We LOVE this cage.... so great for cooking burgers, hot dogs, burritos, steaks..... so many things over a fire. And you just put them in, cook, flip, cook and they stay in place. No burgers falling apart or sticking to the grill, no hot dogs rolling off into the dirt... and it pulls it up off of a dirty grill if you have to use a public grill that you are unable to clean too well. When I get home I spray will some cleaner or degreaser, let it soak a little., Rinse, then pop in the dishwasher. Just make sure you dry it thoroughly before storing, don't want it rusting!!! I wish the handle was longer. However that aside it worked great. I wish there existed a good way to clean these. Not the fault of the cooker tho.

From the grill basket to the end of handle is just over a foot or so, meaning you hand is about a foot from the fire/heat, too close! You'll need to extend the handle with a piece of wood :)

This is my go-to for car camping grilling. I love thaty I can set up the fire circle using rocks or larger logs to allow me to set the unit down over the fire hands free, keeping the handle away from the fire while the flames lick up and tickle that meat. It's easy-peasy open fire cooking. Great for steaks, hot dogs, kielbasa, sausages, you can toast bread in it, and more. Highly recommended! ... show more

    • Okay with modifications
The handle is short. We will be making an extension for it (nice that the handle is wood, so we can just screw in another piece). We'll also have to crimp the so-called "locking" device on the handle, as we lost our burgers into the ashes more than once while flipping, because the thing just slips around. The basket itself is very shallow, so normal sized bratwurst, for example, would not fit into it. You could do kiddie hot dogs, though, or breakfast sausage. We were cooking plant-based burgers that are pretty thin, and they just fit with a little squishing. Won't probably accommodate veggie skewers but would work with fish fillets. Shrimp maybe?? Definitely sliced eggplant, thin toast, stuff like that. We heated burger buns by placing them on top of the basket. For the price it's not a bad campfire gadget, but with some modifications and altered expectations about what can go in it. ... show more

This was more substantial than I was expecting which it really needs to be for campfire cooking and it works well. The easiest way I found to use this was to just put a pile of charcoal in the campfire ring and support it with a few rocks. When you use it in an actual wood campfire remember that cooking does not mean sticking the basket right in the flames - that will spoil the flavor of the food and turn your basket black and make it hard to clean. Campfire cooking should really be done over hot coals pushed off to the side or after you let the fire die down to red glowing natural charcoal - thats where you get the best flavor and things will cook fast without burning them. ... show more
