Not my first time buying this chain

I have used this chain in the past and have had great results. I am a recreational rider and do most of my own maintenance on my bike. This chain is easy to install without special tools, thanks to the Powerlink provided with the chain. All you have to do to install is pull chain together. But, however, if you need to remove it, you will need to have a little more than a pair of needle nose pliers. I made a tool to do it, but there are tools for sale on the net that will remove it with ease. I used an old pair of skinny needle nose pliers modified with a Dremel tool assisted by a large pair of channel locks to make an acceptable removal tool. Off in seconds with my home-brewed method. Easy on and easy off is why I love this chain with Powerlink. This is a high quality product and performs as advertised. I highly recommend it.

Simply a great bike chain.

My bike was in need for a new bike chain even though my old bike chain still worked ok. I decided on this sram chain and I couldn't be happier. First, the installation was easy and clean. I am digging the p-link connector as it made my job much easier to install. I believe it would hold on strongly as well. I did have to take off a couple links off for my Gary Fisher Marlin though and that was easy. Second, it appears to be high quality and very similar in terms of quality to my shimano chain that I am replacing. Lastly, my bike rides real well and shifts really smooth with this chain. I can't really comment about durability as I need more miles and time. However if the chain should give me problems or break in the future, I will update this review. Right now, I do recommend this chain.

hands down the best replacement chain

SRAM makes some of the best components in the industry, so why would they skimp on a chain? Well... they didn't! I use this chain as a replacement on a full suspension MTB that runs a triple front and 8 cog rear cassette. With that set up, I didn't have to remove or purchase extra links to add to the chain for proper length. Other than flawless shifting now with minimal rub on the front derailer, my favorite thing about this chain has to be the master link. To install, just slide the rivets through the end of the other links, put the plate on the rivets, and pull. done! less than 5 seconds to put on and not destroying your fingers like a standard master link does (like the ones that come with KMC chains). Going to be getting another SRAM chain for the road bike next because of how pleased I was with this one.

Great chain, good price

I purchased both this and the 830 model. I thought that the 850 model would have beveled edges and be a slicker-looking chain, but I tell you what, I couldn't tell the difference just looking at them. I had to keep looking at the part number on the box to be able to tell them apart as I was installing them on my two mountain bikes. I haven't put many miles on these chains but they are both very nice, smooth chains. The included master link makes them very easy to install, and with a standard chain breaker (I borrowed a friend's) the process doesn't take long at all. One thing to note, I expected that since this was an 8-speed chain and I was putting it on my 8-speed bike (Gary Fisher Wahoo), I wouldn't have to shorten the chain on my bike. Not true -- I had to take several links out. If you are planning to install this without shortening it, you may be surprised. If I were to do it again, I would just buy two of the 830 model chains and call it a day.

New chain for not much money

The previous chain lasted a couple of years. I check the wear every now and then, and finally decided it was time to replace. I don't use one of those fancy gauges. I first check the play on the large sprocket. If I can lift the chain up more than 1/8" then I measure the distance between 12 links. It should be close to 12". If it's over 12 1/8" then I replace the chain. I like the quick link feature of the SRAM chains. While I still have to use a chain breaker to remove the excess links, once the chain is sized, if I ever need to remove it to clean or do other maintenance, it comes off easily. It works great with the SRAM cassette and crank set too.

Bike chain

Needed a replacement and these are very good chains. It was sent on time and installed in a flash. The results was very rewarding, the bike now works as it should. I replaced the cassette and added new shifting cables while I waited for chain to arrive. Just like new again. I only use these chains because they work very well and the price is always fair on Amazon.

My Go-to chain

This in the chain i use on my personal bikes. Anything from 6-8 speeds. They last a fair amount of time before stretching, they run much better then old style flat linked bike chains. And if you want your old bike to work well again, then you need a new chain. As a bike mechanic, I can tell you that 70% of the time if you tell me "its just not working quite right anymore"... its the chain, they stretch out, even the best ones. Remember, measure your old chains links. 24 links is EXACTLY 12" if its noticeably longer then that (width of a pin), replace.
