Star Ocean back in the 90s, so I don’t know how the other games measure up. This game had a better story than the first, with royal drama, intrigue, betrayal and the universal threat of a hive mind. I really like the idea of a hive mind that has a splinter or “second personality” that tries to take over. I found myself transfixed by the story until the very end. The game took me about 40 hours to complete with some minor grinding. The gameplay seems chaotic at first, but once I got the hang of it, I was charging into battles and performing lightning quick combos and special attacks in seconds. There are items to reward exploration in the semi-open world areas. The graphics aren’t anything special, but the world is interesting, if a little barren of life. The soundtrack on the other hand, is quite enjoyable. If the next Star Ocean is anything like this, I will definitely play that as well. I picked this up for about $30 and consider it an appropriate price. $60 would be too much to pay, considering the game seems decidedly last gen. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! ... show more

  • This game is pure fun and entertainment
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
This game had me hooked immediately. Really fun game, also really a cool world to explore. Definitely surpassed my expectations as a JRPG fan. Only thing I didn’t like was the NPCs in towns didn’t do much to make them believable… a lot just stood around the same spot no matter when you came back to the town. Besides that the towns themselves are really nice and fun to explore, the combat is addictive and the story gets pretty good about halfway through. ... show more

Great game for the limited budget and time they had. I’m a star ocean fan and I grew up with this series and love this company. Star ocean will always be one of my faves and I hope they continue to make them. Please support this company by buying this game. It’s good!

  • Best Star Ocean game in a long time
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
The media could not be loaded. Really liking this game. The last group of Star Ocean games were not that good, but this game is Star Ocean's come back! Really awesome game. I hope to keep seeing more releases like this one for Star Ocean in the future to come.

  • Definitely a fun game
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
As a fan of the whole series, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.. I haven't finished it yet but the gameplay and the graphics are definitely very nice on PS5 and it has been as good or better than previous games in the series. I'm still waiting to see how the item creation goes, early in the game the costs are pretty steep and I wish it had a better way to target a certain item or remember a recipe but it's still fun. ... show more

  • Not the best star ocean
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
Pros: -gameplay is mostly fun. -The environments are beautiful. -There's plenty of extra stuff to keep you busy. I liked esowa, too. Cons: -not a fan of some of the character designs. But that's just my taste, maybe. -I don't care for the upgrade points system. I felt like there were too many combat skills to have to acquire, upgrade, and load into combos. It probably would have been better if they would have made more choices on the "skill tree" stat boosts instead of combat and passive skills that you have to keep track of. -The crafting system is confusing and unpredictable, especially leveling it up. Previous star oceans have had much more enjoyable crafting. -The script could be better. -The AP system is SO annoying. I understand needing points to do special moves, but in this game running out of AP means you can't swing your sword at all. Whose idea was that? It completely ruins the fun while you stand there waiting for your points to charge, especially when you're fighting a boss you can't blindside or surprise to earn more. So fighting a boss is like swing-swing-swing--wait. -Also, I hoped to explore more worlds but really you just get the one planet and a very small taste of three or four more (think one small zone and one dungeon). Compared to the beginning, once you get to space it feels very rushed and choppy. It feels like square said "this is taking too long. Wrap it up." It was an entertaining playthrough, but I usually try to 100% stuff, and I really just don't feel like playing through all that anymore. ... show more
