The roasted maple neck was chosen for its optimal tone and stability, and a sculpted heel design allows for improved access to the upper frets. Fit and finish as fine as a bass that costs three times as much. Lighter than I expected. The neck is as smooth as silk, great fretwork, too. I've heard that the stock strings on Squiers aren't very good, but these are just fine...I'm waiting for a set of Galli black tapewounds, but roundwound fans won't be disappointed with the ones that come from the factory. Funny, because I've never been a fan of Fender active basses, but I have three Contemporary Active Squiers. Maybe they just work better with flatwounds or tapewounds. ... show more

    • Great If It Wasn't DOA
Coming from a lower-end Yamaha bass that was dead on arrival, I'm a big fan of the feel of this bass. I'd love to say the same about its sound, but after some issues with getting it to make a sound and further issues diagnosing which component was failing, I was able to confirm with a guitar repair specialist it was defective. I'm a little upset with this only because a tag that the guitar came with said it was inspected for quality control in May of 2023, a little over a year ago. Was it really too much to ask for an up-to-date check just to make sure it even works? Given this is the second guitar in a row that I've gotten with hardware issues off the bat, I would recommend shopping in-store. ... show more

Had to send it back…one of the knobs was broken and you could hear something loose inside. Only gave it 3 stars because it was a nice looking bass.
