I make a good amount of cake, but mostly I enjoy eating cake, and don’t typically spend much time artfully decorating them. I like the idea of bringing more visual interest to my cakes without a lot of effort. This 9” Stainless Steel Cake Scraper by Aonagi is a very simple tool. Both sides are the same (one being the inverse of the other); and the whole thing is a bit rough around the edges, but the way I was holding it in the middle of the tool was comfortable. Pictured is a double layered snickerdoodle cake that I baked to try out this tool. I frosted half of it with one side of the scraper, and the other half with the other side (also flipping the tool top to bottom so that I could hold it without getting frosting on myself). I’m not sure what order the photos will post, but the messier half is the bubble side of the comb, and the more defined side is with the comb that has the outward points. I found this a lot harder to use than anticipated, and actually tried it a bunch of times on both sides, adding frosting and starting over again and again, before taking the pictures. I actually think some of my earlier “bubble” attempts were better, but started to feel like we just wanted to finish up and eat the cake! I do see myself continuing to use and perfect my technique with this. I like having two choices in designs. I think the tool could be more refined to have a smoother finish, as it feels a bit industrial. ... show more

I was super happy to get this. It has been a long time since I decorated cakes and my supplies are low. I can’t wait to be able to bake again. I ordered this Scraper to add a new flair to my icing jobs. Sadly, they stainless steel teeth from the combs cut into your hand while in use. A larger hand might not notice, but I’m not a small person. They need to have a silicon cover for the side you hold onto so it doesn’t dig into your hand when in use.
